Virrat in Finland: Herraskosken kanava(4K video)
Herrasrapid channel is located in Virrat and combine Vaskivesi and Toisveden lakes. Channel built between 1903-1907, and it has a length of 825 meters. The seal length is 40 meters, width of 7.7 meters and a depth of 1.8 meters. Reverse channel exceeds a bridge (a clearance of 5.1 meters), and the solid road bridge (underpass height 7.0 meters). [1] [2] It was converted to automatic 1978. [3]

Hiking the Pirkan Taival part 2: Virrat - Ähtäri
A couple of years ago I made a series of hikes with two objectives, and this video is the second one in the series. I wanted to learn how to lessen the weight of my hiking setup and test my skills related to lightweight hiking. Also I wanted to explore the trail network of Pirkan Taival; we started walking these trails about 25 years ago with my brother and I wanted to continue exploring them now. Sometimes the old trails are almost disappeared, and sometimes they are in good condition with regular maintenance:)
This time I hiked along the Pirkan Taival -route from Toriseva, Virrat to Ähtäri Zoo. Total distance was 72 km in about 49 h.
Base weight around 4,2 kg; Total pack weight 8,9 kg in the beginning, added 1,5 kg of water on the way. Skin out weight 11,8 kg. HMG Summit, STS hammock, UL quilt from Cumulus + tarp. 2 x thin foam mat, light thermal jacket. Initially 3,5 L of water; bought 1,5 L bottle extra on the way. Refilled from open tap and from a spring. I am now starting to get in to the ultralight pack weights:)
Hot weather, over 30 deg. C. No rain, lots of mosquitoes and horseflies, saw also a venomous snake (kyy / vipera berus). Followed an old railway, interesting route to walk on. Lots of strawberries!

This time I hiked along the Pirkan Taival -route from the center of Virrat to the village of Kuru. Total distance was 73 km in about 45 h.
Moderate weather during the day (10 - 20 deg. C, a bit windy) and a bit cold at nights: 1st night around 6 deg C, 2nd night close to zero (in Virrat it went down to -4 deg. C according to the weather data). Slept first night in UL hammock with 2 x 3 mm EVA foam mat. Not warm. Second night slept in a laavu with foam mats + hammock, tarp etc in between. Also not warm / comfortable. Baseweight around 3,5 kg.
