15 hour layover in Addis Ababa
On a recent trip from Singapore to Lebanon with Ethiopian Airlines, I had a 15 hour layover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I got a hotel (Beer Garden Inn) compliments of Ethiopian Air.
I wanted to use my time to see as much of the city as I could, so I went on a 24 km hike through the city and into the mountains. On the way, I saw:

Ethiopian Airlines 24 HOUR LAYOVER - Cape to Cairo
Ethiopian Airlines provided us “hotel” accomodation our a 24 for layover from Cape to Cairo. A 24 hour layover is bitter sweet. You get a bed to sleep in to break the journey but you can get cabin fever as you’re not allowed out of the hotel. In Addis Ababa this might have been a good thing but I would have preferred to go and see the heart of Africa.
The Addis Ababa Airport, Bole Airport, honestly just looks like any other airport.
Ethiopia has a fascinating history, the best coffee and you can really feel the spirit of Africa.
I wouldn’t say the 24 Hour layover with Ethiopian Airlines was anything special but it was a first and therefore an unforgettable memory.
I'm always on the lookout for something interesting and off the beaten track. Too many times, there's no camera or anything to record with. But the beauty of this is to just enjoy the moment. The beauty of recording these days is to be able to share it with the world and anybody who is interested or stands to benefit in some way.
I also write my own music. Not every video will have my music on it but I try to find something in my library to fit the video I'm doing.

Today I’m flying on Africa’s largest airline for the very first time.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates an 141 aircraft modern fleet throughout
a vast international network.
Dubai is one of their busiest route and allows many African expats and visitors in the UAE to comfortably and affordably fly in and out.
I’m flying on one of their 4 B777-300ER’s that’s reserved for the highest density routes.
And I promise you that there are some interesting things to see, such as a thrust reverser malfunction!

How does the Ethiopian Airlines FREE TRANSIT HOTEL in Addis Ababa work? | Honeymoon VLOG 7
It wasn't very clear to us before our trip how this Ethiopian Airlines free transit hotel business was going to work out for us from Cape Town - Addis Ababa - Seychelles so I wanted to share how it exactly works from start to end including the hotel voucher. Open this up to learn more ↓
✈️TRAVEL HACKING
If you're travelling through Africa, Ethiopian Airlines is a very good option especially if you're with Star Alliance and using your points. Often times, you'll run into issues with making connecting flights through Addis Ababa. In our case, we arrived in Addis really late from Cape Town and to connect with our flight to Seychelles meant we had to stay overnight. Luckily, Ethiopian Airlines offers a complimentary transit hotel if your layover is 8 to 24 hours and between two Ethiopian Airlines international flights..
????The rules:
- You must be connecting through to an international flight on Ethiopian Airlines
- The long layover overnight must be the result of not having a choice for anything else (as in there are no options to fly out on the same day)
- Your passport must be eligible for a transit visa on arrival (most passports seem to be fine although there's no official list)
???? Here's what you need to know that nobody tells you about:
1️⃣ You CANNOT remove your bags during the transit so pack accordingly. This was not made clear in other guides I've read.
2️⃣You do not need to go to the transfer office when you land. Head straight out and go to the hotel transfer desk that is right outside the luggage hall in the arrivals area.
3️⃣Overnight in Ethiopia means that another country you fly to may immediately ask for Yellow Fever documentation. It is recommended that you have this ready.

On my travels I like to connect with the local people. Usually I do this via Couchsurfing, either just by meeting up with people to explore together or by actually staying at their place. I also wander aimlessly around in places talking to random people.
I do host a lot of people in my place in Oslo, maybe someday it will be you.
One of my biggest passion in life is food. And when cooking and eating together with nice people it`s the best. I make some videos together with some of my guests, these are really fun to make and I also learn to make new dishes. Maybe you can come cook with me?
Another thing I try to is enlighten people about the environment, especially the plastic problem we have all over the world. In almost every country I go to there is garbage all over. I film it and put it in some videos here and there. As a tip for you, try to pick up one piece of plastic everyday, and of course, never throw any in the first place.

In this episode, we are making the best of our 12 hours layover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We'll hire a full day driver for $20 to take us to see the second holiest and highest ranking Cathedral of Holy Trinity, also the site tombs of Emperor Haile Selassie I. We'll also visit Ethnological Museum inside the Addis Ababa University and the Ethiopian National Museum to see the nation's artistic treasures and world's most famous early hominids, Lucy the grandmother to all humanity. Atter a the full meal the Capitan had deem down the light and we got some rest like maximum 2 hours, and now we are almost arriving. The most amazing view from the airplane when you are on the air is that you are flying during the sun said or sun rise, it just like where can you get the best view more than that?
If you never flight to Ethiopia or catch connecting flight from this city before lets me show you how amazing it look from the sky, this country also know as the land of origins, just the one of their story fact are the coffee and the first human bone that they found here Lucy, you can google it and just search to is Lucy, and yes the coffe birth place too and there are many more to discover here. Anyway, we are now arriving to Ethiopia, the Capital city Addis Ababa.
As soon as we arrive we only have a quick layover in Ethiopia business class lounge, so it was too quick for me to firm for you guys, but i did once review in my first ever video on this channel last year. Anyway, is almost time to catch another flight to the neighbor country. Djibouti.
