In today's video, I share my honest thoughts with you about North Korea after 4 years since my visit... I didn't mention in the video that I am one of the very last Americans to step foot in the country because a few months after I left, all Americans were banned from visiting (which is still in effect today).

I often think about North Korea and I wanted to take this time to re-tell my story, share my thoughts, and also get some feedback from you. What are your opinions about North Korea? Would you ever visit North Korea?

10 Poorest Countries in the World 2020

GDP per capita is an indicator used to measure the economic performance of countries relative to their population. It is calculated by dividing the Gross Domestic Product of a certain country by the number of residents. It gives us some insight into the living standards in that particular country.

Economic growth rate, on the other hand, measures the changes in the GDP. Another useful indicator is the unemployment rate, which indicates the percentage of the labor force that is currently out of a job. The labor force only includes people who are of legal working age and able to work.

Most Dangerous Countries in the World 2022

Most Dangerous Countries in the World

Is Syria The World's Most Dangerous Country?
With a score of 3.631, Afghanistan is the most dangerous country in the world. Afghanistan has remained in this position from 2020 to 2021. In addition, Afghanistan has the highest number of deaths from war and terrorism of any other country in the world. Yemen moved down several positions to the second-most dangerous country. According to the UN, Yemen has the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, where over five years of ongoing conflict has resulted in 4.3 million people leaving their homes and 14 million people at risk of starvation and outbreaks of deadly diseases. About 80% of the Yemen population (24 million people) is in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.

Syria is the world’s third-most dangerous country. The Syrian civil war has plagued the country since March 2011 and has been the second-deadliest war of the 21st century. As of March 2019, 5.7 million people have fled Syria, and over 6 million have been displaced internally. South Sudan followed with a score of 3.363. South Sudan has ongoing conflict, civil unrest, and widespread violent crime, including robberies, assaults, carjacking, and kidnappings. Armed conflict exists mostly between the government and opposition groups, with little to no rule of law or order outside the country’s capital of Juba.

Iraq has moved up two positions from third to fifth in the most dangerous countries. Iraq continues to have both internal and external conflicts, including likely terrorist attacks. ISIS continues to capture and kill civilians and Iraqi armed forces. Other human rights violations, including violations of freedom of assembly and women’s rights, have persisted. U.S. citizens visiting Iraq are at particularly high risk for violence and kidnapping and target Anti-U.S. sectarian militias throughout Iraq.

The other countries with a “very low” state of peace, in order, are Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya, the Central African Republic, Russia, Sudan, Venezuela, and North Korea. In addition to the most dangerous countries in the world, specific countries are the most dangerous for women. If you're looking to travel somewhere new, look at the safest countries in the world.

Youngest Person to visit Every Country - Indy Nelson

In the transition from college, it is not uncommon for graduates to spend time traveling abroad. Rather than a typical backpacking trip, I challenged myself to visit every country. It was ambitious, so out of the box, so ludicrous, so I attempted it, and I accomplished it. After seventeen months, I entered my final country, Yemen, breaking the world records for the youngest at 24 and fastest in 539 days to visit 197 countries.

Growing up, I traveled abroad on a number of occasions. It wasn’t until taking my first overseas trip without my parents that the travel bug set in. This was during winter break of senior year when I and my Delta Upsilon Fraternity Big Brother Kevin Fulgham traveled to Greece to volunteer at a camp for Syrian refugees. The exhilaration of that trip left me inspired. From there, I signed up for a very untraditional spring break - one to North Korea. It was during this trip that I would start to think about visiting every country in the world. After a bit of research, I learned of the current record holder for youngest who was only two years older than I was at the time. This proved that it was possible to visit every country at such a young age’ however, at this point I had only visited 19 countries, so I decided on the lofty goal of setting a milestone of 100 countries, and if reached, would then continue on to visit the rest of the world.

During the journey, I had many interesting - and sometimes dangerous - experiences. In addition to beautiful tourist destinations, I also visited those ravaged by conflict and war, such as the front lines in Iraq. It’s exciting to go into the unknown and not know what was going to happen each day. The environment was fast-paced and intense, constantly analyzing to determine the root cause of given problems. The best way to learn how to solve the most difficult of situations is to be exposed to them - especially those that you can’t even fathom. Handling real-world situations on a daily basis helped strengthen a knowledge base of techniques on how to work through complex problems, which was the most valuable aspect of this post-graduate experience.

Designation of Houthis as a Terrorist Organisation Webinar

On November 16, a report in the Foreign Policy disclosed the Trump administration plans to designate the Iran-backed Houthi militia a terrorist organization as part of its anti-Iran strategy. The move that is reported to come as a response to direct requests from Saudi Arabia and the UAE will have implications for the future trajectory of the war in Yemen, and international humanitarian and diplomatic efforts. The move also needs scrutiny in terms of internal, regional, and global dynamics.

President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in on January 20. He had earlier penned an article with the name: “Why America Must Lead Again: Rescuing U.S. Foreign Policy After Trump” in Foreign Affairs. In the article, Biden openly discusses five practical elements of his strategy for the Middle East. Those are:

Actively engaging Iran to make it abide by articles of the nuclear deal and the US re-accession to JPCOA,
Sustaining an ironclad commitment to Israel’s security,
Bringing back the vast majority of the US troops home from the wars in Afghanistan and the Middle East,
Narrowly defining the US mission as defeating al Qaeda and the Islamic State (or ISIS), and finally,
Ending the US support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

Against this backdrop, Beyond the Horizon International Strategic Studies Group will host a discussion on the implications of designating the Iran-backed Houthis a terrorist organization. The event will include a discussion on the internal dynamics of war, and the repercussions of such a move to US, regional and international efforts to restore peace in Yemen. What options stand in front of the President-elect Joe Biden will be also touched upon.

The panel will feature General (ret.) Joseph Votel, the former Commander of the U.S. Central Command and author of the article, “Political support, not terrorist designation, is key to moving forward in Yemen;” Baraa Shiban, Yemeni researcher, human rights activist and author of “Why Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement should be designated as a terrorist group;” R.David Harden, managing director of the Georgetown Strategy Group and the author of the article, “Devil’s bargain: Sacrificing Yemen for a Saudi-Israeli peace deal.”

How much does it cost to travel to every country in the world on one trip? – Indy Nelson Interview

You may think you’ve met or heard of every type of traveler out there, but you have NEVER met a traveler like Indy Nelson.

Having just graduated from UC Berkeley, he traveled to every country in the world for the thrill of being able to plan out every part of the trip – including routes, visas, accommodations, and even booking 100 plane tickets BEFORE the trip even started – leaving little room for error!

When Indy Nelson finished his journey, he was the youngest (24 years old) and fastest to visit every country in the world (539 days). Want to know how much it would cost you to see every country in the world on one continuous trip? Because Indy kept detailed notes on how much he spent in those 539 days and shares with us the cost!

Other unique things you’ll hear in the Indy Nelson interview:

- The four countries he was detained in for being a suspected spy – including the eight hours of interrogation in a disputed territory in Georgia by the Russians

- Of the 197 airlines he has flown on (a record), which was the best

- Why Central Asia is one of his favorite regions

- How it took 100 hours of research and paper work so that he could spend 25 minutes in Democratic Republic of Congo

- Why he spent three weeks in Cambodia, when he only allotted 36 hours for every country (And why it was his favorite country)

- How long it took him to pay off his trip cost after maxing out several credit cards

- How his travels have helped him in job interviews

- How he was able to be on the front line in war zones, including up close and personal with ISIS

DID YOU KNOW...
- 200 people (approximately) have visited every country in the world.
- 565 people have made it to outer space.

Think about that.

Let that sink in.

Over the past several years, there has been a growth in the extreme travel category, defined as those who are traveling to every country in the world (otherwise known as Country Counters).

With that movement, there is an on-going discussion about how many countries are actually in the world. It's absolutely fascinating to hear how people are carving out the world in this challenge to see it all.

In this FREE virtual meetup of The Nomadic Network, we will hear from Ric Gazarian, who is on a quest to travel to every country in the world. So far, he himself has made it to 142: globalgaz.com/where-ive-been/

Some points Ric will discuss with us:
- How many countries are there in the world?
- What is a country?
- What counts as visiting a country?
- Why should you visit every country in the world?
- Who is traveling to every country in the world?
- What does it take to be an extreme traveler?
- How to get started?
- How to prepare?

You may think you know what a country is, but I assure you, Ric has knowledge that will blow your mind.

As Ric travels, he shares must-see places, unique experiences, and off the beaten path locations through his stunning photography and articles on his blog, globalgaz.com.
