The 14 Best Huaraz Day Hikes In Peru [4K]

Huaraz Hiking Guide:

Huaraz is easily one of the best hiking destinations in the world. Located in northern Peru, Huaraz is a fantastic base for trekking in the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra.

There are many amazing hikes in Huaraz that have been barely explored by tourists. Beck and I were lucky enough to spend over a month hiking in Huaraz. During this time, we got to explore some truly hidden gems. In fact, it's these lesser-known hikes, such as the Four Lagunas Trek, Laguna 513, Laguna Shallap and Laguna Llaca, which were our favourite day hikes in Huaraz.

Of course, we also hiked popular trails in Huaraz such as Laguna 69, Laguna Paron, Laguna Churup, Laguna Wilcacocha and Pastoruri Glacier. For additional information about all the hikes in the video, we recommend checking out our Huaraz hiking guide – you’ll find the link above. Otherwise, you'll find the links to all of the individual Huaraz hiking guides we’ve written below.

I travelled from Peru to Colombia on a Cargo Boat down the Amazon River

So this is my experience travelling on a Cargo ship down the Amazon River from Iquitos in Peru to Leticia in Colombia. In total it took 40 hours. I purchased my own hammock which I slept on for 2 nights. The whole thing only cost 80 soles (around £18) and that included 3 meals a day! Your travel time is never guaranteed so you just stay on that cargo ship until you reach your destination!
I had a bit of difficulty getting my passport stamps to correctly exit Peru and enter Colombia on arrival, but I got there in the end!

PERU TRANSPORTATION: Best Ways of GETTING AROUND PERU fast, safe & cheaply. WATCH THIS BEFORE YOU GO

Here are some of the best ways to get around Peru and some tips for using its transportation system.

=======================

Fired travel agent wants revenge! Here's the secret to cheap flights:

=======================

Peru is a country rich in history, culture, and natural wonders. From the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu to the vibrant cities of Lima and Cusco, there's so much to see and do. But with such a vast country to explore, it can be overwhelming to decide on the best way to get around. That's where our video comes in - we'll show you the top options for traveling in Peru.

First up, buses. Bus travel is a popular and affordable way to get around Peru. You can choose from a range of bus companies, from budget to luxury, depending on your budget and preferences. Most buses are comfortable and have onboard amenities like Wi-Fi and entertainment. However, keep in mind that the roads in Peru can be winding and bumpy, so if you're prone to motion sickness, this might not be the best option for you.

Another popular option is the train. The train journey from Cusco to Machu Picchu is one of the most scenic train rides in the world, offering breathtaking views of the Andes mountains and the Sacred Valley. There are also trains that run between other major cities in Peru, such as Lima and Arequipa. Train travel can be more expensive than buses, but it's a great option if you want to enjoy the scenery and travel in comfort.

If you prefer the freedom of driving yourself, you can also rent a car in Peru. This is a good option if you want to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations or have more flexibility in your itinerary. However, keep in mind that driving in Peru can be challenging, especially in the cities, where traffic can be congested and chaotic.

Finally, there's air travel. Flights within Peru are relatively affordable and can save you a lot of time if you're traveling long distances. There are many domestic airlines to choose from, and flights are frequent and reliable. However, keep in mind that some destinations may not have an airport, or flights may be infrequent or expensive.

In our video, we'll also give you some tips for navigating Peru's transportation network, such as how to book tickets and avoid scams. We'll also show you how to find the best deals on transportation, so you can save money and make the most of your trip.

Whether you're planning to hike the Inca Trail, explore the Amazon rainforest, or soak up the culture in Lima, our video will help you choose the best transportation option for your trip to Peru. Don't miss out on the opportunity to see all that this incredible country has to offer - watch our video now!

HOW TO: All-inclusive AMAZON RIVER CRUISE on a CARGO SHIP | Yurimaguas to Iquitos, Peru

Peruvian Amazon is a very remote place where you can get by plane (not so hard, eh) and also by boat. The boat journey takes 3 days and is 400km long on the Amazon river from Yurimaguas to Iquitos. This is our crazy adventure on one of the cargo boats going to Iquitos.
You can definitely do the journey the other way, too, from Iquitos to Yurimaguas or any othe city upstream but this way with all the cargo and entering the Amazon it is more exciting.

Four Days in Peru's Amazon Jungle

Piranha fishing. Pink dolphin spotting. Dancing with local tribe members. A trip to Peru's Amazon jungle has it all! We knew we wanted to experience the world's biggest rainforest when we went to Peru, but figuring out where to go, what to do and how long to stay there can be overwhelming. So we've got you covered! Here's a look at our itinerary for four days and three nights outside of Iquitos, Peru.

Some quick tips:
-We highly recommend Maniti Expeditions! We loved our guide Alfredo and had a great experience overall.
-Stay for at least two but preferably three nights. It takes a while to get there, so one night isn't enough. But it is rustic, so unless you're used to roughing it, more than three nights might start to wear on you.
-Most tour companies provide rain boots, but they may not be in great shape. So bring plenty of extra socks or your own boots if you can.
-Other waterproof gear, such as ponchos and backpack covers, will come in handy.
-Bring a headlamp for night hikes!
-The bugs are no joke. Get your recommended vaccinations, bring plenty of bug spray and wear long clothes despite the heat.
-Bring cash to buy drinks and to tip your guide and staff.
-Don't drink the water, even to brush your teeth. And bring Imodium just in case some slips in!

AMAZON RIVER TRAVELING TO IQUITOS PERU BY CARGO BOAT

Iquitos is the biggest city in the middle of the Amazon River, more than half a million people live there. The only way to get there is either by plane or cargo boat. We decided to take the cargo boat since it was cheaper and seemed like more of an adventure. We started in the town of Yurimaguas and bought supplies like a hammock to sleep in, food, snacks, bowl (for food) and lots of alcohol since it is a 3 day boat ride. Also the reason I don't have you tube videos of the drive to Peru is because I lost a lot of footage when my hard drive crashed.

PERU. To Iquitos by boat (from Yurimaguas), docking at a local Amazon village

Iquitos is considered the largest city unreachable by road. Trips by boat on the Amazon river and its affluents can be made on local barges, it will take about 2.5 days to reach from Yurimaguas and 3 to 4 days to Puccalpa, depending on the river conditions.

TARAPOTO & YURIMAGUAS din PERU, cautand excursie in jungla amazoniana

TARAPOTO & YURIMAGUAS din PERU, cautand excursie in jungla amazoniana

Yurimaguas to Iquitos by Cargo Ship Gilmer V (Eduardo) Amazon River

Cruising down the Amazon cargo style! Yurimaguas to Iquitos, Peru
March 24 to 27, 2012

We spent one night in Yurimaguas, thankfully to have a shower after two days on numerous bus rides and because the boat we wanted to take didn't leave until the following day at 4pm. We headed down to the port about 2pm to board our boat, the Gilmer (part of the Eduardo family of boats). It was a blue and white cargo boat with three decks. The first is for all the cargo (mostly plantains, rice, chickens and fruit), the second is where most of the locals slept and the third floor was double the price so that's where the tourists end up. It was well worth the extra money to have a little extra space. It cost $100 soles (about $38US) for two nights, three days and meals. There were only about eight other tourists on board. We tied up our hammocks and locked our bags to a pole; ready to set off into the Amazon!

This video has lots of tips and prices if you are thinking of taking a cargo ship from Yurimaguas to Iquitos, Peru. Enjoy!
