Is St Gallen worth visiting?
There are many things to see and do in this beautiful city, but the highlight really has to be a visit to the Abbey, Library and Cathedral of St Gallen. These magnificent buildings are on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list and are definitely worth a trip!
What is St. Gallen known for?
St. Gallen's most famous landmark is its Baroque cathedral with the Abbey Library, which houses some 170,000 documents – in part hand-written and over a thousand years old. The library probably also has Switzerland's most beautiful Rococo hall.
How do you get to St Gallen?
By road, the easiest way to reach St. Gallen from Zürich is to head toward Winterthur, then take the E60 east. If you have time, it can be pleasant to cruise on a lake steamer from Zürich to Rapperswil (a two-hour trip), then ride the train to St. Gallen by way of Uznach, Wattwil, and Herisau. The journey time between Zürich and St. Gallen is around 1h 5m and covers a distance of around 84 km.
What language is spoken in St. Gallen?
The official language of St. Gallen is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.

Why go to Appenzell?
Appenzell offers everyone time and space to relax and rejuvenate. There are nearly 55 km of winter hiking paths of varying lengths and difficulties, or 75 km of marked snowshoeing trails. All of them surrounded by evergreen forests and with views of the Alpstein and its most famous peak, the Säntis.
