Yichang is a beautiful city in Hubei province, China. It is the second-largest city in the province after the capital, Wuhan. The Yangtze River runs through the city of Yichang, creating many natural reserves along its path. This valuable resource has made the city a valuable territory, and for this reason, it became a place contested by all strategists. Yichang was a famous battlefield throughout the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280). It is also the birthplace of many historical celebrities, such as Qu Yuan and Wang Zhaojun.

Yichang, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province, is a regional central city in the central region and a member of the Yangtze River Central River City Group, as approved by the State Council. As of 2020, the city has five municipal districts, three county-level cities, three counties, and two autonomous counties, with a total area of 21,000 km2. According to the results of the seventh national census in Hubei Province, the resident population was 40,176,007 as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020. The household population is 3,909,400 people, and the city's gross regional product reaches 502,269 million yuan in 2021.
Yichang is located in central China, southwestern Hubei Province, at the boundary between the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and is known as the gateway to the Three Gorges and the throat of Sichuan and E. Yichang was known as Yiling in ancient times, because of the name Yilong, which means the water is here and the mountains are here and the mountains are here; in the Qing Dynasty, the name was changed to Yichang to Yichang, which means to prosper. Yichang is the starting place of the Three Gorges of Yangtze River, the location of Three Gorges Dam and Gezhou Dam, and is known as the Hydropower Capital of the World; it is the hometown of Qu Yuan, the world's cultural celebrity, Rayon, the mother of the Chinese nation, Wang Zhaojun, the most beautiful woman, and Yang Shoujing, a modern celebrity. Yichang is an important comprehensive transportation hub in Hubei Province, with traffic arteries such as the Hanyi Expressway, Hanyi High Speed Railway, Jiao Liu Railway, and National Highway 318. Yichang BRT opened in July 2015, which is the longest single line, the most stations and the most technologically advanced BRT system in the country . April 2, 2017, the Yichang Area of China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone was officially inaugurated . July 20, 2020, Yichang City decided to implement a 2.5-day flexible vacation system

An overview of our China trip in 2008. We toured the north but our trip was cut short and so we didn't get to travel through the south as we had planned. Our trip started in Shanghai. Then to Yichang to board the boat for our Yangtse Gorge cruise. Then to Xian to Pingyao, to Datong and then to Beijing.

Finally, we get a chance to tour the three 3 gorges dam in Yichang China! The tour takes us to 3 locations in front of and behind the dam. The dimensions are sheer size of the thing are impressive and hard to take in any other way than a visit yourself. Along the way I try to explain some of the benefits and controversy regarding the dam and its significance to the country.

Taking a walk along the main street in the city of Yichang in China. Yunji road connects the riverside park next to the Yangtze river with the old train station in the center. On this morning, I experience the city life on a regular working day.
Yichang City in China has a population of 4 million people of which about 1.5 million live in the urban center. Most tourist only visit Yichang because the Yangtze river cruises usually end here. It's doesn't have a lot of attractions and is more of a industrial center.
Still, I like this city very much. People are friendly and the food is great.
