The river IJssel is 116 km long, branching from the Neder Rijn (Lower Rhine) near Arnhem and flowing into the IJsselmeer near Kampen. The IJssel is connected to the Rhine and carries about one tenth of the Rhine's water. The Hanseatic towns of Hasselt, Kampen, Zwolle, Hattem, Deventer, Zutphen and Doesburg are the lovely pearls on the sparkling River IJssel that many describe as the most beautiful river in the Netherlands.

Alkmaar, Hoorn und Haarlem, drei wunderschöne niederländische Städte, zählen zu den Highlights der Region Nordholland.
Im Jahre 2019 machten wir eine Autorundreise in den Niederlanden. An einem Tag stand Nordholland auf dem Programm, wofür wir uns abwechslungsreiche Programmpunkte überlegten:
Zuerst besuchten wir Alkmaar u.a. mit seinem traditionellen und berühmten Käsemarkt (immer Freitags ab 10 Uhr!), anschließend die Hafenstadt Hoorn, nach der u.a. das Kap Hoorn, die Südspitze Südamerikas, benannt ist, und am Ende das idyllische Städtchen Haarlem unweit von Amsterdam gelegen.
Wir haben diese Tour von Amsterdam aus gemacht und es war wirklich gut an einem Tag zu schaffen. Die Stadtzentren sind bequem zu Fuß zu erkunden.
In diesem Video findet ihr die schönsten Impressionen der drei kleinen Städte, unterlegt mit meiner Klaviermusik. Ich hoffe ich kann euch die schönsten Seiten von Nordholland gut präsentieren und wünsche euch einen tollen und erlebnisreichen Aufenthalt in der schönen Region!

Alkmaar, Hoorn and Haarlem, three beautiful Dutch cities, are among the highlights of the North Holland region.
In 2019 we made a tour by car in the Netherlands. In one day, North Holland was on the program, for which we considered varied program points:
First we visited Alkmaar with its traditional and famous cheese market (always on Fridays from 10 am!), then the port city of Hoorn, after which the Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America, is named, and at the end the idyllic town of Haarlem, located not far from Amsterdam.
We did this tour from Amsterdam and it was really good to do in one day. The city centres are within walking distance.
In this video you will find the most beautiful impressions of the three small towns, backed up with my piano music. I hope I can present you the most beautiful sides of North Holland and wish you a great and eventful stay in the beautiful region!

Die meisten kennen die Stadt sicherlich wegen der Schlacht um die Brücke von Arnheim.
Obwohl die Stadt im zweiten Weltkrieg stark zerstört wurde, ist noch eine recht ansehnliche Zahl hübsch restaurierter Bauten zu sehen. Mein Film zeigt nur die Innenstadt, die zurecht zur schönsten der Niederlande 2007 - 2009 gewählt wurde. In der Stadt und deren Umgebung gibt es viele weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten..

Hoewel de stad werd verwoest tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog is sterk, maar toch een vrij groot aantal gerestaureerde gebouwen zien er ook. A full throttle passage, as Arriva's GTW-D passes me departing - Departure -
Back to Westervoort, where I set out to capture an ICE 3M, some Breng GTW-Ds and ofcourse some Arriva Gelderland GTW-Ds of the 4th generation of 2012. To which I take you today!
I positioned myself at the end of the platform leaning over the fence, well behind the safety line to get an action shot of the ICE 3M in the direction of Frankfurt. Wondering whether or not this would be a nice shot, I decided to take a test shot with one of the GTW-Ds departing; and the end result is what you see here today! Convinced of the angle and the shot, I stayed for the ICE which I shared with you guys, about a month back.
But now the shot itself; I was at the end of the platform, so why didn't the driver apply full throttle in the first place?! Well I guess the reasoning is obvious; the train itself stopped around 100m behind me at the platform, and the driver honest to god didn't know what someone would possibly be doing way back there, so he slowed down. The moment he saw me filming, he gave throttle and knew it was good.
Because of the sun, the lighting was pretty amazing as well!

Winterse treinrit langs de IJssel tussen Zwolle en Zutphen ????????❄️ - Rail Away ????
In deze aflevering van Rail Away, die op 30 december 2021 voor het eerst in het geheel op NPO2 te zien is, zijn we in Nederland. Als in februari 2021 Nederland ineens te maken krijgt met sneeuw en vorst, is dat voor Rail Away een gelegenheid bij uitstek om een sneeuwaflevering op te nemen in eigen land. Het resultaat is een aflevering langs de IJssel, van Zwolle naar Zutphen. Een aflevering met de nodige sneeuw- en ijspret.
Deze sneeuwaflevering begint op het geheel verbouwde station van Zwolle.
Terwijl de trein van de Nederlandse Spoorwegen de buitenwijken van de stad verlaat, zien we al wat er gebeurt als het in Nederland even vriest: de ijzers worden onder gebonden en we genieten van het koude winterweer.
De spoorlijn langs de IJssel kwam in 1866 gereed. Dat betekende voor steden en dorpen langs de rivier een grote vooruitgang. Tot die tijd werd de verbinding tussen de steden onderhouden met een stoomboot over de rivier en paardekoets over de weg.
Winter in Nederland betekent ook een grote opgave voor de NS en ProRail. Met de winterdienstregeling valt een deel van de treinen uit, terwijl andere treinen worden verlengd. Ook de ijsvorming onder treinen vormt een serieus probleem.
Na de dorpen Wijhe en Olst arriveert de trein in Deventer. De weidse omgeving gaat over in in een meer bosachtig gebied met statige landhuizen. De spoorreis eindigt in één van de oudste steden van Nederland: Zutphen.
