Czech Republic, Prague ???????? - walking to Park Podviní #184

Today i am in Czech Republic for work and i decided to go for a walk in Prague 9. I started at my hotel and made my way over to a nice park located very close. It was fun to see the differences between my country and Prague. Enjoy!

Podviní Park is a public park in Prague in the Vysočany and Libeň districts. It was created in the years 1997–1998, realized according to the designs of Stanislav Špoula, Miroslav Pacner, Petr Hořejš and Libor Culka. The dominant feature of the park is a stone fortification resembling a lizard, which is ruled by a ten-meter-high trunk of an old oak tree with its roots turned upwards. The park is bordered on the south side by Rokytka, into which flows from the park an artificially created system of streams through which the park is interwoven and which flow from the lake below the fort. The streams with small bridges create a pleasant atmosphere of the whole park. The park is equipped with numerous benches and places to relax. There are several playgrounds, on the eastern edge of the park there is a rope center.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has the most populous urban area in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. 1 million people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Outside the city to the east, and along the coast, is the island chain of the Stockholm archipelago. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the county seat of Stockholm County.

Vysočany is a part of Prague in the Prague 9 administrative district (partly in Prague 3), Czech Republic. It lies in the eastern part of Prague around the valley of the Rokytka River.
The first recorded information about Vysočany was from 1115 when Duke Vladislav I. gave Vysočany vineyards to the Kladruby monastery.
In 1896, Emil Kolben, a crucial Czech engineer and entrepreneur (former employee and friend of Thomas Edison), founded its factory, which later became famous as ČKD. This strongly influenced Vysočany as a heavily industrial district of Prague.
In 1902, the emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria awarded Vysočany the city title and the right to use its coat of arms.
1911 - Vysočany Town Hall was built
In 1922 - Vysočany became part of Prague.
In 1939 - after the Nazi invasion of Prague. The majority of industrial production had to be refocused on military production to support the Nazi-Germany war.
In 1942 - several families from Vysočany were involved in Operation Anthropoid (assassination of Reinhard Heydrich)
In 1945 - during the end of World War II, the district was heavily damaged during the Bombing of Prague. The targets were factories that were forced to produce military material.
In 1968 - after the invasion of Russian armies - there was a special convention of the Czechoslovak Communist Party held in Vysočany, which strongly condemned the invasion of the Soviet troops.
Since the 1990s - the new era after the Velvet Revolution saw Vysočany transforming from a heavily industrial district to a new modern residential part of Prague. A big part of construction is focused on the brown-fields after former factories.

Prague Travel Guide - ِAn European Glamorous Experience

Prague Travel Guide - European Glamorous Experience

Prague is the capital city and largest city in the Czech Republic. It is one of the largest cities of Central Europe and has served as the capital of the historic region of Bohemia for centuries. The city is famous for it's unique medieval architecture, the historical centre of Prague is inscribed in the World Heritage List. it's known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colorful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show. Completed in 1402, pedestrian Charles Bridge is lined with statues of Catholic saints.

This magical city of bridges, cathedrals, gold-tipped towers and church domes, has been mirrored in the surface of the swan-filled Vltava River for more than ten centuries. Almost undamaged by WWII, Prague's medieval centre remains a wonderful mixture of cobbled lanes, walled courtyards, cathedrals and countless church spires all in the shadow of her majestic 9th century castle that looks eastward as the sun sets behind her. Prague is also a modern and vibrant city full of energy, music, cultural art, fine dining and special events catering to the independent traveler's thirst for adventure.

It is regarded by many as one of Europe's most charming, colorful and beautiful cities, Prague has become the most popular travel destination in Central Europe along with Vienna and Krakow. Millions of tourists visit the city every year.

Prague was founded in the later 9th century, and soon became the seat of Bohemian kings, some of whom ruled as emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. The city thrived under the rule of Charles IV, who ordered the building of the New Town in the 14th century - many of the city's most important attractions date back to that age. The city also went under Habsburg rule and became the capital of a province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1918, after World War I, the city became the capital of Czechoslovakia. After 1989 many foreigners, especially young people, moved to Prague. In 1992, its historic centre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into two countries and Prague became capital city of the new Czech Republic.

For purposes of this guide, the old district system is used. In this old system, Prague is divided into ten numbered districts: Praha 1 through to Praha 10. If you encounter a higher district number, a different system is being used. For example, Praha 13 is part of the old Praha 5 district. The advantage of the old system of ten districts is that it is used on street signs and house numbers throughout the city, so you can always easily determine the old system district you are located in.

Public transportation is very convenient in most of the areas visitors are likely to frequent. One key thing to note if you are staying outside of the the city centre is that public transport buses do not enter the historic districts (Old Town, New Town, Lower Town, etc.), so as to prevent air and noise pollution. One must transfer to a cleaner and quieter electric-powered tram or a metro before reaching historic areas.

Prague is renowned as a very walkable city. For those who enjoy seeing the old and new city by foot, one can easily walk from Wenceslas Square to the Old Town Square, or from the Old Town to Charles Bridge and the Castle District.

Prague Sightseeing By Foot

We're off to some Prague Sightseeing by Foot. The beautiful romantic city of Prague is very easy to get around by walking, especially if you include a little bit of public transport.

We were tempted to pay for a hop-on-hop-off style bus tour. But we had done these in Budapest and Vienna and wanted to try something different. This time we chose our sightseeing on foot, with some public transport thrown in to cover some of the longer distances.

We just love seeing Unesco World Heritage sites, and with a bit or research, we learned of 2 in central Prague. And at the top of our list was the historic old city center. Second is Prague Castle.

Our first stop was to see the famous Astronomical Clock. This is a special clock with dials and mechanisms to show astronomical information such as positions of the sun, moon, constellations, and planets. It’s the third oldest astronomical clock in the world, and the oldest one still operating. It was built way back in the 15th century! Every hour there is a show when a skeleton as the figure of death strikes the bell. Above this scary figure is a procession of the apostles and other figurines. We were lucky enough to see this show at 12:00, so we saw the maximum number of chimes.

The great thing about the Astronomical Clock is that it is located in the Prague Old Town Square. This is the World Heritage site we were wanting to see. We strolled around here for a while, taking in the old gothic and Baroque architecture of the medieval churches. This spare dates back to the 14th century and still shows its medieval nature. We were also entertained by many street performers and some magnificent old statues.

Krejcárek (Žižkov, Vysočany)
Maps:

Best Countries in the world to live

Best Countries in the world to live.
The city-state of Singapore is officially the best country in the world to live and work in as an expat. Stability is a major concern while living away from home, especially when families are involved, and Singapore rates very high when it comes to safety on a political, economic, and personal level. Three quarters of expats feel like the country's economy will remain strong, four in five feel safer than they did at home, and 89 percent are confident about continued political stability. Sure, there are the numbers. But, what about the katong laksa, chili crab, and bak kut teh? Let's be real—the actual reason expats love Singapore so much lies within the culinary paradises of its hawker centers, right
New Zealand comes in as the runner-up, largely in part to its number one spot in the Experience section of the survey, which involved questions about the expat's quality of day-to-day life, how easily they've integrated into society, and the ease of finding accommodation and getting settled. In all those measurements, Middle-earth comes out on top, as respondents report an easygoing, friendly environment, with the added benefit that from mountaineering to kayaking, there's just so much to see and do. In fact, New Zealanders working abroad miss their country so much, that there's a hotline devoted to curing homesickness.
The only North American entry into the top 10—the U.S. sits way down at number 30—Canada is close to the top, with expats particularly praising the country's culture of tolerance (69 percent said that the country was more welcoming to people of different backgrounds than their own) and safety, with 66 percent saying they felt more secure in Canada than back home. In fact, living in Canada is so nice that 80 percent of expats report living there for longer than five years and three-quarters of them reporting that they own property there. This may be surprising, but ask yourself: Surrounded by all that natural beauty, would you leave
The Czech Republic—or is it Czechia?—catapulted into the top five of HSBC's Expat Explorer results, up from 18th last year. Expats mostly cite the quality of education and other metrics related to family life as the reason why: When it comes to family life, the Czech Republic is second to only Sweden. But the central European country has the upper hand in other categories, especially when it comes to more intangible things like lifestyle and culture.Money can't buy you happiness, but if it's what you're looking for, Switzerland is a pretty good place to start. When it comes to economic indicators, it leads the pack. On average, expats in Switzerland earn a hefty $188,000 a year and more than half (56 percent) report being able to build long-term investments and savings faster than the global average. Considering Zurich is among the most expensive cities in the world, you'll need that extra cash for the long weekend trip to the Alps you've got planned.

Czech Republic Prague in 4k Walk: Streets of New Town (Nové Město) quarter ???????? HDR ASMR

Today in our Czech Republic Prague in 4k Walk, we will move along the streets of the city quarter New Town. We will be accompanied by beautiful city views, the Vltava embankment, the Dancing House, and more.

The New Town (Czech: Nové Město) is a quarter in the city of Prague in the Czech Republic. New Town is the youngest and most prominent of the five independent (from the Middle Ages until 1784) towns that today comprise the historic center of modern Prague. New Town was founded in 1348 by Charles IV just outside the city walls to the east and south of the Old Town and encompassed an area of 7.5 km², about three times the size of the Old Town. The population of Prague in 1378 was well over 40,000, perhaps as much as twice that, making it the 4th most populated city north of the Alps and, by area, the 3rd largest city in Europe. Although New Town can trace its current layout to its construction in the 14th century, only a few churches and administrative buildings survive. There are many secular and educational buildings in New Town and especially magnificent gothic and baroque churches. These, nevertheless, are not the main drawing points for tourists. New Town's most famous landmark is Wenceslas Square, originally built as a horse market and now functions as a center of commerce and tourism. In the 15th century, the Novoměstská radnice, or New Town Hall, was the site of the first of the three defenestrations of Prague.
No doubt, in connection with his coronation as king under the Holy Roman Empire in 1346, Charles IV decided to found a new city in Prague. After he had achieved the city's independence within the church with the creation of the Archbishopric of Prague in 1344, the foundation of the New Town was intended further to enhance the status of the city, which was the new residence of the king. In addition, the housing problem within the city walls of Prague that had already been apparent under Charles IV's father, John of Luxembourg, was crying out for a solution. Many people, mostly poorer Czechs, had settled in the suburbs situated at the base of the city walls, and the banks of the Vltava were almost continuously built over.
What was original about Charles IV's action was that he chose, instead of creating an administratively dependent suburb, or an extension of the old town, as was the usual practice, to develop in the New Town an independent royal city with its own legal framework. Nevertheless, Charles planned a physical and legal union with the old part of town and decreed a joint administration in 1367; however, primarily due to the opposition of the two town councils, this failed and had to be abandoned as little as ten years later. After many rights and liberties had been granted to the inhabitants of the new city, the inhabitants of the old part of town, which was now enclosed by the New Town on all sides, likewise had their existing rights and liberties confirmed in writing. They were given the assurance of free access through both the northern gates of the New Town. Together with the establishment of the New Town, the king made further efforts to increase the town's significance. It was not only to be the new residence of the king and a center for scholarship - on 7 April 1348, Charles University was founded as the first university in central Europe - and for the arts, but it was intended to become an important economic center in Central Europe. To that end, a shift of Central European traffic routes and the creation of new roads was planned, making the Vltava navigable; and the plans had been carried out to some extent. The construction of the New Town was probably essentially complete as early as 1367, at the time of the short-lived union with the Old Town.

4k Prague walk: Koněvova street at Žižkov district, Czech republic ???????? HDR ASMR

In this 4K Prague walk, we will move along Koněvova street, in the Žižkov district. Now here, work is underway to reconstruct buildings, build new ones and improve roads. Finally, the old district, with not the best reputation in the city, takes on a new face.

Žižkov is a lively neighborhood that attracts crowds of students to its numerous pubs. Well-dressed diners sip cocktails against a panoramic backdrop in the bar of the futuristic, communist-era Žižkov TV Tower. Vítkov hill, topped by the monumental National Memorial, also offers sweeping views. Franz Kafka, the author of The Trial and The Metamorphosis, is buried in the New Jewish Cemetery.

old style open air sigtseeing cars in Prague, Czech Republic

We saw these types of old style, open sightseeing cars all over Prague while we were there in early July of 2017. Looks like they would have been good for sightseeing at low levels--a bus I think would provide better views, but these would be good for street level views and street scenes. We didn't take one. In hindsight, I wish we had. I think would have been interesting.

Prague 4k walking tour: from Karlín Square to Republic Square ???????? Czech Republic HDR ASMR

On today's Prague 4k walking tour, we will go from Karlin Square to Republic Square.

04:30 Sokolovská is an essential street in Prague. It connects Nové Město, more precisely the Florence area, with Karlín, Libní, and Vysočany.
The street was founded in 1817 under the name Hlavní, as it was the main road of the newly established Karlín. In 1841 it was renamed Královská in honor of the coronation procession, which passed through the street on the occasion of the coronation of the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I.
