I have read and studied many travel guides for Zermatt and always felt that this magnificent village isn't properly covered. The first thing upon arrival at Zermatt station is to rent your ski or snowboard gear so you can go up the mountains in the early morning without any hassles. A good start is the Gornergrat, to get there you can jump on the highest-altitude cogwheel railway in Europe which ends at the highest hotel in Switzerland, the Kulmhotel, from here you can also set eyes on the mountain in Switzerland, the Monte Rosa Massif. After you day on the slopes have dinner at the unique Chez Heini restaurant for their bizarre Red High Heel Soup, usually the soup of the day and their extremely juicy lamb chops. Alternatively, feast on the Swiss traditional dish Raclette at Du Pont restaurant, the oldest restaurant in Zermatt.
The most unique attraction in Zermatt is by far the Cheese Fondue in an Igloo experience. For 70 Swiss francs or 70 US dollars you will join a tour group venturing out the Iglu-dorf located in the mountains near the Riffelberg station. Inside the giant Iglu-dorf complex, created out of igloos, you will be welcoming with a warm cup of mulled red wine and presented with the most incredible cheese fondue experience while you enjoy the live music, every Thursday!
The Iglu-dorf is basically a giant hotel complex with many rooms, a love-nest and a bar complete with a jacuzzi. Renting a igloo room for one night can be quite expensive but an experience for a lifetime. Why wouldn't you want to wake up among gorgeous crafted ice sculptures of wild animals ranging from buffalos to eagles.
Downtown Zermatt has plenty to offer as well, from a stroll through the ancient Hinterdorf street where you can get lost between 30 elevated barns, stables and storage units built between the 15th and 19th century. Don't forget to drop by the Matterhorn Museum - Zermatlantis and the St. Mauritius church for a true local experience.
Zermatt even has their own beer brewery. They offer 4 flavours for each season which you can enjoy at the many venues downtown, like Harry's Bar or Little Bar. For an epic night out, visit Hotel Post which has a gigantic nightlife complex of multiple stories offering many bars, dancefloors and a variety of live music & DJ's. Namely; Broken Bar and The Factory.
Alpen Resort Hotel may the best place to stay in Zermatt for their great breakfast buffet, panorama rooms looking over Zermatt with views of the Matterhorn, a games room, and a giant pool in the basement, complete with a Finnish spa, roman steam bath, hot tub and a fully decked out gym.
The Matterhorn mountain is the most famous attraction in Zermatt, most tourists come to Zermatt to enjoy this breath-taking sight. The Matterhorn ski pass is an international one, which allows you to ski into Italy and back into Switzerland without problems, it is the only winter sport resort with such an unique feature. Spent at least 2 to 3 days in Zermatt to fully grasp the magic of this wonderful village. The Swiss Travel Pass covers free transit in Switzerland on trains, boats, buses and cable cars and 420 museums in Switzerland. 240 CHF, $240 US dollars, it would be a mistake visiting Switzerland without it.

Zermatt Switzerland – Best Things to do during Winter – Beautiful Alpine Panorama [Travel Guide]
Zermatt is the place to seek amazing panoramic views up in the Swiss Alps. One of the world's most famous peaks can be spotted in here: The iconic MATTERHORN. Zermatt is a very pretty village, in particular during winter, it's touristy, but for a good reason! There are a lot of things one can do up there! The probably most-known panorama you could get at the Gornergrat. You may get up there by taking a train that costs around 110.- CHF for return. Up there, you will get to see the Matterhorn from the side. Other very important things to see are the massive Gorner glacier, Dufourspitze (Monte Rosa) and the Kleinmatterhorn. A notably cheaper peak to visit - and my personal favorite panorama - would be the Rothorn. You would need to take an underground funicular, followed by 2 cabin rides. Up on the Rothorn, you get a brilliant frontal view over the Matterhorn; in my opinion the best view! Surely during Winter, the panorama up there looks stunning! Visit also the village of Zermatt. It charms with its many traditional wooden houses that are stereotypical for the canton of Valais / Wallis. There is a section at where you will get to see many of them, which is located at the Hinterdorfstrasse. This is a great place to take memorable photos. Also walk along the river Vispa, from there you get a nice bottom view over the Matterhorn, beautiful to take photos with the village in the foreground. The main road called Bahnhofstrasse is the touristy centre of Zermatt. It can be crowded but it sort of feels lovely! There are many restaurants at where you can dine at. The village is in particular nice during the sunset and dusk. During December/January/February/March, the village transforms into a perfect Winter Wonderland during the night! Also visit the Kleinmatterhorn, the highest alpine station you could visit in the Swiss Alps and even in Europe! The Kleinmatterhorn is located on 3890m above sea level. Thus, it is already very high up! You will feel the thin air, but somehow it's also quite exciting! Visit the ice palace (Matterhorn Glacier Paradise), which is a manmade cave inside the glacier. There, you can see many carved ice figures.

Switzerland is a small country full of surprises and wonderful villages. Since decades, Switzerland has been attracting numerous tourists from allover the world. It is the Alps that fascinates most of the visitors but also the very well preserved villages. Although Switzerland is quite small, depending on the region, the villages and towns may look very different. In this video, the 10 most beautiful villages from allover the country will be presented in detail. While there may be a few that you might have heard of, there will be quite some surprises. Gruyères is THE place to experience the medieval vibes in Switzerland. The castle, the museums and furthermore the foodie world of Gruyères are really exciting to experience, do not forget to try fondue, Gruyère cheese and double cream! Zermatt is the most popular village on this list. Visit the many panoramas over the Swiss Alps, see the Matterhorn or simply explore the village of Zermatt itself! Discover the many beautiful traditional wooden houses scattered around this Swiss village! Visit what used to be the smallest municipality of Switzerland: Corippo. Corippo is located in the Valle Verzasca in Ticino. It's a wonderful village full of stone houses and very interesting: ONLY 12 people live in there! Surely, it's not crowded there. Saint-Ursanne is another medieval village; the town that could be in a fairytale. Saint-Ursanne is built along the river doubs and charms with its many medieval houses and wonderful abbey. Enjoy the scenery with its many waterfalls and greens! Do not forget to go up to Wengen and the Jungfraujoch! Epesses is located in Switzerland's wine region at lake Geneva! It's a wonderful village in the middle of the vineyards and definitely offers you enough viewpoints over the wine terraces, lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps. Stein am Rhein is also a very medieval and cultural village. The old town is perfectly preserved and charms with its many painted houses. Spectacular is the No e Wili play that is held on a 10-25 years base. Enjoy swimming in the river Rhine or dining at the Castle Hohenklingen. MORCOTE is the most beautiful Swiss village on this Top 10 list! It's located at Lake Lugano and charms with its appearance of being built at the hill. Stunning is the church Maria del Sasso, the wonder garden in the Parco Scherrer and furthermore the many viewpoints on the hill. Morcote is by the way considered not very touristy. Top 10 Winter Switzerland - Christmas and more! [Travel Guide]
Winter in Switzerland is a great season, as there are plenty of great things to do! Especially up in the Swiss Alps, there will be a lot of snow. There will be no greens during Winter and thus, the activities during the white season will very much differ from Summer. Winter is the season for skiing, Christmas, sledding, carnival and snow in general. Having travelled across the country during this season, I present you the Top 10 attractions of Switzerland during Winter.
Up in the Swiss Alps, there are many beautiful villages that appear specially nice during Winter. For example Grimentz is very much worth to visit during this time. Just nearby, there is the Zinal Glacier that looks very fascinating with its natural ice cave. You will need to go for a two hours’ winter hike to reach the glacier. December marks the beginning of Winter and also of Christmas season. Visit the many Christmas markets all around the country, in the larger cities or in the villages. During this month, many towns transform into charming Winter wonderland. Sledding is another great and fun activity to go for during Winter. Great toboggan runs (tracks) are up in Andermatt at the Nätschen or at Bergün. Feel the thrill of the speed while going downhill. Great views you can get at the Grindelwald First, you will see the many peaks of the Swiss Alps and also can go for skiing. Very enjoyable is the cliff walk at the Grindelwald First that takes you around a massive rock. Also consider visiting the village of Grindelwald itself. Zermatt is a very highlight of Winter up in the Swiss Alps. During this season, you will often get unobstructed views to the Matterhorn, the landmark of Switzerland. There are various places from where you can get a brilliant view over the Matterhorn: At Zermatt village itself, Sunegga, Blauherd, the Rothorn or the Gornergrat. All in all, so many great things to do during Winter in Switzerland.

ZERMATT Gornergrat Adventure – 1 DAY Budget Trip to Zermatt Switzerland in Winter
Zermatt is one of the most visited places in all of Switzerland. This got much to do with the iconic Matterhorn that makes one of the best subjects for photography in Switzerland. Zermatt is up in the Swiss Alps, a mainstream destination and thus expensive, even for Switzerland. In this video, I show you a great itinerary for a 1 DAY TRIP to Zermatt on a BUDGET. Zermatt is expensive, but costs can be cut, without compromising on the quality. You need to arrive to Zermatt by train from Visp or Täsch, you cannot park your car up in Zermatt. First go to visit the village, it’s less crowded during the morning, thus really great to roam around. There are a couple of interesting points to see in the village, the main street that is the shopping boulevard, there are a lot of restaurants and bars, the church square, the bridge just nearby that offers a nice view, the promenade along the river and the old town with the traditional Swiss houses. The old town is located at the Hinterdorfstrasse. This area is full of houses that are typical for Valais. Go up to the Gornergrat during the early afternoon. You will have to take a stunning train ride up to the Gornergrat; it’s said to be one of the best train tracks you can take in all of Switzerland. Up from the GOrnergrat, you will have a fantastic alpine panorama over the Matterhorn, Kleinmatterhorn, Rothorn and Dufourspitze. You also can see the massive Gorner Glacier that is really impressive to look at. One station further down at Rotenboden, you may rent a sledge and slide down to the next station at Riffelberg. This toboggan run is really fun, especially with the marvelous view with the Matterhorn.
