11 Things You Should Avoid Doing on the Plane

When you board an airplane, you expect a pleasant flight with as much comfort as you could get. But your comfort — and safety too, for that matter, — heavily depends on your friendly flight attendants.
Of course, they won’t say anything, but there are things they frown upon — and one that they just loathe. But I’m getting ahead of myself. So, if you really want a nice journey, you should keep in mind not to do those things that earn you the wrath of the flight attendants.

SUMMARY
- When there’s a line of passengers waiting to use the bathroom while everyone else is looking for their seats, delays are guaranteed.
- So when you take too much carry-on with you, two unpleasant things happen at once: one, you make other people wait while you put all your stuff up there, and two, those people who’ve been waiting for you can’t put their own bags into the bins because you’ve hogged them.
- Even pleasant smells can get on your nerves when there’s just too much of them. That perfumed piece of handmade soap you carry on with you has a wonderful aroma, but only for the first few minutes.
- When a flight attendant approaches you to ask a question, it’s polite to take off your headphones and pay them your full attention.
- Flight attendants confess that one of the most frustrating things is when passengers start trying to persuade them to change their seat assignments. The thing is, they simply can’t do that.
- When taking off, taxiing, and landing, as well as during turbulence, you should stay seated and fasten your belt in case anything happens.
- If you insistently press the call button for no good reason, chances are you’ll be asked to stop doing that — or even ignored completely.
- When you ask a flight attendant what they have, you make other passengers wait longer and get edgy — consider this when you take your time ordering your food and drinks.
- One of the downsides of working as a flight attendant is that you only get paid for the hours of actual flight. All the work you do while on land is free.
- Safety presentations are really similar on most airlines, but it’s still worth it to refresh them in your memory before the flight.
- It’s absolutely not fine to poke or grab a flight attendant for any reason, just like any other person. Some attendants say, though, that there are people who find it okay to touch them by the knee or ankle when they pass by.

Secrets Only Flight Attendants Know

When we have to take a flight, we usually just sit down and let us go. However, there are a lot of interesting things that will help us to have a nicer trip. Here're 10 facts only flight attendants know.

1) The Big Brother
You don't know the crew, but the may know a lot about you by clicking a button. The use an app called Link to know all your previous reservations or likes. This is very useful if you ask for an upgrade during the boarding. Then, they'll be able to attend you more efficiently.

2) International flights
In these flights it's impossible your flight is late because of the crew members was late or didn't show up. In these cases, they always have reserves who are waiting in the lounge to replace the other college if he couldn't arrive on time. So if you're flight is late, at least you know it's not because of the crew.

3) Don't go to the bathroom before takeoff
If there's a delay in the take off, just check the lights of the lavatory, is it occupied? The pilot can't start the flight until everybody is seated. So next time you have to use the toilet, just wait until the plane is in the air.

4) The service
If you want a great service choose your seat on the back of the plane. Flight attendants usually avoid most of the calls from the front seats because when they come back a lot of people will ask them things in their way back. So, definitely this is the best area.

5) Hygiene inside the plane
This is no secret at all. We all know that they don't clean the plane as if it was their homes. They just take out the papers and things that are on the surface and wipe with the same rag the whole plane. But, well, the dirtiest areas are the tray tables (yes, where we eat), the seats, and of course, the lavatory.

6) Share the flight with a non-dead
Here's the thing, the flight attendants are not allowed to call time of death. So, if someone dies on the plane, they would try to change him to another seat, or first class, or if the plane is full, they'll just cover him with a blanket and leave him in his seat. So, nice company, isn't it?

7) Drinking on the plane
Forget about trying to save some money buying your own drinks at the airport shop to drink them inside the plane. The won't allow it. It's not because the want to charge you for the drinks, it's because if you buy them on the plane, they can know how much alcohol you're having and avoid problems...or that's what they say.

8) Forget the plane water
Just, think about it, do you trust they clean the pipes or the pots as they should? Have you ever seen a flight assistant or pilot bringing their own thermos bottle? I'm sure they answers are no and yes. So, don't take risks, and remain faithful to you bottled water.

9) You can't open a door mid-flight
Were you afraid someone tried to open the cabin door last time you were on a plane? Don't worry anymore! it is simply impossible to open a plane door during a flight because cabin pressure won’t allow it. “At a typical cruising altitude, up to eight pounds of pressure are pushing against every square inch of interior fuselage. That’s over 1,100 pounds against each square foot of door.” says a pilot.

10) The shades
We all close the shades of the plane when we want to have a nap or the sun is too annoying. However, flight attendants don't really like it because in case of emergency they need to see the outside in order to check all the factors. They won't say anything though, because this happens only in case of emergencies but it always good to know.

Passengers Survived the Miracle on the Hudson: Things You Might Not Know

Ten years ago, the world of aviation was flabbergasted by an event that was later named the Miracle on the Hudson. That day, two airline pilots had to use the only runway they could safely reach for an emergency landing - the narrow expanse of the Hudson River in New York City.

Besides the two pilots, there were 150 passengers and three cabin crew members on board the plane. It's shocking how fast something so life-altering and scary can happen. One moment the pilots fill their jet with fuel, and the plane takes off, and two minutes later, it loses all the engine power and is about to drop out of the sky. How could such a critical situation not take any human lives? Let's figure it out.

US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River New York, USA on 15 January 2009: By Greg L - originally posted to Flickr as Plane crash into Hudson River, CC BY 2.0
Animation is created by Bright Side.

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- On January 15, 2009, US Airways flight 1549 was a routine flight from La Guardia Airport in New York to Charlotte Douglas Airportin North Carolina.
- All the equipment worked without a flaw, and the weather was great, with 10-mile (16 km) visibility that provided the cockpit crew with a breathtaking view of the Hudson.
- At 3:27 PM, with the plane moving at 316 ft (96 m) per second, captain Sullenberger noticed a flock of Canada geese just a moment before the plane struck the birds.
- Sully didn't lose his presence of mind, even after he realized that both engines had shut down. He understood there was no chance that the aircraft would end up somewhere on a runway, undamaged.
- He tried to find a way to get the plane to the runway, but at 3:29 PM, Sullenberger repeated his words, only this time, he sounded even more sure: the plane WAS going to end up in the river.
- The impact was hard, but the plane was afloat and miraculously intact. Almost in unison, the pilots exclaimed, It wasn't as bad as I had thought!
- But the situation was far from safe. One panicked passenger opened one of the rear doors, and the flight attendant couldn’t manage to seal it again. Water started to fill the plane through this door as well as through a hole in the fuselage.
- The Hudson water temperature was just 41 degrees F (5 degrees C), and some people had to stand knee-deep in the water to be rescued since some of the inflatable slides were partially submerged.
- All the passengers and crew members were alive; there were only 5 serious injuries, and 78 people received some sort of treatment, mostly for hypothermia and minor injuries.
- When the authorities investigated afterward, they tested whether it would have been possible for the plane to return to La Guardia airport safely. The answer was no.

Long Flight HACKS You Need To Know About!

Long Flight HACKS You Need To Know About!

Welcome back to Around The Globe, today on the channel we are going to check out the 11 HACKS to survive long-haul flights! Thanks to the miracle of human flight, we can now fly direct from Newark, New Jersey, to Singapore in just under 19 hours. That also means people spend nearly an entire day of their lives off the ground, in cruising altitude limbo, only to land with the kind of jet-lag that eclipses exhaustion. For any serious traveler, long-haul flights are a necessary evil. How do they do it? Here, 12 tips for surviving—even enjoying—a day in the air.

Buy your ticket as early as possible. Waiting and hoping for that $20 price drop, more often than not, is not worth the trouble. Not only does buying early give you peace of mind in the weeks and months leading up to your departure, it increases the likelihood that enough seats remain open for you to pick where you want to sit—whether you prefer to cuddle up to a window, have easy access to the aisle, or stretch your legs in an exit row. Wait until the last minute and chances are good that you (and your elbows) will be sandwiched into a dreaded middle seat. Frequent flier? The time to cash those miles in on an upgrade is now. Wear your most comfortable outfit. That fitted blouse and skin-tight pair of jeans might make you feel like you’re 20 again, but trust us—after sitting (and attempting to sleep) in them for 15 hours, you’ll never want to look at that outfit again. When it comes to long-distance travel, stick to a “comfy-chic” dress code of neutral, loose-fitting layers you can move around in. Besides keeping cozy on a flight, you’ll also guard against deep vein thrombosis—a serious condition that’s aggravated when you sit in cramped positions for long periods of time. 10 Crazy Things You Didn't Know About Flight Attendants!

Heinrich Kubis was the world’s first air-steward and was on duty aboard the Hindenburg when it burst into flames. He managed to survive by jumping out of a window just before the craft hit the ground. Since then “cabin boys” were employed to serve food on flights and twenty years later, the first female stewardess was hired. In just 6 years, female hostesses had all but taken over the role. Nowadays it’s easy to feel like a knowledgeable traveler as commercial flight is so common, but we’re going to reveal 10 things you didn’t know about flight attendants!

1. No, They’re Not Waiters.
The term “waitresses of the skies” often gets bandied about. But flight attendants are so much more than that. Rather than waiters, they are more like police officers enforcing the right to remove you from the flight if they consider you to be problematical. In some countries they are even equipped with tasers. Oh yeh, and they are also...

2. Trained in Hand-to-Hand Combat
The cabin crew are responsible for the safety of the lives of sometimes up to 525 people being hurled through the air at 500mph. Being able to contain an unruly passenger in those circumstances is essential and many are trained in hand-to-hand combat. Think about that before you abuse the overhead bell...

3. They Are Trained to Deliver Babies on Board
Apart from other basic first aid procedures, flight attendants are also trained to deliver babies in an emergency situation. This training can be vital for a pregnant woman who finds herself suspended in the air at 35,000 feet, 2 hours away from the nearest airport.

4. They Have Survival Training
Their training isn’t just for routine flights. In the event of an emergency and having guided the passengers through an improvised crash landing, your flight attendant also has basic survival skills to ensure a prompt rescue and well-being of the remaining passengers throughout extreme conditions. Remember this the next time they kindly ask you to turn off your phone.

5. They Are Trained Fire Fighters
Maybe this would have gone down differently if Heinrich Kubis had been trained? Since the 60’s when smoking on planes was completely fine, flight attendants had to be trained in fire safety. Nowadays, despite the smoking ban, the cabin crew are still trained how to extinguish a fire in case of an emergency.

6. They Are Rigorously Selected
Back in the 40’s Air-Stewardesses were required to be; high school graduates, single, 20 years of age, 5 foot 2 but no more than 5'9, weigh 105 to 135 pounds and have at least 20/40 vision without glasses. Today many of these requirements still exist, including strict rules of hair length and colour and even makeup and fingernail styles. Only those who meet requirements are selected to be Flight Attendants.

7. It’s Often Their First Time
It’s not just the passengers that change on each flight. There are 100,000 flight attendants working in the U.S. alone. Each aboard a different flight, flying to a different destination. It’s not always possible for them to return with the same crew that they came with and are constantly rotating and working with new people. So it’s likely that you’re not the only stranger in the cabin.

8. They’re Not Immune to Jetlag
Imagine a 17 hour flight from Dallas to Sydney. It can leave you pretty jetlagged and disorientated right? Well imagine that everyday. Flight attendants have to soldier on through this and keep it together despite the dim lights and sleeping passengers. Luckily they have their own bunks and some attendants even use their days off to shake off the jet lag.

9. They Don’t Just Work on the Plane
The job of ticket agent is often rotated among the attendants of the departing flight. So when you irately demand an explanation for the delay, you’re likely to be talking to one of the hostesses aboard your flight who may or may not bring you an extra pillow.

10. Be nice
Flight Attendants have admitted that when in the air they almost have complete control over who gets seat upgrades and complimentary perks. Many attendants reserve better seats, meal preferences, double drinks, and a selection of limited stocked complimentary items for passengers who treat them like fellow human beings.
