Onsen Papawaqa
The Onsen Papawaqa is a forceful work of modernist architecture directly overlooking the Wenshui riverbed. Its grey-hue exposed-concrete exterior walls, proudly and boldly showcased, echo the colors of the exposed cliff rock on the valley’s opposite side. Inside, two additional interior-décor elements are wood and stone, also chosen to echo the surrounding natural environment.
The key attraction here is, of course, the mineral-water soaking. Each room faces the river through floor-to-ceiling glass, with a window-side Japanese-style in-floor stone-slab tub. “The extensive public-area spa facilities are outside the main building; there are separate nude bathing areas for males and females, a non-nude mixed bathing area, and a wonderful cool-temperature narrow swimming pool that runs the entire main building’s length between building and riverside bluff-edge.” The evening starry-sky viewing is scintillating. In the midst of all this is a friendly, breezy thatch-roof open-air bar.
Both restaurants, on the 5th and 6th floors (the top floors), have eyrie-like views of the river before and mountain behind. The complimentary Chinese/Western buffet breakfast is taken in the 5th-floor Running Water Restaurant, which has a laddered spatial design evoking the river’s cascading waters. Lunch and dinner are served in the 6th-floor Flying Cloud Restaurant; the cuisine is Chinese, with strong Hakka and indigenous infusions, along with Western elements. Locally sourced ingredients are stressed. The Dongpo pork and sesame-oil chicken are especially good. (Rooms start at NT$7,500)

Gazing east from the Taiwan Hakka Museum, you can look down into the valley below and out over the hills toward the central mountains beyond. Just to the south, you’ll see row upon row of neatly spaced tea bushes. This is part of the 30ha tourist-oriented Tongluo Tea Factory operation. It’s centered on a factory/retail building of eye-catching modern design that offers a picture-perfect panorama of the valley through its east-side glass wall. Trains regularly run through the valley, through what looks like a model-train set. Patrons are helped in their train-spotting via a large signboard with run-through times and train types.
The main type of tea grown here is Dongfang Meiren (Oriental Beauty), which is primarily grown in Hakka areas in the hills of the northwest at lower altitudes (300~800m). Visitors can enjoy tea-tasting sessions, tours of the processing facilities and fields (in one interesting section, each row is dedicated to a single type of Taiwan-grown tea, with English signage), DIY picking for tour groups, and a meal. The latter consists of a traditional type of biandang (boxed lunch) eaten by Hakka tea-pickers and railroad workers. This comes wrapped in a gratis traditional bright-color Hakka-style head kerchief worn by female tea-pickers (separate payment for each option).

Walking Tour Around Shanghai Jing'an District | The Trendy District in Shanghai | Spring Tour 2023 ????

Hi everyone!

If you want to support my channel please do like and subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon to never miss video updates. ????

This 4K city walking tour video provides you a virtual experience of walking around the Shanghai's trendy Jing'an district. Enjoy the sights and listen to the natural sounds of the city. This is purely walking and no talking. Everything in this video is filmed on the location.

Jing'an District (Chinese: 静安区) is one of the central districts of Shanghai. In 2014, it had 1,180,000 inhabitants in an area of 37 km2 (14 sq mi).

The district borders the Hongkou District to the east, Huangpu District to the east and south, Putuo District to the west, Baoshan District to the north and Changning District to the west. On 4 November 2015 Zhabei District merged with Jing'an District, bringing Shanghai down to 15 districts and one county.

Jing'an District is named after Jing'an Temple, an ancient traditional Chinese Buddhist temple. Today's temple is a new replica of the old one, located in the southern part of the district. An Art Deco dancehall is just across the street; the neighborhood is largely residential, but with many bars and restaurants. Jing'an Park, located opposite the temple, is popular among locals; it used to be a graveyard for foreigners in the old Shanghai.

Historically, the northern part of the district, what used to be Zhabei, has been highly populated with working class residents. However, due to the shift in the structure of industries and increasing number of immigrants from outside Shanghai, partly due to its reasonable real estate prices (compared to its counterparts such as Putuo and Hongkou), the district has become increasingly appealing to city residents. China Resources Beverage, the distributor of C'estbon water, has its east China regional office on the twentieth floor of the Huanzhi International Building (环智国际大厦) in the district.

Jing'an is currently served by nine metro lines operated by Shanghai Metro:

Line 1 - Hanzhong Road, Shanghai Railway Station 3 4 , North Zhongshan Road, Yanchang Road, Shanghai Circus World, Wenshui Road, Pengpu Xincun, Gongkang Road
Line 2 - Jing'an Temple 7 14 , West Nanjing Road
Line 3 and Line 4 - Shanghai Railway Station 1 , Baoshan Road
Line 7 - Changping Road Station, Jing'an Temple 2 14
Line 8 - North Xizang Road, Zhongxing Road, Qufu Road 12
Line 10 - Tiantong Road 12
Line 12 - Hanzhong Road 1 13 , West Nanjing Road 2 13 , Qufu Road 8 , Tiantong Road 10
Line 13 - Hanzhong Road 1 12 , Natural History Museum, West Nanjing Road 2 12
Line 14 - Wuding Road, Jing'an Temple 2 7

Kara Loves Yiqinyuan Forest Resort Shanghai #wanderer #travel

Kara Loves Yiqinyuan Forest Resort

#Pandemic

We can't go back home to #Philippines. We are a bit tired of our city life so we decided to book a countryside villa on a budget! After looking around on #Koubei, #Fliggy, #Dianping and #Trip.com. We found the best!

#Chongming, formerly known as Chungming, is an alluvial island at the mouth of the Yangtze River in eastern China covering 1,267 square kilometers as of 2010. Together with the islands Changxing and Hengsha, it forms Chongming County, the northernmost area of the provincial-level municipality of Shanghai. Wikipedia

It's tricky because there is not much reviews online in English. I (Kara's Mom) want to know every detail to make sure our trip goes smoothly. Therefore, I used the #DidiChuxing APP and #Moovit APP to help me navigate the trip cost effectively. If we take the cab it will cost us 500++ RMB and 4 hours on the road. I was also tempted to take the ferry as it would take us half the time. However, as our date of departure nears the weather forecast was not getting better. On the day of our trip, there was a fog warning and all boat trips were cancelled ❌❌❌.

The bus trip was pretty straightforward. Get of at Wenshui Station from Line 1 and hop on the bus! That's what I thought! The next thing we need to know is how long will the total trip be? It is important especially when you have a child along with you. We need to make stops to fill in our tummies, take toilet breaks and be on time for the bus.

We left our home at around 10:30 AM, took a cab to Xinzhuang Station (30 RMB). Got on the train (6 RMB each = total 12 RMB) Kara is under 130 cm she travels for free. The ride to Wenshui station was an hour and 15 minutes.

We looked for a place to eat. There we found a turo-turo or a cafeteria where we had a humble lunch at less than 100 RMB ????????. Toilet breaks and off we go!

I just told the conductor at the station that we need to go to the Southgate Bus Station. There was another bus that will take you to Dongxing which was the first joint at the island.

With tummies full and bladder empty, we were ready to go. The bus didn't have any place for luggages ???? so the locals would tie their bags on the handle.

We have to go through an under water tunnel to get to Changxing Island. There was a pit stop there after an hour journey on the road. Then we have to go through a long bridge crossing the Yangtze River.

And... I thought from there it will take another hour. It took 3 hours more that's how huge the Chongming Island is. It is the 3rd largest island in China. It is part of Shanghai so we easily traveled without restrictions.

When we arrived, we needed to show our passport and give a deposit of 500 RMB. I used e-payment via #Alipay or #Wechat but they clearly stated that we will receive the deposit back in cash.

We were then led to our humble cottage by the lake. Actually it's a small river, but the room was very generous. It was between the forest and the water so it's a bonus. The place was so dreamy as you can see in the video. Yiqinyuan Resort itself has cedar trees.
We came in winter time but the smell of cedar was still in the air.

We had dinner at the resort and since we were tired from the road we had a good night sleep.

There was a cold storm warning the next day so after breakfast we quickly went to the nearby Dongping National Forest. It was under construction and getting prepped for Spring Flower Festival. We hired an electronic cart to take us around the massive forest.

We returned before lunch. We were told to move and our accomodation was upgraded to a Suite. It snowed that night and it was a staycation indeed. There was not much to do because of the weather.

The resort also had a pool, KTV, table tennis and more. Some are free but some for a minimal fee. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of space for all to enjoy.

We only had meals at the resort because there were none nearby. The price was also good and the food was definitely tasty. I bought a meal coupon in advance to save up on the cost. Worth it!

While we were waiting for our taxi to arrive, Kara fed the black swan at the lake.

The entire trip was very budget friendly, we wish to go their one more time.
