Helsinki is the largest city in Finland and the metropolitan area is the home of 1.4 million people. When you look at a map, Helsinki is in the northernmost corner of the Europe but it is an easy hub to reach with fast flight connections from East to West. No flight? No problem. Helsinki can be reached from St. Petersburg, Estonia and Sweden via the Baltic Sea. In fact, the sea is one of the most characterizing elements of the city. The Helsinki Archipelago consists of over 300 mesmerizing islands.
The rhythm of Helsinki is laid-back and the city is easily approachable, literally. The public transportation system is one of the best in the world – with that one beautiful metro line – and it is also easy to walk and bike everywhere.
In addition to Helsinki, the capital region is made of a hub of other interesting cities and sights to visit. These include the neighboring cities of Espoo and Vantaa, the historical town of Porvoo, Järvenpää-Tuusula area – famous for its artistic heritage – as well as the ironwork villages west of Helsinki. There are 6 national parks less than 2 hours away from Helsinki and countless other nature sites to visit.

Ylöjärvi is a city with a population of 33,730.
Ylöjärvi is located northwest of Tampere on the shore of Lake Näsijärvi and is part of Tampere's urban area, Ylöjärvi's downtown area being part of Tampere's downtown area. It is 14 kilometers to Tampere, 189 kilometers to Helsinki and 164 kilometers to Turku. The Tampere–Seinäjoki line, highway 3 from Tampere to Vaasa and national road 65 from Ylöjärvi to Virro pass through Ylöjärvi. The railway, which was completed in 1971, has no passenger spaces in the Ylöjärvi area, so buses handle all public transport.
Ylöjärvi is a rural town. It has no clear center.
Among Ylöjärvi's attractions are Puuvuori, which represents environmental art and consists of 10,000 planted trees, and the Ylöjärvi Homeland Museum. The Homeland Museum includes 11 buildings, the oldest of which is from the 18th century. Ylöjärvi has four churches and two prayer rooms: Ylöjärvi church, Kuru church, Viljakkala church, Pengonpohja prayer room and Länsi Teisko church.

Sotaanlähdön muistomerkki
Tältä paikalta lähtivät Kivijärven miehet talvisotaan 10.10.1939 ja jatkosotaan 20.6.1941.

Muistomerkki sijaitsee Suomelan pihapiirissä entisessä suojeluskuntatalossa.
Nälkävuosien muistomerkki
1800-luvun suurten nälkävuosien muistomerkki sijaitsee Kivijärven Hannonsalmessa.
Lions Clubin ja Kivijärven kunnan 1985 pystyttämä muistomerkki on koottu Hannonsalmen ja Matalassalmen siltakivistä. Sillat rakennettiin 1800-luvun jälkipuoliskolla kruunun hätäaputöinä. Esim. Hannonsalmen siltaa tehtäessä vuonna 1868 nälänhätä oli pahimmillaan. Hätäapua annettiin sekä jauhomattoina että rahana. Kuntakokous määräsi siltatyömaalle mestarin, jonka tehtävänä oli arvioida ihmisten työpanokset ja maksaa kullekin ansionsa mukaan. Parhaat työntekijät saivat runsaan kilon jauhoja päivässä, kun kaikkein huonoimmat työntekijät saivat tyytyä puoleen kiloon. Varsinainen sillanrakennus oli ammattimiesten työtä ja palkkiot maksettiin rahana, mutta kivenhakkuut ja maanajot annettiin hätäaputöinä vähävaraisille.
