Don't #1. Don't Call The Netherlands, Holland. Holland is actually only two of the twelve counties in The Netherlands.
Don't #2. Don't Think the Netherlands is Just Amsterdam. There are tons of other towns, cities and villages to visit. From the flowers in Keukenhof to the Beauty of Groningen.
Don't #3. Don't Be stupid with Drugs or Alcohol when you visit. The coffeeshops are world famous and you should never buy drugs off the street.
Don't #4. Don't just bite into hot food. The Dutch like their fried food hot as can be, so make sure you take a second to blow on it or else you might lose a few skin cells.
Don't #5. Don't Wander into the Bike Lanes in The Netherlands. Those bikes will get you.
Don't #6, Don't Take the Dutch Attitude Personally. The Dutch are very straightforward and will ask you anything. So don't be upset, just know that is just how they are.
Don't #7. Don't Forget to Bring a chip card with a PIN number for purchasing from person-less kiosks & shops.
Don't #8. Have coins with you so you can pick up a snack on the go.
Don't #9. Don't Be Surprised if you see all the Dutch Tourism Stereotypes when you visit. From wooden shoes to windmills to cheese to really tall people on bikes, you will see them.
Don't #10. Don't forget to buzz your train ticket card when you enter and exit the platforms/stations.
Don't #11. Don't Take pictures of the girls in the windows in the Red Light District.
Don't #12. Don't Take the Hop On Hop Off Bus in Amsterdam. The bus cannot go a lot of places in the historic center. You would be better off on the hop on hop off canal boat.
Don't #13. Don't think that Amsterdam is just the red light district. It is so much more with culture, food, art.
Don't #14. Don't forget to Bring a jacket. It will rain while you are there, even if it says sunny.

Duinrell & Eurocamp - For The Best Family Holiday in the Netherlands | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids

One of the key factors for coming to Europe on our 5 week trip back in 2013 was a company named EuroCamp. They are a travel agency with over 190 specially selected holiday parks across Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Croatia. The parks have a lot to offer to every traveller. From free kids' clubs to fantastic water parks, soothing spas to exhilarating sports, their parks are places where you will get a taste of what glamping or camping in style means.
Our last visit to one of their camps was in Duinrell, Holland and let us tell you it was spectacular! One thing that separates this park from the many others we’ve been to is that this park has an exciting amusement park offering over 40 rides and attractions and the best part is that all rides are free for the park guests. Staying at the camping site is great for both relaxation and adventure. The choices are endless.
Duinrell is located in the dunes of Wassenaar, near the beach and it’s packed with charming little stores, a few restaurants and it offers dazzling shows for both young and old. The city centre of The Hague is just minutes away and Amsterdam is only a 40 minute drive.

HOLLAND: De Horsten estate, Wassenaar 4K
With its 450 hectares, the royal estate De Horsten is one of the largest estates of South-Holland. It consists of three estates: Ter Horst, Raephorst and Eikenhorst. It is located at the periphery of Wassenaar (not far from The Hague).
Eikenhorst is not accessible to the public, but one can go for lovely walks in the other parts of the park. There are several signposted walking routes. Admission tickets can be bought at the ticket machine.
The founder of the estate De Horsten was Prince Frederik of the Netherlands (1797-1881). In 1838 he bought the sites Ter Horst and Raaphorst. Eikenhorst was acquired in 1845. Around 1865, the renowned landscape gardener Eduard Petzold was commissioned to merge the sites into one estate, while preserving the characteristics of the individual sites.
After the death of Prince Frederik, his daughter Princess Marie de Horsten inherited the estate. In 1903 the estate was purchased by Queen Wilhelmina. It has remained in the hands of the royal family ever since. In November 2017, Princess Beatrix donated the property to King Willem-Alexander.
Little remains of the original buildings. The castles Raephorst and Ter Horst and the original country house Eikenhorst have disappeared. However, the steward's house and a hunting lodge remain. The former royal hunting lodge (1863) now functions as a tea house: 'Theepaviljoen De Horsten'.

The SERINGENBERG is an artificial hill of twenty meters high, completely covered with lilacs.
The hill dates from the period after 1791-1792, when Twent was the owner of Raaphorst. Mr. Adriaan Pieter Twent was a wealthy mayor from Gouda, who at the end of the eighteenth century had deliberately sought the surroundings of The Hague to devote himself to national politics. He came up with the idea to build a sand hill on the edge of the old beach wall, with a view point and a winding path to the top. Former Queen Wilhelmina got inspiration for her paintings here.
The hill was planted with purple lilacs of the kind that also smell good. If one now climb the lilac mountain via the winding path, partly paved with old paving stones, you can see from the lilac bushes that they are very old.
The undersides of the shrubs are usually bare and tortuous in shape, because the leaves and flowers always seek out the light. Every year we have to wait and see how the mountain looks. The amount of frost, sun and precipitation in the spring influence the flowering. Usually flowering starts in May and lasts about 14 days.

Some of the rides likely to pop up include Lost Gravity, Goliath and Untamed at Walibi Holland, Baron 1898, Python and Joris en de Draak at Efteling and Fenix and Troy at Toverland.

Wassenaar is a small city in the Netherlands and very popular for estate houses (landgoederen). Located in the province of South Holland , Wassenaar boosts several hundreds of estate houses which dates back sometimes to the 14th of the 15th century. in these estate houses the rich and wealthy are living.
During a visit to Wassenaar it would be a good idea to walk around these estate houses as there is a special Wassenaar estate house walking tour. This walking tour in Wassenaar can be 6km,9km or even 12 km. You can adjust the tour according to your chosen duration. A 12 km Wassenaar walk is taking around 4 hours to complete while a shortened hike can be completed within 1.5 hours.
It is breathtaking to see some medieval castles like the castle de Wittenburg, het raadhuis and the Backershagen.

There are rumours that the 12th-century Romanesque church in Wassenaar lies on the spot where the Northumbrian missionary Willibrord once landed in the Netherlands; the high dunes to the west were not formed until later.
Wassenaar long remained an unremarkable little town, known only as the home of the House of Wassenaer. It only began to gain notoriety in the 19th century when Louis Bonaparte ordered the construction of the Heerweg (Army Road) between The Hague and Leiden, which forms the current Rijksstraatweg. In approximately 1840, Prince Frederik had the De Paauw (Peacock) palace built, where he lived for many years; it now serves as the city hall of Wassenaar.
With the construction of the railway between Rotterdam, The Hague though Wassenaar towards its final destination the coastal area of Scheveningen in 1907, the course of which now forms the Landscheidingsweg. Wassenaar became attractive as a residence for wealthy people from Rotterdam.
From September 1944 to March 1945 Wassenaar was one of launching sites used by the German Luftwaffe, commanded by SS General Hans Kammler for the V-2 rockets directed mainly towards London.[7]
On one of the main routes to the Wassenaarseslag, the main beach for Wassenaarders, a World War II bunker can be found. For safety reasons and the instability of the structure, it was sealed off to prevent entrance.
The American World War II and Korean War general Haywood Hansell, who helped plan the Allied bombing offensive against both Germany and Japan, lived in Wassenaar in retirement from 1957 to 1966.
In 1982 the Wassenaar Agreement between employers' organisations and trade unions in the Netherlands was signed here. This groundbreaking agreement helped in restraining wage growth in return for the adoption of policies to combat unemployment and inflation.
The Wassenaar Arrangement, a post Cold War era arms control convention, was signed here by forty member nations in May 1996.
