This videos captures the scenic drive from Muscat to the Jabel Shams, the most famous mountains of Oman. Part of Hajar Mountain range, Jabel Shams offers a spectacular mountain and gorge view. The drive from Muscat to Jabel Shams is about 4 hours and the whole journey is an incredible experience.
I will be presenting this entire trip to Jabel shams in 3 parts. This is the first part where I am showing the experience of driving from Muscat to the resort where we stayed. In the second part of this trip I will be taking you on a tour of the resort.

Wadi Al Arbaeen is one of the most beautiful wadis in the Sultanate, experiencing a constant flow of water from the eastern Hajar Mountains and providing a source of irrigation to the surrounding villages and date palm farms. It is located around 90 minutes outside of Muscat, and three kilometres away from Wilayat Quriyat in the Eastern Hajar Mountains.

Wadi Damm / Wadi Dam / Wadi Dhum - Ibri - Oman
Wadi Damm / Wadi Dhum / Wadi Dam. This wadi goes by multiple names and likewise there are multiple trekking routes. So this was a long overdue trip and somehow I was still pretty confused about the best route to take. Unfortunately, the youtube videos and uploaders were not very helpful or clear in giving the exact location pins. I only seen this very informative article after our trip but this really sums it up in the best possible way. Link below
Here are some details from my end.
Video Timelines
0:13 - Parking Route 1
1:06 - Main water pools
2:37 - Dripping water falls
5:43 - Start of Route 2 and 3 Trek
5:48 - Take left path into the Wadi to start route 2 or take Path right up to start route 3
5:51 - route 2 into wadi
5:54 - wrong route but a worthwhile detour.
Just to be clear there are 2 very separate experiences when visiting wadi Damm, I have listed them into routes so its a bit clear.
Drive time from Muscat to parking route 1 : approx 3 hours. + 15 -20 mins off road to ROUTE 2 and 3 Parking.
ROUTE 1 :
Via the small dam and to the famous waterpools 1:06 and green dripping waterfalls 2:37 as seen in the video.
Approx Trek Time : 1.5 one way / Approx 2.5 - 3 hours round trip ( at a very leisure pace).
ROUTE 1 : ALTERNATIVE : FULL TREKK
After the dripping water fall, the wadi dries up and all the water pools end, but you can continue trekking ahead which will lead you to ROUTE 2 / ROUTE 3 ( see below) eventually but its another 1 -2 hours of trekking. If you do intend on opting to do this this route, its best you plan to do it one way and park another car at Route 2 / Route 3 parking lot. This entire trek from the start will takes approx. 2.5 - 3.5 hours 1 way.
ROUTE 2 :
(( this also applies for route 3) approx 15 - 20 minutes off roading ( but this is doable with a saloon car).
Seen towards the second half of the video of us trekking down, 5:43 (Start of Route 2 and 3 Trek).
So this was the tricky part that really confused us, we were running out of time and lost in a way, so we did not really make it to the main pools ..
You trek down from the parking lot, pin given above, stick to the left path when heading towards the canyon ( the right path over the hill takes you towards route 3 upstream).
Here are some youtube videos that show this route. The approx. roundtrip via this route is less than 1 hour.
ROUTE 3
Same parking lot as Route 2 ..
You will need to trek further ahead and not immediately into the canyon. stay on the right side and high ground. This donkey trail takes you to the first pool of Wadi Damm. The hike should be around 15-20 minutes on this path. This takes you upstream and you’d need to jump into the main pool of water (see video link below) This really seems like a very nice option and will surely be our next preferred route to the main waterfalls.

ROUTE 4 : After doing this trip I would really suggest to split the trek into 2 halves if you really want to discover the entire wadi.
* Complete Route 1 to dripping waterfalls and return to car : Approx 2 to 3 hours round trip
* Drive to route 2 parking lot ( 15 - 20 mins drive) and either do route 2 or route 3 to the upper Pools. Approx 1- 1. 5 hours round trip
This is a very easy wadi and our kids absolutely loved it.
WARNING : In the video towards the end where you see us in a huge cave, )5:54 - wrong route but a worthwhile detour), this is actually the wrong way so beware, you have to take a right as soon as you descend into the wadi , unfortunately all the videos showed this section of the cave and that further confused us .
