Very busy Saturday at Madeira, everyone leaving the island after Christmas and New Year's Eve. Regular visitors but with extra flights, highlight to the TAP A330, probably the last special flight with them, next one's could be on Easter. Lot's of A320's and 737's and the Swiftair cargo ATR.
I went to the runway 05 early, I was able to catch the sun rising at the back of the Desertas island, really special!

Got 3 Boeing's 737, 2 from Smartwings and another from Norwegian, 2 A320-214 from Easyjet and Edelweiss, and the small ATR42-300 freighter from Swiftair

Great morning at Madeira Airport, traffic is increasing as the borders are opening, with much more traffic schedule from 1st of July.
Today we got gusty winds, starting with the morning Binter flight from Porto Santo with the ATR 72-500, then the SATA Dash 8-400 to take Marítimo Football team to Faro, followed with the daily flight from Lisbon with the TAP Embraer 190LR, and lastly the Netjets Cessna 560XLS Citation, from Lisbon.
The wind was quite high, with gusts up to 29 knots!

19 DIFFICULT LANDINGS AT MADEIRA AIRPORT INC. 3 GO AROUND
Windy day at Madeira Airport LPMA, also known as Cristiano Ronaldo Airport. I went in the morning to the airport just in time to watch 2 Easyjet Airbus's go around's, with successful landings on the second approach. On the afternoon was Thomas Cook with a go-around.
The wind was variable and sometimes the gusts were outside the airport limits, causing the go-around of the 3 planes.
We had the visit of 2 ATR, 12 Airbus and 5 Boeing planes, including a A320 NEO from TAP Air Portugal.

I made a mix of closeups and open scenes in a great mix of 737's and A320's, with the small ATR in the middle.
Saturday 4th of January was one of the busiest days in Madeira Airport because everyone was leaving Madeira after the New Year Holidays

One of the last mornings rushes at Madeira, with many airlines starting to pick up tourists for repatriation. The video starts with the Portuguese Air Force C-295 on a medical evacuation from the near Porto Santo Island.
In the middle of the many Airbus's A32X and B737's, we got an ATR 72-500F and a Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign.
I still have some footage to share from this same day, mostly the takeoffs, and 2 more days of videos to edit.
The airport is now almost empty, just the cargo plane every day and some public service flights from TAP (3 a week)
Let's hope for better days so we can go out and make what we love; spotting!

Windy afternoon in Madeira. I headed to the airport to take some footage of the JET2 rush (5 planes in a row) and found some windy conditions. When the wind was stronger, with gusts around 30knots, the JET2 Boeing 737-800 - G-GDFY - inbound from Birmingham was receiving information about out of limits wind, but tried anyway the approach, until the last turn, when the ATC confirmed again the wind of limits, aborting the landing and going around.
The plane went to Funor and waiting for clearance for lading. The wind came down just a few minutes after, with a successful second approach, despite some turbulence, still landing ahead of time!

The wind was blowing in Madeira in the morning of the 17-02-2020. Pilots were facing crosswinds coming from North, especially at the 180 degrees turn at Rosário, where they face crosswinds.
At touchdown zone the wind was fine, making the touchdown to be smoother than the approach!
Nice selection of Airbus and Boeings, including a 757-200, and also one Cessna Citation Excel 560XL

BUSY Day Plane Spotting at MADEIRA AIRPORT - The 9th MOST DANGEROUS AIRPORT in the WORLD
Today's video is from my recent visit to the beautiful Portuguese island of Madeira, in the shape of a forty-four minute compilation of all the action seen on a busy Monday during the summer season, at the worlds' ninth most dangerous airport.
Madeira is famed for its difficult visual approach to runway 05 to avoid the high terrain located next to the airport. This high terrain presents many challenges such as wind shear and changing weather. During my visit, in about an hour the weather changed from sunny skies to a heavy downpour from nowhere. Departures also aren't exempt from the dangers of this airport, with them required to make a very early right turn after departure to avoid the terrain ahead.
I spent around 4 hours spotting at Funchal from this spot located parallel to the runway up a public path. In this video you can expect to see a multitude of Boeing 757's from TUI and Jet2, TAP A320 & A321 NEO's, and a Portuguese Air Force CASA C295MPA on a Medevac flight, to name just a few.

TAP AIRBUS A320 TAKEOFF FROM ABOVE at Madeira Airport 01.02.2020
During my compilation of Landings from above - - I was able to catch the TAP Air Portugal Airbus A320-214 CS-TNW taking off on runway 05 after asking the ATC for permission (RW23 in use at the time).
The flight TP1696 to Lisbon took off from runway 05 and passed just in front of my spot, 1000 feet higher than the runway, being able to watch the landing gear retracting!
