XILITLA. SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXIC0 - Hola Amigos! Welcome back to San Luis Potosi! This time you're getting 3 amazing points of interest in the Huasteca Potosina region in one video! Firstly, we check out the magic town, Xilitla, where we have the dish famous to the area - Enchiladas Huastecas con cecina (dried meat). MUSIC -

ALL MUSIC FROM EPIDEMIC SOUND

**EDWARD JAMES GARDEN INFO (WIKIPEDIA**
Las Pozas (the Pools/the Wells) is a surrealistic group of structures created by Edward James, more than 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level, in a subtropical rainforest in the mountains of Mexico. It includes more than 80 acres (32 ha) of natural waterfalls and pools interlaced with towering surrealist sculptures in concrete.

Las Pozas is near the village of Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, a seven-hour drive north of Mexico City. In the early 1940s, James went to Los Angeles, California, and then decided that he wanted a Garden of Eden set up . . . and I saw that Mexico was far more romantic and had far more room than there is in crowded Southern California. In Hollywood in 1941, his lifetime friend and cousin, Magic Realist painter Bridget Bate Tichenor, encouraged him to search for a surreal location in Mexico to express his diverse esoteric interests. In Cuernavaca, he hired Plutarco Gastelum as a guide. They came to know Xilitla in November 1945. Eventually, Plutarco got married and had four children. James was Uncle Edward to the children and frequently stayed with them in a house Plutarco had built, a mock-Gothic cement castle, now a hotel – La Posada El Castillo.

Between 1949 and 1984, James built scores of surreal concrete structures which carry the names The House on Three Floors Which Will in Fact Have Five or Four or Six, The House with a Roof like a Whale, and The Staircase to Heaven. There were also plantings and beds full of tropical plants, including orchids — there were, apparently, 29,000 at Las Pozas at one time — and a variety of small homes, niches, and pens that held exotic birds and wild animals from the world over—James owned many exotic animals and once even took his pet boa constrictors to the Hotel Francis in Mexico City.

Massive sculptures up to four stories tall punctuate the site. The many trails throughout the garden site are composed of steps, ramps, bridges and narrow, winding walkways that traverse the valley walls. Construction of Las Pozas cost more than $5 million. To pay for it, James sold his collection of surrealistic art at an auction.

Secret Places of Mexico: Tamul Waterfall, Edward James Gardens, Huasteca Potosina RV Mexico

We're exploring secret locations during this week's RV Mexico adventure, and you should add these to your planning list! Few Americans venture into the Huasteca Potosina region, which while away from the beaches and traditional tourist areas, boasts many waterfalls and fantastic outdoor activities.

Tamul, at a height of 340ft is the tallest waterfall in San Luis Potosi state. The teal blue waters flow downstream, collecting in caves (which we also explored) along the way. Our tour originated in Ciudad Valles, and coupled with lunch, this makes a perfect half-day excursion to one of the most beautiful places in Mexico.

Next we ventured to the gardens of Edward James near the town of Xilitla. Over 50 years ago, James sought out inspiration and architecture from around the world to create this one-of-a-kind art installation in the jungles above Xilitla. Like a cross between Indiana Jones, Alice in Wonderland, and Tomb Raider, structures rise and twist their way around trees, rocks, and waterfalls. Edward James and his team built his vision using modern concrete and rebar along with found materials to construct flowers and orchids that could stand the test of time.

A perfect companion to this roadtrip was the town of Xilitla. Built on a steep hill, the colonial town gives you two options: wind your way up the roads, or drive straight up the hill. We chose a little of both, and were rewarded with delicious tortas and Howard's favorite, Horchata!

XILITLA has a Surrealistic Garden! - Las Pozas | SLP, Mexico

Xilitla is Surreal! We really loved our tour at Las Pozas, a garden with concrete sculptures created by the British poet Sir Edward James. This is a garden like no others and is located in the rainforest of the Huasteca Potosina (San luis potosi, Mexico).

Xilitla is also famous for the coffee farms and the surroundings are very green. The town is quite cute so we will also take you on a short stroll around this pueblo magico.

SECRET Sculpture Garden in the Mexican Jungle?! | Las Pozas de Xilitla, Huasteca Potosina | Mexico

Hey guys! This week we visited a crazy sculpture garden in the Mexican jungle! Las Pozas de Xilitla (or the Edward James Surrealist Garden) is located in the Huasteca Potosina in Mexico and is a must visit location when in the area!

It was designed by Edward James, a wealthy English expat, and built by the local people of the region for him and it is just a wild mish-mash of crazy sculptures and dense jungle all combined to create a very unique place! The town of Xilitla is also a Pueblo Magico and a fun place to walk around and soak in the atmosphere!

Hope you enjoy the video :)

LAS POZAS Surrealist Garden ???? in XILITLA and exploring the SALITRE CAVE (Mexico Travel 2021)

???? May 4th, 2021 ▶️ The next amazing mountain village on my path was Xilitla in San Luis Potosi State. It is famous for Edward James' Las Pozas Surrealist Garden, which sadly had been a bit disappointing for me and I will explain to you why in this video. Next to the gardens, I also explored Salitre Cave full of green parrots! ???? Let me know what you think about Las Pozas in the comments if you have visited Mexico in 2021 as well.

PARADISE OF EDEN IN XILITLA, MEXICO

My journey around the world brought me to another amazing place, the sculpture garden Las Pozas in Xilitla, little town in the jungle of the state of San Luis Potosi in Mexico.

This garden was built in the last century by one extravagant person, British writer Edward James who fell in love with this area and chose to settle down there till the end of his days.

Incredible and unique place worth of visiting and spending some time there for reflection ...
