Things NOT To Do in Costa Rica - Part 1

Exotic Costa Rica is known for its lush jungles, cool creatures and some of the finest beaches in the world. However beware of these 20 things NOT to do in Costa Rica.

1. Don't Feed the Monkeys
The adorable monkeys are a big hit with tourists, but feeding them diminishes their self-reliant survival instincts. They get lazy and don't get the exercise they need can become rather aggressive... Oh yeh and it's also against the law!

2. Don't Let Your Snake Guard Down
There are 22 venomous species of snake slithering around the country! In fact, it is estimated that there are two deadly snakes per hectare there!

3. Don't Forget to Shake Out Your Shoes
We're really not trying to scare you away, just be aware that the world's most toxic spider makes its home here and might be lurking, say... in your shoe! The Brazilian wandering spider is particularly prevalent in Corcovado National Park, and is a nightmare for arachnophobics.

4. Don't Stay at an International Chain Resort
Costa Rica is full of family-run B&Bs, sustainable eco-lodges and intimate guesthouses that often have more character and charm than the familiar chains do, and will give you a more authentic experience on your vacation.

5. Don't Expect Great Coffee!
Yes, Costa Rica grows some of the richest, boldest, most coveted coffee beans in the world. (reverb) However, most of the crop is for export, so the local cups of joe aren't necessarily homegrown!

8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]

The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.

After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

7 Unexpected Things In Costa Rica

This video is about things we didn’t know about or expect when we planned our trip to Costa Rica. There are always surprises when you go to new countries so we’d like to share unexpected things with you!

Save stress and time and DOWNLOAD THE ULTIMATE COSTA RICA 2-WEEK TRAVEL Planner:
On AMAZON:
Or
WEBSITE:

Our unexpected things included:
It was more expensive than we expected., Costa Rica is still considered a third-world country, which means that the poor far outnumber the middle class so we expected things like accommodations and car rentals to be much cheaper. However, be prepared to pay North American prices for these things. There are budget options for accommodations like hostels and cheaper hotels but if you’re not looking to travel on a budget, it isn’t that cheap. Eating out at local sodas (local restaurants) is inexpensive costing only $4-$7 a meal and the food is so delicious!

It takes a lot longer to get places than we expected. The distances are quite short as Costa Rica is a small country but roads are usually windy, slower and some are unpaved and single lane. It took us often twice the time we expected to get anywhere. We also got lost using the wrong App so when you’re there make sure you use WAZE.

Parking Security - something you will pay for when visiting popular beaches and national parks. A lot attendants will charge you to watch over your car while you are away. Always have some cash on hand for this and the cost is only a couple hundred colones.

If you are looking for decaf Coffee, you will have a hard time. Costa Rica proudly grows their own coffee beans and it is a major export. I think decaf is thought as inferior coffee so they don’t have much of it around.

Scorpions glow at night. This was such a fun find for us! They glow blue-green under a black light from a coating in their exoskeleton. Plus scorpions in Costa Rica are NOT deadly.

Night walks are a fun activity to do as you learn a lot about the animals in Costa Rica. The rainforest really comes alive at night too!

Airport Departure Tax is not usually covered on your airline ticket and you will have to pay it at a special counter at the airport before checking in for your flight. Beware of scammers trying to charge you and double-check your ticket just to make sure it isn’t already included. The cost was $29 US per person.

We hope these insights into our unexpected things will help you in your trip planning to this truly amazing country!
