Amazing Things to Do in Xi'an & Top Xi'an Attractions

Discover with us the most amazing things to do in Xi'an & Top Xi'an Attractions. Ancient Xi'an was for almost 2,000 years the capital of 13 different imperial dynasties of ancient China. The first emperor unified China from his base in this area, thanks to which is also called the cradle of the Chinese civilization. It was this place, where there was the beginning of the ancient Silk Road and where the influence of the West and the East were mixed.
Among the attractions not to be missed is the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum. Each of the thousands of statues, of soldiers and horses, often in slightly larger-than-life size, is unique and all were meant to serve in the afterlife of China's first emperor. The collection dates to the 3rd century BC. The area is considered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world and one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century.
The old city is surrounded by massive city walls, built in the 14th century. They are approximately 14 kilometers long. It is one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved Chinese city fortifications in general. This place is great not only for history lovers but also for sports fans. You can walk along the walls, take part in the city marathon, which is organized in spring, and even go cycling.
In the old centre is the Bell Tower, the symbol of the city. Built-in 1384 AD, it is 36 meters high and is the largest and best preserved of its kind from the time of ancient China. Like the Chinese clock tower, in ancient times it was used for reporting the time and publishing news. It is open to the public and its beauty can be admired both during the day and the night. Another symbol of the city, the Drum Tower, built in the 14th century, is a short walk away. It is 34 meters high and is also open to the public. Unlike the Bell Tower, where the bell was struck at dawn, the drums of the Drum Tower were struck at sunset to signal the end of the day.
About 4 kilometers from the city centre, you can admire one of the most famous Buddhist pagodas in China, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It was built in the 7th century and later became a part of a large complex known as the Temple of Kindness and Grace. The complex once had 13 separate courtyards and contained 1,879 grand-looking rooms. Although the massive complex has not withstood the weather, wars, and earthquakes of old, the pagoda still stands on the site.
Near the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, in the North Square, you can discover the largest music fountain in Asia. It covers an area of approximately 110,000 square meters. The fountain and music show has many benches, the longest light strip, and the largest acoustic complex in the world. The most amazing thing is how the sound, light, water, and colors of the fountain blend harmoniously. This stunning show can be enjoyed especially in warm months several times a day, but it is the most beautiful at night. Don't forget to arrive 20 minutes early to find a good place to watch.

10 Best Places to Visit in China - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:

3 days in Xi'an - TOP Attractions Terracotta Warriors + more | CHINA

If you've ever dreamed of seeing the terracotta warriors, seeing the most well preserved ancient fortress in the world or simply eating some of the best hand pulled noodles then Xi'an needs to go on your travel bucket list.

We're joined by our parents who flew all the way from NZ for this special family trip. We made our way around some of Xi'an's most prominent landmarks. 3 days of adventure starting with visiting The Terracotta Army.

We have always wanted to see the terracotta army in Xian China. We were fortunate enough to see a few of the terracotta warriors in an exhibition shown at Te Papa (Wellington, NZ) not too long ago but seeing the actual terracotta warriors / terracotta army pit in Xi'an, China itself where they have been and still are being excavated is simply amazing.

Insanely crowded but it's a must visit attraction when in Xian China to visit the terracotta army.

Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum (Terracotta Warriors)
Address: Lintong, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, 710612
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30am–5pm

Xi'an is well known for its delicious Chinese noodles so we hit up a local restaurant for a bowl of mouth watering hand pulled Xi'an noodles. We both love Xian noodles so getting to have them in Xian China itself was so good!

We then visited the Small Wild Goose Pagoda sometimes also known as Little Wild Goose Pagoda which is one of two significant pagodas in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The other being the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Both pagodas are important Buddhist sites, dating back to the Tang Dynasty around 1,300 years ago.

Finally we took a walk along Xian's city fortress also known as Xi'an City Wall and Fortifications of Xi'an. It's the most complete city wall that has survived in China and also one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Definitely another must visit when in Xi'an China. We went closer to the evening and was able to enjoy and capture a beautiful sunset over Xi'an too.

Location: Around the city center of Xi’an
Four Main Gates: East Gate (Changle Gate), West Gate (Anding Gate), South Gate (Yongning Gate), North Gate (Anyuan Gate)
You can get your tickets at any of these gates.

The next day we visited one of the most famous mountains of China which is Mount Hua aka Huashan. The area is huge so there are multiple different routes you can take. We decided to go on a cable car up Huashan mountain for our parents' sake. The cable car line starts from Donggoukou to West Peak with a stop at White Sparrow Temple. The whole ride is about 4,211 meters (2.6 miles) long and takes about 20 minutes.

Later on that evening we return to check out Muslim Street as well as the Great Mosque of Xi'an. The Great Mosque of Xi'an despite it being a mosque is unique because of its ancient Chinese architecture. It's a nice quiet place to visit especially if you're needing a break from the super loud and busy Muslim Street.

Muslim Street in Xi'an is packed with a lot of streetfood, restaurants and souvenir stalls. Definitely another top place to visit when in Xi'an China. After a full day of adventure we find ourselves some more delicious hand pulled noodles because when in Xi'an, you must get as much Xi'an noodles as you can in you ????

Muslim Street
Address: Huajue Alley, Zhong Lou Shang Quan, Lianhu, Xi'an, China

For our final day our family went to Shaanxi History Museum. Shaanxi History Museum was the first modern national museum in China and definitely worth visiting if you enjoy learning about ancient Chinese history.

Address: 91 Xiaozhai E Rd, Xiao Zhai Shang Ye Jie, Yanta, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China
Hours: Tuesday - Sunday - 8am–6pm

Exploring Xian, China : Beyond the TerraCotta Warriors

Come with me as I explore the things to do in Xian. Xian is the capital of Shaanxi province. Home of the famed Terracotta Warriors! But there's so much more things to do in Xian. I didn't realise that here you can also hike Mount HuaShan, the most dangerous hike in the world! It's one of the craziest things I've done but so worth it. There's also the Yellow River, Hukou Waterfalls, the Ancient Walled City of Xian, Muslim Quarter, and so much more. Xian is definitely the place to go in China for ancient history and adventure.

ALL OF THE THINGS TO DO IN THIS VIDEO:

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (or Big Wild Goose Pagoda) - 1:00
A Buddhist pagoda built in 652 during the Tang dynasty. The surrounding parks are a great place to explore, with lots of very freaky looking statues around the trees. There is also a really good musical fountain show (the largest in Asia) that plays twice every evening in the summer. Best of all, it is absolutely free to enter!

Muslim Street - 1:40
The main food street area is known as Huimin Street or Muslim Quarter has a lot of great food (probably not the most vegetarian friendly though)

Tourist Bus to the Terracotta Warriors - 1:50
Don't bother with an expensive taxi, getting to the Terracotta Warriors from Xi'an Railway Station is easy. There are constantly buses leaving from Line 5 just outside the main entrance. Look for Bus 306. It only costs 24 Yuan and the journey takes about an hour.

The Terracotta Warriors - 2:00
The entrance fee is 150 yuan, which is pretty justified for a genuine wonder of the world. In short, it is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife. A real must see!

Xi'an City Walls - 2:37
The fortifications of Xi'an, also known as Xi'an City Wall, are one of the oldest, largest and best preserved Chinese city walls. It was built under the rule of the Hongwu Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang as a military defense system. You can cycle around them, walk or even take a short boat trip. It's a great way to explore the city if you are short on time. The entrance fee is 54 Yuan, which is not much for a minimum of a few hours worth of walking. Sunset here is awesome.

And that's it! I tried to keep this short and not overload it with too many options - it's a 24 hour travel guide after all! If you have ant questions, feel free to ask in the comments - I always reply!

Interesting Places - Xi'an (Shaanxi, China)

Video by Joshua Webb

Top 10 tourist attractions in China part2 | The Terracotta Army in Xi'an | Beautiful places

The Terracotta Army has laid underground for more than 2,000 years. However, in 1974, farmers digging a well uncovered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world. In 1987 it became World Cultural Heritage.

It is significant because the hundreds of detailed life-size models represent the army that triumphed over all other Chinese armies in the Warring States Period (475–221 BC), and who were the decisive factor in forming a united China. It raises interesting questions about why it was made, which await your consideration when you come face-to-face with soldiers of the past.
