El Salvador Travel Guide - An Amazing Adventure

El Salvador Travel Guide - An Amazing Adventure

El Salvador is a country in Central America and, geographically, is part of continental North America. It is bordered on the southwest by the Pacific Ocean, and lies between Guatemala and Honduras. It is divided into 14 sections called Departments. It has 25 volcanoes, 14 lakes, and three large cities and is divided in to East, Central and West with the the capital San Salvador in the central region, Santa Ana in the west and San Miguel the largest city in the east.

The civilization of El Salvador dates from the pre-Columbian time, around 1500 BC, according to evidence provided by the ancient structures of Tazumal in Chalchuapa. El Salvador has a tropical climate with pronounced wet and dry seasons. Temperatures vary primarily with elevation and show little seasonal change. The Pacific lowlands are uniformly hot; the central plateau and mountain areas are more moderate.

The countryside of El Salvador is breathtaking, with volcanoes and mountains offering green adventurers exactly what they are looking for. Many of environmentally-oriented community-based organizations promote eco-tourism, and there are a number of beautiful and secluded beaches and forests scattered throughout the country.

A well-maintained and sparsely populated national park is found in the west at Bosque El Imposible. Additionally, there is Montecristo Cloud Forest, and a quaint fishing village with incredible local hospitality and remote coconut islands in La Isla de Méndez. Isla de Olomega in the department of San Miguel is an excellent eco-tourism destination, as are the beautiful Isla El Cajete in Sonsonate, Isla San Sebastian, Conchagua, Conchaguita, Isla Conejo, Isla Teopan, and Isla Meanguera.

One should also visit the colonial towns of Ataco, Apaneca, Juayua, Panchimalco, and Suchitoto as well as the Mayan sites of San Andrés, Joya de Cerén (The Pompeii of Central America and an UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Tazumal, whose main pyramid rises some 75 feet into the air. The on-site museum showcases artifacts from the Pipil culture (the builders of Tazumal), as well as paintings that illustrate life in pre-Hispanic El Salvador. Souvenir hunters will find some of the best artisans in San Juan el Espino and in La Palma (the artisan capital of El Salvador).

The capital, San Salvador, is a cosmopolitan city with good restaurants highlighting the country’s fresh seafood, as well as plenty of shopping, entertainment and nightlife. San Miguel in the East offers tourists a more authentic way to see El Salvador by getting off the beaten track to see its countryside, coastline and lakes

The Side of El Salvador You Will Never Experience With A Tour Guide
Is San Salvador El Salvador safe to visit for tourists despite its crime rate and violence? Yes, despite all the crime and violence, which doesn’t affect tourists, El Salvador is safe for tourists to visit. However, visitors still need to be cautious, follow all safety recommendations, and take precautions. Tourists should stay and go to the recommended areas, which have extra security and are considered safer.
El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America and the only one without a Caribbean coastline. El Salvador is known as the “Land of the Volcanoes” because of the more than 20 volcanoes in the territory.
Metrocentro San Salvador is the largest and most visited shopping center in the region. Also the oldest shopping mall in El Salvador from what I been told from many of the locals. The first of these shopping centers was Metrocentro San Salvador , which was opened in 1970 , in San Salvador El Salvador

Biking the World’s MOST DANGEROUS Country (El Salvador) - Day 3

My goal is to change the perception of El Salvador. Welcome to my journey as I attempt to ride my bike across the entire country of El Salvador. El Salvador has been consistently ranked as having the most murders per capita in the entire world, leading El Salvador to acquire the perception of being the most dangerous country in the world. When most people hear “El Salvador”, their mind likely jumps to negative thoughts like murder and gang activity, but I KNOW there are beautiful places to see and kind people to meet in El Salvador.

Despite what I have heard in the news about El Salvador, I decided to purchase a bike in San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador, and attempt to bike across the entire country. My goal is to meet and understand the local people and form my own opinions of “the world’s most dangerous country”. During my bike trip across El Salvador, I’m hoping to discover what the media doesn't show us, a beautiful country filled with a beautiful culture and people. I'm hoping to create El Salvador news that is positive.

When I told others I was going to travel El Salvador, most people told me I needed to be careful. Most people said they wouldn’t visit El Salvador, let alone ride their bike alone across the world’s most dangerous country. Most people only know El Salvador through the lens of the media, and view El Salvador as a dangerous country to travel to and visit, especially as a tourist. However, I hope that my journey traveling El Salvador in 2022 can change perceptions of the country and even more, encourage you to challenge your preconceived ideas of El Salvador and form your own opinions of “the world’s most dangerous country”.

Of course, before traveling El Salvador, like any other country in the world, I would encourage everyone to research the country’s current situation beforehand to remain safe and optimize your time in the country.

After getting my brakes fixed to start off Day 3 of my journey across El Salvador, I continue biking toward the Guatemala border. After just a few kilometers, I pull over to buy some snacks from a kind El Salvadoran woman on the side of the road. As I approach the first town of the day, where I hope to get breakfast, I pulled over to ask for directions as I wasn't sure where to go. Little did I know, the man I asked is an extremely kind person who invited me into his restaurant and treated me to a delicious breakfast. After parting ways with my new friend, I continue on, biking past some incredible volcanos and rivers before making it to lunch. A few kilometers after lunch, I pull over to what seemed like a house fire on the side of the road. Luckily, I spoke with some locals who said everything was under control. After a long day of biking, I finally make it to Zacatecoluca, which is where I end my day. As I walk around Zacatecoluca, I meet so many friendly people, and I end up eating pupusas, a traditional El Salvadoran dish, with another group of amazing locals.

So far I have felt extremely safe traveling El Salvador and am overwhelmed by the kindness and hospitality I am experiencing from the locals. I can't wait to continue exploring the country!

Biking the World’s MOST DANGEROUS Country (El Salvador) - Day 4

Of course, before traveling El Salvador, like any other country in the world, I would encourage everyone to research the country’s current situation beforehand to remain safe and optimize your time in the country.

Day 4 of riding my bike across the country of El Salvador turns out to be quite the challenge. Day 4 starts out with climbing some really big hills, lots of dirt roads, and problems with my bike. After finally making it from Zacatecoluca to the town of Tecoluca, I stop to get something to eat, relax, and figure out what my plan is for the rest of the day as I am no longer on track to get to Cojutepeque, like I had originally planned. After a quick fruit smoothie, I have breakfast with my new friend, Kevin, who turns out to be an incredibly kind and hard-working El Salvadoran. After a great conversation with Kevin and exploring the central market in Tecoluca, I set off toward San Vicente. After arriving in San Vicente, I go to a bike shop to get my bike fixed so the rest of my trip will hopefully run more smoothly.

So far I have felt extremely safe traveling El Salvador and am overwhelmed by the kindness and hospitality I am experiencing from the locals. I can't wait to continue exploring the country!
