Yazd is located 270 km southeast of Esfahan and has a history of over 5,000 years, dating back to the time of the Median empire, when it was known as Issatis. The present city name, however, is derived from Yazdegerd I, a Sassanid ruler of Persia.

Because of generations of adaptations to its desert surroundings, Yazd has a unique Persian architecture and is one of the largest cities built almost entirely out of adobe. To deal with the extremely hot summers, many old buildings in Yazd have magnificent wind towers, and large underground areas. This is why the city is nicknamed the City of Windcatchers“.

We used our time in the city to explore the best things to do in Yazd by focussing on attractions and spots that are interesting for younger travelers paired with important landmarks like the Jameh Mosque. But we also got to try typical dishes from the region and the famous Yazd sweets to show you the whole spectra of Persian cuisine.

This part of the trip was executed within 4 days - following I list all the places I visited & Things to do in Yazd:

Yazd (Iran) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Yazd in Iran.
The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

The Best place to see Zoroastrians culture and history! IRAN (Yazd)

Here is the best place to see Zoroastrians culture and history!
The Yazd Markar Museum is known as the Museum of Zoroastrian History and Culture located in Markar Square in Yazd. It was opened in 2015 and has displayed the Zoroastrian religion and culture.
The complex includes an orphanage, a boarding school, an elementary school, a high school, and Markar Clock Tower in Markar Square.
When you walk into Markar Complex, you can see a magnificent and historic building which is located in the center of a very large courtyard with beautiful pillars connected to the Markar School. PATHS LESS TRAVELED

In the late summer of 2022 I embarked on an epic road trip around Iran, during a time of unrest as protests escalated across the country.

Covering around 6200km over 24 days, I was able to see this incredible country in a way that many are not fortunate enough to see, and to record my experiences in a way that has not been done before.

Safety concerns meant that I had to limit my filming on occasion, and stay well away from any signs of the troubles going on.

However, what I did see was an incredible insight. Some of the most wonderful and welcoming people, incredible history and culture, and mind blowing food.

Yazd Travel Guide - Top Places to Visit

City of windcatchers, and quiet and lovely afternoons, Yazd is a gem in the heart of ancient Persia. This historic city is evidence of how hardworking the people of deserts have been throughout history. Living in Yazd, one will wonder at how harsh natural elements have affected the lives of the citizens of the city. Looking at the city over a roof, or the famous Towers of Silence at the outlying suburbs of a town, you will think of how one the city is with its surrounding nature.

Top places to visit in Iran/ Yazd attractions/ Yazd province/ Zoroastrian silent tower/ Iran tourism

Based on ancient Zoroastrian beliefs, dead parts of physical body like clipped nail or cut hair are impure and unclean, ‘nasu’ as they say. Moreover, physical purity has a close connection with spiritual purity and as soon as the breath (the spirit) has left the physical body, it becomes pollutant, as it is contaminated by demons.

The corrupting influence of this process is considered to be spiritually dangerous; Consequently Zoroastrian people try to keep contagion away from their community as far as possible. In addition, according to Zoroastrians, fire, earth, air and water are four ‘sacred ‘elements and should be kept clean from any contagious or unclean material.
For this reason, instead of burying the corpse directly into the earth or burning it- which would also dishonor the fire like the earth-, they would apply another method as the funeral process of their loved ones’ dead bodies.

In the first place, they would wash the corpse of recently deceased with water and ‘gomez’ – which is bull’s urine- and after that, they would also wash the clothes and the place where the body would lie.

By putting the corpse over exposure of the sun and the air, Zoroastrians would use these sacred elements for purifying the dead body by creating a balance between ‘the good and evil forces’.

Meanwhile, prey birds would clean the bones of the corpse. This way, the impure body would vanish and the remaining bones would be moved into the well which is located in the center of the structure.

Yazd attractions and Wonders l TAP PERSIA

The City of Yazd is located in the deserts of Iran close to the Spice and Silk Roads. It is a living testimony to intelligent use of limited available resources in the desert for survival. Water is brought to the city by the qanat system. Each district of the city is built on a qanat and has a communal center. Buildings are built of earth. The use of earth in buildings includes walls and roofs by the construction of vaults and domes. Houses are built with courtyards below ground level, serving underground areas. Wind-catchers, courtyards, and thick earthen walls create a pleasant microclimate. Partially covered alleyways together with streets, public squares and courtyards contribute to a pleasant urban quality. The city escaped the modernization trends that destroyed many traditional earthen cities. It survives today with its traditional districts, the qanat system, traditional houses, bazaars, hammams, water cisterns, mosques, synagogues, Zoroastrian temples and the historic garden of Dolat-Abad. The city enjoys the peaceful coexistence of three religions: Islam, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism.

???????? BEST Places to Visit in Yazd, Iran 探索伊朗的吐鲁番,亚兹德有哪些值得看的地方? تور یزد | تور ایران | Iran | Yazd
This video is share about the city of Yazd. Yazd is the most distinctive desert city in Iran, but the water resources here are very rich, because there is a great water conservancy project underground in this city. For thousands of years, the city has never been short of water, and a kind of wind collector building can be seen everywhere in Yazd, which is a kind of building that can collect wind from all directions, making the whole house very cool. In addition, Yazd It is also the birthplace of Zoroastrianism and Persian culture. It is the city with the most cultural heritage in Iran, so it is very worth visiting~

Surviving in the Iranian Desert? (Yazd, Iran)

???? My JUST GO APP is here! Connect w/ travelers for free:
✅ SUBSCRIBE for more travel videos:

Could you survive in the middle of a desert as hot as Iran, with no electricity, limited water and temperatures often over 45C (113F)? Now try to imagine doing that in Iran, 1,800 years ago!

Here in Yazd, Iran -- I’ve learned the different methods for how ancient humans in this area survived dating back to the 3rd Century. To get water, they would dig a system of deep underground tunnels (up to 300 meters deep) to find wells, and somehow, find a way to funnel down the water into the towns.

It’s summer right now in Iran, and let me tell you, it’s BLISTERING HOT outside here. Reminds me of summers back home in Phoenix, Arizona. I cannot imagine the struggles these people went through to survive.

Putting the history aside, the old town of Yazd is stunning with the most beautifuly-crafted blue-tiled mosque and a thriving shopping scene at the bazaar!

Have you ever heard of Yazd, or been here to Iran before? Let me know in the comments below!
