Tour Of St. Martin (St. Maarten) / Exploring The Island On Your Own
We recently took a trip to St. Martin it was one of the stops on our Princess Cruise. This country is known for its beautiful unique beaches and has some great shopping areas. St. Martin or St. Maarten, is divided in half with one side being the Dutch side and the other side being the French side. If your cruise port is in Philipsburg, it is located on the Dutch side. We rented a Jeep for the day and toured both sides of the island. We want to give you a look at both St. Martin and St. Maarten to show you what there is to do here, some of our recommendations, and the overall vibe of the island and residents. If you are planning a trip to Saint Martin, or Sint Maarten, then you need to watch this video. There are things you definitely don't want to miss out on and we have a few to show you.

Saint Martin (French: Saint-Martin; Dutch: Sint Maarten) is an island in the northeast Caribbean Sea, approximately 300 km (190 mi) east of Puerto Rico. ???????? What to do in St. Maarten! - Philipsburg Cruise Port Tour
St. Maarten is known as the friendly island. Today we are at the Philipsburg St. Maarten cruise port and will tell you everything you need to know about the port. We are going to review the port atmosphere, what is near by and how you can prepare for your day in St. Maarten.
Philipsburg St. Maarten has two docks. They are able to accommodate the largest ships at sea, like Royal Caribbean's Oasis class. If both piers are full it would get pretty busy at the cruise port. When stopped at St. Maarten we were the only cruise ship there and we were not at full capacity so it was not pretty quiet.
The name of the St. Maarten Philipsburg cruise port is Harbour Point Village. The atmosphere is really about shopping. There are lots of shops and a little market area. You have all your typical cruise port shops like Diamonds international. There were lots of souvenir shops that were locally owned and had a good variety of gifts. St. Maarten what to do is a question we got asked a lot. As the port area is mainly shopping we recommend heading into town if you are looking for a restaurant or beaches. The water taxi is only $7 which will get you into town and back.

Car rental - We got a great rate booking thru the local Hertz website. Liability insurance is included in their prices (USD) and service was great. Their cars are in good shape, some may not be brand new but we did not have any issues.

Join me on my 10 day trip to the beautiful and friendly island of Sint Maarten/St Martin. This island is shared between France and the Netherlands and its located in the Eastern Caribbean. It's a very small island that you can drive around in a hour without traffic. So I highly suggest renting a car while you are here! It boasts top notch beaches,. beach clubs and world class nightlife. I personally think during the peak season the nightlife is the best in the Caribbean! The dutch side is where most of the tourists stay and play! It has some nice beaches and it's where most of the nightlife takes place. But the French Side has in my opinion the best restaurants and cuisine between the two. But don't take my word for it, book a trip and see for yourself!
