China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Amazing Things to Do in Macau & Top Macau Attractions

Discover with us the most amazing things to do in Macau & Top Macau Attractions. Welcome to Macau - Las Vegas of the East. Apart from the huge number of casinos, the city has a unique atmosphere where you can experience a fusion of Chinese culture and rich Portuguese heritage. If you are going to visit Hong Kong, Macau is only 60 kilometers away. The cities are connected by a system of tunnels and bridges, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge - the world's longest continuous infrastructure construction across the sea.
Whether or not you are a fan of gambling, don't miss a visit to the biggest casino resort in the world - Venetian Macau. A visit to this breathtaking place can take up to a whole day. You don't have to be a guest to experience a cruise in a Venetian gondola, and nowhere in Asia are there more luxury shops concentrated in one place than here.
History lovers shouldn't miss a visit to the A-Ma Temple. It is believed that the name of the city is derived from the name of this temple. Its origins date back to the 15th century AD, and it is one of the oldest traditional temples in Macau. The complex is made up of 6 sections, each of which reveals the gems of classical Chinese architecture. When you visit, don't forget to write, and hang your wishes if you want them to be fulfilled.
The city was a Portuguese colony for more than 400 years, as evidenced by the ruins of the 16th-century complex, where the beautiful facade and the front stairway of St. Paul's Cathedral are the best preserved.
The best place to breathe the history of old Macau is the Largo do Senado Square, the governmental centre from the colonial era. You will find splendid pastel-colored classic buildings, shops, and restaurants with typical southern European architecture. When walking through the old city, we recommend trying local cuisine - it is a unique mixture of Chinese and Portuguese tastes.
At a close distance to the square, about 5 minutes by foot, visit the late 16th-century Baroque-style St. Dominic's Church - the oldest church building in the city. This building shows the mixture of European and local Macanese features in its design. The church's high altar features a beautiful statue of the Madonna and Child as the centerpiece and is flanked by wood and ivory-carved statues of several saints.
Not afraid of heights? Then you must visit the 338-metre-high Macau Tower. Its observation deck features the best views of the city, restaurants, theatres, and shopping malls.

Walking in Zhuhai, the Happiest City in China With Beautiful Long Coastline | 4K HDR

Zhuhai is a modern city in China’s southern Guangdong province, on the border with Macau.

Transformed into one of China’s first Special Economic Zones in 1980, today the city is known for golf resorts, theme parks and islands off the Pearl River Delta.

Zhuhai is a coastal city in Guangdong Province, China. The name 'Zhuhai' means Pearl Sea coming from Zhuhai's location where the Pearl River flows into the South Sea.

In 1980 Zhuhai was approved as one of China's 1st five Special Economic Zones due in Zhuhai's case to its location adjacent to capitalist Macau. Zhuhai promptly became a boom town expanding from 100 000 inhabitants to become a modern city with a 2018 population of 1.9 million people.

Zhuhai is a very popular tourist destination known as the Chinese Riviera. It's nicknames are the city for lovers and The Hundred Island City (217 according the city's official website with 147 of them over 500 square metres).

It is one of China's prettiest, cleanest, greenest cities with a beautiful coastline and wavy palm trees. As well as being voted China's most livable city Zhuhai has been awarded, “Best Garden City in China”, “The Happiest City in China” and “China’s Excellent Tourism City”.

People enjoy its many open spaces that help give it a low population density.

Despite a small population of 2.4 million relative to the other eight cities in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region, Zhuhai had 3.18 million overnight foreign tourist numbers in 2019.

That places Zhuhai 3rd for that metric after Guangzhou and Shenzhen among the PRD cities. Zhuhai plans to extend a tourism industry that focuses on leisure and sight-seeing, and to develop Hengqin into a tourist island targeting leisure travelers from across the globe.

Local authorities promote Zhuhai as an ecotourism destination despite various environmentally destructive projects in the area. Zhuhai is unique in mainland China as a pulsating nightlife holiday destination, of the kind that similarly attracts people to visit such locations in other countries.

The Zhuhai area has been inhabited for 4 000 to 5 000 years since the neolithic age. The locality increased in importance during the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties when its island ports became stopovers on the 'Maritime Silk Road'.

After the Song Dynasty, Xiangshan Town was formed in Shanchang Village where the salt industry was blossoming. Qianshan Fortress was built during the late Ming dynasty, acting as a military department managing affairs with Macao.

The area was a base for imperial forces during the Opium Wars but basically remained a collection of coastal villages with a population of around 100,000.

The outer islands followed on 3 August 1950. Administrative changes led to the area in 1953 being renamed Zhuhai.

The Zhuhai Special Economic Zone was designated in 1979 and approved in August 1980. Zhuhai's selection as a SEZ was largely due to its location immediately adjacent to capitalist Macau (similar to Shenzhen's selection being for its position adjacent to Hong Kong). Zhuhai boomed to include nearby areas and is now a modern city with a population of 2.4 million as at 2020.

Located in the Pearl River Delta, Zhuhai borders Jiangmen to the northwest, Zhongshan to the north, and former Portuguese colony Macau to the south. By sea, former British colony Hong Kong and Shenzhen are just across the bay to the east. The provincial capital Guangzhou is about 150 km to the north.

Zhuhai city inland portions of the terrain from the northwest to Southeast tilt, and diverse topography, with plain (25.5%), hills (58.68%), which has low mountain, tidal flat. Flat terrain, the hills of Linhai, sea area is vast, the hundred islands crouch, have qifengyidan beautiful bay, and the beach. Inland from Lantau Peak, General Hill's two major mountain ranges and coastal hills, plains. Sanzao island is the largest island, an area of about 78 square kilometers.

Mountain land, hills, plains, terraces, is arranged in a crisscross pattern water network division. Coastal alluvial plain from the Xijiang and Beijiang together into alluvial deposits.

Macau Travel Tips: 10 Things to Know Before You Go

10 things YOU need to know before you go to Macau. A comprehensive travel guide to bring you up to speed on the Language, Food, Casinos, and more! First, some basic knowledge on Macau: Macau was a Colony of Portugal from 1557-1999, and now it’s a Special Administrative Region of China just like Hong Kong. Macau is small -- 30 sq km, or 11 sq miles. 640,000 people live there. In 2017 Macau had 30 million visitors… lots of people for such a tiny place. 64km (40 miles) west of Hong Kong. A great day trip from Hong Kong, but easily worth 2 nights

Macau is best known as a gambling and shopping mecca, but it also has a really neat historic portuguese center
Macau is the only place in China where you can gamble legally. It generates more revenue from gambling than anywhere else on the earth including more than about seven times the revenue generated by “The Strip” in La Vegas

4 main parts…
the main part of Macau with the historic Portuguese core. This is called the Macau Peninsula
Taipa
Cotai Strip
Colane

2. Getting In

Ferry from Hong Kong
Takes 40-60 Minutes
2 different operators
Turbojet: The Red One
Cotai Water Jet: The Blue One
4 Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong
2 Ferry Terminals in Macau -
If you’re going to the Cotai Strip, most convenient to take Cotai Water Jet
Going to the Historic Portuguese section, take Turbojet

Macau does have it’s own airport, but not many flights

There’s a new bridge from HKG to Macau, you can take a bus on it

Or cross the border by land from China.

4. Unlucky
This number omitted because it’s unlucky. 4 in Chinese sounds like the word for “Death.” Most buildings typically omit this floor.

5. Getting Around

Free Shuttle Service

Macau’s hotels offer free shuttle service from the airport, ferry terminals, and border gates.

· The Venetian Macao Free Shuttle Schedule

· The Parisian Macao Free Shuttle Schedule

Tips:

·Base price (first 1.6 km): MOP17, additional MOP2 for each 260 m afterwards.
Extra fees: Taxi waiting fee is MOP2 for every minute. Taxis have a MOP3 luggage storing fee. There is a MOP2 fee from Taipa to Coloane, and a MOP5 fee from Macau to Coloane. There is an MOP5 fee for taxi trips to and from the airport.

The exchange rate is fixed at HK$1 = MOP$1.03
But you’ll typically get change back in MOP

7. Language

Portuguese (but its own dialect)
And Chinese (Cantonese)
A little less english than Hong Kong, but enough to get by

8. Shopping

In every hotel on the Cotai Strip

9. The rest of Macau outside the Casinos and Historic Districts

10. Food:
Macanese cuisine’ is a mix of southern Chinese and Portuguese ingredients and cooking techniques. With a history dating back over 400 years, the cuisine is often regarded as the world’s first fusion cuisine.

Egg Tart that is so popular in Dim Sum restaurants originated here.. Lord Stows cafe is the original located in Taipa. Most convenient location is the one in the Venetian

Exploring The Enigmatic Beauty of Zhuhai | 2024 China Walking Tour

The first stop of Walk East in 2024 is Zhuhai, Guangdong.

This is one of Max's favorite cities. In the cold winter in China, you can wear short-sleeved shirts and take a leisurely stroll on the beach in Zhuhai, or you can have fun eating, drinking and having fun here.

This video specifically introduces the Jinwan Civic Art Center in Zhuhai. It's so beautiful here!
-------------------⭐⭐
Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Center / Zaha Hadid Architects
-------------------⭐⭐
Designed as a hub of contemporary creativity within one of the world’s most dynamic regions, the Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Centre is at the heart of Aviation New City, an urbanization with a built area of 4.78 million sq. m housing 100,000 residents and incorporating new civic, cultural, academic and commercial infrastructure within Zhuhai’s Jinwan district.

The Zhuhai Airport Railway, an extension of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway, provides direct connections with Zhuhai’s city center and its airport, while the new Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge enables those in Shenzhen and Hong Kong to reach Zhuhai in less than an hour.

Integrating three distinct cultural institutions for the city (a Performing Arts Centre with a 1200-seat Grand Theatre and a 500-retractable-seat multifunctional Black Box theatre; an interactive Science Centre; and an Art Museum) each venue within the Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Arts Centre incorporates unique characteristics that create differing visitor experiences, yet all are united by a coherent formal and structural logic that spans 170 meters wide from east to west and 270 meters long from north to south.

Arranged symmetrically on a central axis, the two larger and two smaller venues are connected by a central plaza that serves as a shared external foyer for all of the cultural institutions.

Glazed walls facing this courtyard enable visitors to determine the individuality and character of each venue. The Grand Theatre and Art Museum are finished in a light palate of materials, while the multifunctional Black Box Theatre and Science Centre are composed of darker materials.

Echoing the chevron patterns of migratory birds flying in formation over southern China, the latticed steel canopies sheltering each venue are configured through repetition, symmetry, and scale variation; resulting in a composition of related elements that respond to the different functional requirements of each building.

This repetition of the self-supporting and self-stabilizing roof modules optimized pre-fabrication, pre-assembly, and the use of modular construction.

The distinctive roof structure unites the different venues under a network of reticulated shells that envelop the four wings of the center. Interconnecting bridges and voids create a multi-layered public plaza at the heart of the center with views to the interiors as well as to the surrounding promenades with their cafés, restaurants, and educational facilities.

The design optimizes intuitive navigation with natural light in all public areas to enhance connectivity; creating engaging civic spaces for locals to enjoy throughout the day and evening.

The Art Museum adapts the chevron geometries of the roof to frame the main atrium which provides natural light to the museum while at the same time creating a continuous vertical surface to display artworks. An internal gallery, storage, and administrative spaces are located behind this vertical division.

Merging architecture with an exhibition experience, a continuous white ‘ribbon’ of the museum’s vertical circulation and exhibition route is its’ defining feature.

Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Centre’s podium defines an island within ZhongXin Lake.

Constructed in concrete, the center consists of five structurally separate buildings, each with its own self-supporting external steel canopy.

Supported by only 22 columns and spanning a total of 270m x 170m, these free-formed steel roof canopies are composed of symmetrical geometries to enable their modular, repetitive structures to be fabricated off-site and assembled from only two different column types.
