SUMMARY:
- Canadians are famous for saying sorry all the time, even when the other person is clearly in the wrong.
- Approximately 90% of Canada's land area is uninhabited. Even though it’s bigger than the US, it has only 11% of America's population!
- It's illegal for polar bears in Canada to break into houses and steal food. So, if you see one rummaging around in your fridge - call the cops!
- Canada received its own flag in 1965, almost 100 years after it became a separate country in 1867!
- One area in the Hudson Bay region has less gravity than any other region on the planet. So, if you want to jump higher and weigh less, that's the place to be!
- How about this one: Santa Claus is Canadian. That's what Canada's Immigration Minister announced in 2012.
- In 1930, Canada's hockey team did so well that they were put straight through to the final game.
- Ottawa, the capital of Canada, isn't the largest city in the country. With a population of about 1 million people, it comes second to Toronto, the capital of the Ontario province.
- In a 2018 Happiness Report, Canada was ranked #7. I mean, even despite all that cold?
- About 10% of Canadians are either vegetarians or vegans. That means 2.3 million vegetarians and 850,000 vegans. Most of these people are under 35.
- The capital city of Canada, Ottawa, is at the top of the list of the world's coldest capitals.
- The lowest ever recorded temperature in Canada was -81.4 degrees F (-63 degrees C)!
- While driving in northwest Canada, be prepared to see license plates shaped like a polar bear!
- Wood Buffalo National Park, created in 1922 to protect the largest herd of roaming Wood Bison in the world, is larger than Switzerland.
- One of the most popular dishes in Canada is poutine. Crispy fries covered with cheese curds and rich gravy.
- Canadians are some of the friendliest people in the world. You probably can’t find a rude Canadian even if you try really hard!
- Lots of Canadians speak French as their first language. And Montreal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world! After Paris, of course.

8. Politics
While most Americans don't trust the government, Canadians actually trust their government and most are happy with how it works.

10. A bag of milk
Some places in Canada sell milk in bags, although other countries in Europe, Asia, and South America do this also, in the US it would be considered odd.

11. Patriots
Canadians are proud of the country they live in, but Americans tend to be prouder of the state they live in rather than the country as a whole.

12. Choices
Canada has 5 main political party's to choose from. None of these parties is extreme and all fall either left or right of center. America has more of a coin flip situation where you have left or right, or red or blue.

Most Canadians know about the 1812 war and will tell you how America failed to invade Canada. Most Americans don't know anything about this war.

USA vs. Canada: 10 Tourist Differences | Exploring North America's Contrasts

As a tourist, it's important to be aware of the distinct differences you may encounter when traveling between the United States and Canada. Let's dive into ten notable differences that will enhance your understanding of these two diverse destinations.

Firstly, you'll encounter variations in measurement systems. While the United States uses the Imperial system with miles, pounds, and Fahrenheit, Canada primarily utilizes the Metric system with kilometers, kilograms, and Celsius. It's important to familiarize yourself with these different units to navigate effectively during your travels.

Another key difference lies in currency. The United States uses the US Dollar, while Canada has its own currency, the Canadian Dollar (CAD). It's essential to exchange your currency accordingly and be mindful of exchange rates.

Spelling and vocabulary also differ between the two countries. Canadian English follows British English conventions, so you may notice variations in spelling (such as colour vs. color) and vocabulary (like washroom vs. restroom). Embrace these linguistic nuances as part of the cultural charm.

The healthcare systems in the United States and Canada also exhibit distinctive features. In the United States, healthcare is predominantly private, with individuals responsible for their insurance coverage. In contrast, Canada has a publicly funded universal healthcare system, ensuring basic medical coverage for its residents. It's essential to understand the healthcare infrastructure and plan accordingly during your visit.

Sales taxes also vary between the two countries. In the United States, sales tax is typically added at the cash register, whereas in Canada, it is often included in the displayed price. Familiarize yourself with the local tax regulations to avoid surprises during your shopping adventures.

Driving differences are also worth noting. While both countries drive on the right side of the road, you'll encounter variations in road signs and speed limits. Canada uses metric measurements, so be prepared to adjust to kilometers instead of miles.

Both the United States and Canada boast stunning national parks, but each offers its own unique gems. From the majestic Grand Canyon in the US to Canada's breathtaking Banff National Park, prepare to be captivated by the natural wonders on both sides of the border.

Cultural diversity is another aspect that sets these countries apart. While both embrace multicultural societies, each has its own distinct cultural tapestry. Explore the vibrant festivals, savor diverse cuisines, and immerse yourself in the local traditions to truly experience the rich cultural fabric of each destination.

Sports passion is deeply ingrained in the culture of both countries, but the focus differs. The United States is passionate about sports like American football, baseball, and basketball. In contrast, Canada embraces ice hockey as a national obsession. Immerse yourself in the local sports culture and catch a game to witness the enthusiasm firsthand.

In conclusion, whether you're exploring the iconic landmarks of the United States or embracing the warm hospitality of Canada, understanding these ten notable differences will enrich your travel experience.
