Packing for a trip can be challenging. Packing for long-term, extended travel can be a nightmare.

Luckily, we’re experts in this kind of stuff. Watch the full video to discover ten tips from the Pack Hacker team that will help you keep things minimal and pack better for your next trip.

WHAT TO PACK FOR LONG TERM TRAVEL (carry-on only) | Regrets + Free Packing List

In this video we show you what to pack for long-term travel and include a packing list for travel in 2024! There are lots of packing videos out there, so why should you watch this one? Well, we left for full-time travel in March 2021 with only carry-on bags, and we have learned so much about packing in our first year of full-time travel. We have jam packed this video with as many useful tips and words of wisdom to help you prepare for your trip, whether it be a two week city-hopping-holiday or a one-way-trip-with-no-end-date kind of adventure!

We broke this video into three sections to make it easy for you to watch/listen to the part(s) that are most relevant to you. Part 1 covers what we pack, part 2 talks about our biggest packing lessons learned, and part 3 is how we pack for long term travel!

In the video you will learn that as we begin our second year of full-time travel we have purchased bigger backpacks that are no longer carry-on size! We explain why we are making this change in the video and hope it helps you decide if carry-on or check-in luggage is the right decision for you.

If you are packing for a backpacking trip around South America, or leaving to start your journey as a digital nomad, we think you will find lots of good information here! For example, we have developed some strong feelings about merino wool since leaving to travel full-time and we hope our real-life experience helps you make better decisions about clothing than we did when we started ????

Get more travel tips:

If you’re visiting a cooler climate, you’ll want to pack warm and cozy layers. But packing sweaters and ski pants in your suitcase may be challenging. We have a solution. Save space with this clever packing method using rollable compression bags and strategically placed socks and accessories.

What you’ll need:

Sweaters
Pants
Long sleeved t-shirts
Toiletry bag
Socks
Scarf
Hat
Gloves
Compression bags

Instructions:

1. First lay out your clothes and compression bags.
2. Roll each bulky item into a compression bag before stacking it in the bottom of your suitcase.
Note: Bulkier items include sweaters, insulated jackets or even ski pants.
3. Roll your other garments, like pants and t-shirts, to maximize space.
4. Once your clothes are packed, add your toiletry bag on top. This will make it easily accessible during travel.
5. Add cold weather accessories like your scarf, hat and gloves to inside pockets or find space between bulkier items.
6. Zip and go!

My name is Kevin! In 2019, I quit my job to travel full time. I started out traveling the world, hopping from country to country every 30 days. When international travel became impossible, I bought a van and set out to experience van life and full time RV living, camping all over the United States. In May 2021, I sold my van and bought a one way ticket to Hawaii! Soon I'll be traveling internationally again...where to? I have no clue, but I hope you'll subscribe & join me on this travel adventure!
