How to get to Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam:
Many choose to visit the Zaanse Schans as part of a guided tour or excursion, but the village is also easy to reach under your own steam by car or public transport -
???? You can reach here by taking bus 391 from Amsterdam central Station, Bus will take you directly to
the wind mills area and takes around 45 minutes.and a round trip ticket will cost around 11.5 euros.
???? But I will suggest to go Zaanse Schans by train from Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station because of 2 reasons.
1⃣ - it is cheaper, as you must be using GBV day card for public transport in Amsterdam, hence travel to Sloterdijk station is covered in that pass.. and a round trip train ticket from sloterdijk station to Zandijk Zaanse Schans station will cost 6.4 euros, so you will save 5 euros compared to bus ticket.
2⃣ - From Zaandijk Zaanse Schans station, windmills village is at a 10-15 mins walk, during which u will cross the zaan river, and from the bridge you will get beautiful panoramic view of the old windmills.

In its 18th and 19th century heyday, the Zaan region was an important industrial area dotted by hundreds of windmills producing linseed oil, paint, snuff, mustard, paper and other products. Many of the Zaanse Schans' characteristic village houses are now museums, gift shops or workshops while others are still used as private residences. Some of the Zaanse Schans' remaining windmills are also open to the public.

We travel from Bristol and have a fantastic weekend break in Zaandam and Zaanse Schans in Holland.
Zaandam is such a pretty and unique city in Holland and ideal for a romantic weekend away.
With the beautiful Zaanse schans only a short bike ride away.
We stayed at the Intel hotel Zaandam a really cool hotel and a very unique place to stay in Zaandam.
Zaandam was a top place to visit in Holland..this less known city should really be on the best places to visit in Holland list.
Day two of our trip we hire bikes and head to one of Hollands top places to visit Zaans Schans.
With it`s fantastic windmills and houses Zaans Schans is a must visit in Holland.
Only a short drive or train journey from Amsterdam Zaanse Schans is known for being one of the top places to visit in Amsterdam..you can even get there by boat tours !!.

Walking tour in Zaandam is like walking through big toy boxes !
Prepare yourself for a big surprise as soon as you see the first building!
Zaandam is a city in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is the main city of the municipality of Zaanstad, and received city rights in 1811. It is located on the river Zaan, just north of Amsterdam.
The statistical district Zaandam, which covers the city and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 76,804.
Zaandam was a separate municipality until 1974, when it became a part of the new municipality of Zaanstad.
The history of Zaandam (formerly called Saenredam) and the surrounding Zaan River region (the Zaanstreek) is intimately tied to industry. In the Dutch Golden Age, Zaandam served as a large milling centre. Thousands of windmills powered saws that processed Scandinavian wood for the shipbuilding and paper industries. A statue that commemorates this industry was commissioned from sculptor Slavomir Miletić, and the statue, De houtwerker (The Woodworker), was installed on 20 June 2004.
Zaandam was a leading city in the first Industrial Revolution but then begins a steady decline. Zaandam is also historically linked with the whaling industry.
In 1697, Tsar Peter I of Russia spent some time in Zaandam, where he studied shipbuilding. He stayed in a little wooden house built in 1632, but was soon forced to leave because he attracted too much attention from the local population; he moved to Amsterdam, where he studied at one of the wharves of the Dutch East India Company. The wooden house he stayed was preserved and turned into a museum, the Czar Peter House.
In 1871, the impressionist painter Claude Monet lived in Zaandam for approximately half a year. During that time, he made 25 paintings of the area, including Houses on the Achterzaan, Bateaux en Hollande pres de Zaandam and A windmill at Zaandam.
The shopping area (Centrum) in Zaandam offers everything for a day of great shopping. Since a few years the city centre has transformed into an interesting architectural area. The traditional houses are mixed up with modern day aspects. When arriving by train, the first thing you see is the world famous Inntel Hotel. Next to it is the city's town hall. From here you walk straight into the shopping area!
The classic mansions and the old plane trees make the Westzijde a pleasant street. Here you will find numerous specialty and family stores for more exclusive shopping. On this street you will also find the famous Bullekerk and you can enjoy a snack and a drink at the Zaan in Het Tolhuys.
Inntel hotels with 70 stacked Zaanse houses is the most talked-about building in the Zaan region. It has been discussed in all international architecture magazines. There are five different Zaanse facades - and the famous 'Blue House' painted by Monet - is also incorporated.
There's plenty of things to see and do nearby Zaandam as well. Volendam, Marken and Monnickendam are popular with tourists. These places hark back to times of more honest crafts, showcasing the traditional skills the region was famous for: shipbuilding, fishing and cheese making. You can also experience the heritage of the Dutch industrial revolution in the area, and perhaps the best place to do this is at Zaanse Schans, one of the Netherlands' best loved attractions. It offers a perfectly preserved glimpse into the Netherlands' industrial past with its spectacular windmills and traditional houses, warehouses and workshops.

In today’s vlog I bring you along with us on a trip to explore another side of The Netherlands, we go walking in Zaandam! The city is located only 12 minutes away by train from the Amsterdam urban area but we decided to go on the adventurous route and bike all the way from Sloterdijk station (Amsterdam) to Zaandam. The bike ride usually takes 1 hour but it only took us 40 minutes.
We spend some time wandering around in the beautiful Stadhuisplein and saw the postcard of this city, the Inntel Hotel, a very unique hotel that is famous for its lego-like architecture.
We also try some local food on a boat restaurant in the Main Street of the city before heading to the most beautiful part of the area, The Zaanse Schans. In this area we see the famous Dutch Windmills that you often see in postcards.

Zaandam is a small city 12 minutes away by train from Amsterdam, Netherlands. It's a place where you can see unique and creative buildings. Famous for its windmill town, 'Zaanse Schans' is part of Zaandam.
The landmarks here are Zaandam Station, Zaandam City Hall, Inntel Hotels. (You can see at the beginning of the video) I personally like the design of city hall.
Other things to do in Zaandam are Monet Atelier & Czar Peter House. Monet, an impressionist painter, stayed in Zaandam and left more than 30 paintings. In the atelier, you would see nice display of reproduction paintings Monet did while in Zaandam. There's also video that gives the history of Monet's time in Zaandam.
Peter the Great wanted Russia to be a powerful nation. He went to Zaandam and learned art of shipbuilding himself. He stayed in Zaandam only few days, but preservation of his house is quite good.

Zaandam is a city in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is the main city of the municipality of Zaanstad, and received city rights in 1811. It is located on the river Zaan, just north of Amsterdam.
The statistical district Zaandam, which covers the city and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 76,804.
Zaandam was a separate municipality until 1974, when it became a part of the new municipality of Zaanstad.
The history of Zaandam (formerly called Saenredam) and the surrounding Zaan River region (the Zaanstreek) is intimately tied to industry. In the Dutch Golden Age, Zaandam served as a large milling centre. Thousands of windmills powered saws that processed Scandinavian wood for the shipbuilding and paper industries. A statue that commemorates this industry was commissioned from sculptor Slavomir Miletić, and the statue, De houtwerker (The Woodworker), was installed on 20 June 2004.
Zaandam was a leading city in the first Industrial Revolution but then begins a steady decline. Zaandam is also historically linked with the whaling industry.
In 1697, Tsar Peter I of Russia spent some time in Zaandam, where he studied shipbuilding. He stayed in a little wooden house built in 1632, but was soon forced to leave because he attracted too much attention from the local population; he moved to Amsterdam, where he studied at one of the wharves of the Dutch East India Company. The wooden house he stayed was preserved and turned into a museum, the Czar Peter House.
In 1871, the impressionist painter Claude Monet lived in Zaandam for approximately half a year. During that time, he made 25 paintings of the area, including Houses on the Achterzaan, Bateaux en Hollande pres de Zaandam and A windmill at Zaandam.
The shopping area (Centrum) in Zaandam offers everything for a day of great shopping. Since a few years the city centre has transformed into an interesting architectural area. The traditional houses are mixed up with modern day aspects. When arriving by train, the first thing you see is the world famous Inntel Hotel. Next to it is the city's town hall. From here you walk straight into the shopping area!
The classic mansions and the old plane trees make the Westzijde a pleasant street. Here you will find numerous specialty and family stores for more exclusive shopping. On this street you will also find the famous Bullekerk and you can enjoy a snack and a drink at the Zaan in Het Tolhuys.
Inntel hotels with 70 stacked Zaanse houses is the most talked-about building in the Zaan region. It has been discussed in all international architecture magazines. There are five different Zaanse facades - and the famous 'Blue House' painted by Monet - is also incorporated.
There's plenty of things to see and do nearby Zaandam as well. Volendam, Marken and Monnickendam are popular with tourists. These places hark back to times of more honest crafts, showcasing the traditional skills the region was famous for: shipbuilding, fishing and cheese making. You can also experience the heritage of the Dutch industrial revolution in the area, and perhaps the best place to do this is at Zaanse Schans, one of the Netherlands' best loved attractions. It offers a perfectly preserved glimpse into the Netherlands' industrial past with its spectacular windmills and traditional houses, warehouses and workshops.

It usually takes around 13 minutes to travel the 6 miles (9 km) from Amsterdam to Zaandam by train, although you can get there in as little as 12 minutes on the fastest services.
Train tickets from Amsterdam to Zaandam start from €2.80 when you book in advance, which can be cheaper than buying them on the day.
Zaandam is a city located on the river Zaan. The city is also located in the province of North Holland. If you like the real Dutch Glory then you must have been to Zaandam. Zaandam was founded in the year 1811 and is therefore not very old, but it is characteristically Dutch.
A lot has also been built in the Zaan style in the center of Zaandam. So there is plenty to discover in this special Dutch city.

Exploring Giethoorn and Zaandam! | Netherlands Series
Giethoorn is a beautiful village in the northern part of the Netherlands. It’s famous for being a village where there are no cars. Just canals and footbridges. This village is incredibly beautiful and extremely picturesque. Renting a boat for a few hours is a great way to explore this village. Unfortunately, we didn’t have too much time and the boats were all booked by the time we arrived. But it was a great experience just to be in the village. We highly recommend arriving early to avoid any crowds and tourists. We also advise you to be respectful of people’s privacy.
We continue our adventures in Zaandam where it’s famous for the Zaanse Schans windmills. A cute little town with different kinds of farm animals, adorable shops, and of course the windmills. You’re able to stroll along the lake and get up close to the windmills. It’s a great place to relax and should not be missed when in the Netherlands.
