Exploring Wadowice (WYD 2016)
During World Youth Day 2016, in Krakow, Poland, our group was hosted in Wadowice. Wadowice is the village where Saint John Paul II was born and raised. We especially felt the connection to WYD and Poland as we walked in his footsteps everyday. It was a beautiful village with such warm and welcoming people. We attended catechesis there many days, attend festivals and concerts, and even went kayaking! (There will be a separate video of that experience coming next!) WYD was an experience I will never forget.

We visited Jhon Paul's II hometown
Wadowice is a town located 50 km from Krakowia. It is a city of 20 thousand inhabitants. It is famous for being the city where the Holy Father John Paul II was born. On our day trip we visited the central park, the Wadowice basilica, ate John Paul II's favorite cake and had pizza at an Italian restaurant. We also saw the inscriptions in the central park where the places and the years of the papal visits are written.

Seguiamo le indicazioni del navigatore; dopo aver fatto qualche stradina di campagna, ci troviamo difronte alla Wisla che è il fiume che passa anche a Cracovia, ma non vediamo nessun ponte

Dopo esserci ripresi dalle risate prendiamo il traghetto, una piccola imbarcazione dove possono salire tre automobili e via sull'altra sponda.
Arriviamo a Wadowice poco prima delle 10 per la visita alla casa di Karol Wojtyla.
Sotto una sottile, ma fastidiosa pioggia, ci mettiamo in fila per l'entrata. Ci aspetta una suora polacca che ci accompagna per la visita con un italiano stentato, ma comprensibile.
All’interno, purtroppo, non si può riprendere
La casa è quella dove, il 18 maggio 1920, è nato Karol Wojtyla. Qui ha anche passato l’infanzia e la gioventù.
Usciamo dalla casa dove ora si trova il Museo - Casa Familare di Giovanni Paolo II e entriamo nella vicina Basilica Minore.
Nella chiesa parrocchiale, oggi Basilica Minore, fu battezzato il futuro Papa Giovanni Paolo II
La piazza centrale è stata ristrutturata dopo la beatificazione di Giovanni Paolo II
In un locale abbiamo mangiato la famosa torta alla crema che il giovane Wojtyla adorava.

Karol Józef Wojtyła adopta el nombre de Juan Pablo II en honor a Juan Pablo I, muerto a pocos días de haber iniciado su papado.
¿Sabían que en Wadowice hay un postre especial que lleva el nombre de quien en vida fue Juan Pablo II? ¡Tienen que probarlo, pues les encantará!
También hay que decir que hoy en día Juan Pablo II es santo, pues fue canonizado. Hoy en la ciudad todo recuerda al antiguo Papa quien es el símbolo y el orgullo de Polonia.
