There's a German town in Argentina - actually two! Villa General Belgrano and La Cumbrecita were supposed to be a holiday from Cordoba for me, but I decided to film this travel vlog because this is one of the coolest travel experiences I've had in Argentina so far.

Visiting Villa General Belgrano in Córdoba, Argentina
One of the more quirky towns you can visit in Argentina is Villa General Belgrano. The town itself, of recent German roots, feels like something straight out of Bavaria, Germany. Here you'll find Schnitzel, sauerkraut and craft beer. Along with the ample opportunities you have to purchase souvenirs one of the nicest features of this place is that you're never far from nature. With many scenic paths to explore you can quickly move away from the tourist center. Overall, it was great visiting here because it is nearby where Audrey grew up as a child. Don't think it is cheap here. The prices, as of today, are rather expensive (think Europe and North America) and we left spending a lot more than we anticipated; however, we found some bargains with items such as ice cream and wine.

Visiting Villa General Belgrano in Córdoba, Argentina Travel Video Transcript:
Well, welcome to Germany. Or should I say the Germany of South America. Today we're visiting a town called Villa General Belgrano which has very German roots. Like walking around here you're almost feeling like you've been transported back to Bavaria. And this is a town that I'm very familiar with because I actually grew up in a local village that was only 30 minutes away from here. So we're going to be taking a little tour of the town. I'm excited to show Sam around. And maybe we'll try a few German delicacies. Some beer, pastries, who knows. We'll see what is on the menu.
So this is kind of a cool sign because it shows all of the different festivals that happen here throughout the year. And we have a Christmas fair, an Alpine chocolate festival, a Viennese pastry festival and also Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest. Where they drink beer in their giant pints. Prost!
So it is early evening now. About 7 or 7:30 pm and we're visiting a little craft market in the town. And they have a lot of really strange and unique things here. Like we've seen dinosaurs, you buy mate, you can jewelry, musical instruments. It is just very artsy. I'm seeing lots of fairies as well. I bet you're wondering if they are real or not. Oh yeah, that is what I've been pondering all day.

So we are now in the ecological park. Yeah, and it is just like a turnoff from the main strip. It is amazing how within five minutes you're away from the touristy area and you're out experiencing greenery and an escape from the hustle and bustle. Yeah, can you hear the sound of the stream. The sound of nature.
So since we're in such a German town that means we have to have a beer, right? Yeah, apparently you get kicked out of the town if you don't have a beer. Oh ho! So yes, we're waiting for our drinks. We ordered Chopp. I'm having a blonde, you're having red. And I'm thirsty. Hmmm, good.
Ready for your ice cold craft beer? Rojo! I think it is really funny that you ordered the red beer and you're a red head and I ordered the blonde one. We didn't even mean to do that did we. Haha, the joke is on us. This beer is great. This is local craft beer and it has been really hot today so this is very refreshing.
Okay, so Argentina is not very cheap right now but there is one thing that is super affordable. And that is...that is ice cream. Ice cream. Ice cream and wine at the current moment are cheaper than water. So we've been eating a lot of that and drinking a lot of wine. And I have one of my favorite flavors here. I have dulce de leche ice cream con brownie. So it has a brownie as well. Brownie chunks in there...oh la lah.
So Sam, you've had a couple of days here Villa General Belgrano. What are your impressions of the place so far? Yeah, it's a fun quirky town. Definitely geared towards tourists. Like you said, it feels like it is straight out of Bavaria. It is kind of a bit of a fantasy land. It is fun. I love that it is in the woods. It is near nature. You can go for lots of scenic walks. And I also like that they have really good German food and awesome craft beer.

GERMAN FOOD IN ARGENTINA! + Town Tour of VILLA GENERAL BELGRANO, Córdoba
Greetings from Villa General Belgrano! In today's video, we take you on a tour of this German town in the province of Córdoba, plus we also try German food at Blumen.
Villa General Belgrano is a mountainside town in the Calamuchita Valley in the Province of Córdoba that was founded by Germans in 1930 and soon attracted immigrants from Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria. Today, the town has a distinct Alpine architectural style with wood-frame homes, and it's also managed to maintain its German culture, which is really visible through its food! Restaurants serve up German dishes and there are also lots of micro-breweries for those looking to sample the beer. This town also hosts the biggest Oktoberfest outside of Germany!
We ate at Blumen where we tried pork cutlet with mushrooms and gravy, chucrut (sauerkraut with bacon), boiled potatoes with parsley, caramelized apples and peas. We paired this with a blond beer and a red beer from the local Berlin brewery. For dessert, we went with a classic and tried the Apfelstrudel, which is a delicious a pastry stuffed with apples, nuts, raisins.

GERMAN FOOD IN ARGENTINA! + Town Tour of VILLA GENERAL BELGRANO, Córdoba:
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a travel vlogging couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world.
We had the privilege of traveling around Argentina for nearly 3 months from January- April 2019 on a trip covering a large section of the country.
We kicked things off with several days in Buenos Aires where we were joined by Audrey's parents eating and sightseeing around some of our favourite neighbourhoods in the city. We then flew from Buenos Aires to Cordoba where we spent a couple of weeks in the Sierras of Cordoba visiting both La Cumbrecita and Villa General Belgrano with highlights including hiking and delicious German and Swiss cuisine.
From Cordoba, we then travelled a considerable distance on an overnight bus to Mar Del Plata just in time for a special food festival called Feria Masticar featuring the best of Argentine food and wine. We spent several days enjoying beaches and seafood before heading south to Patagonia to visit the province of Chubut.
While on the Atlantic side of Chubut we visited Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes, Trelew, Gaiman and Dolavon. To summarize our time in this area, we had incredibly close encounters with wildlife including penguins, sea lions and guanacos while also experiencing Welsh culture in Argentina.
Our time in Patagonia continued as we headed from east to west trading more barren landscapes for thick forests, impressive mountains and magnificent lakes. We spent significant time in both Esquel and El Bolson with day trips to visit Trevelin, Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Cholila and Lago Puelo. Highlights included sailing, hiking, riding vintage trains and partaking in the national asado festival.
We finished visiting Patagonia with time spent in Villa La Angostura, San Martin De Los Andes and Bariloche where we enjoyed more stunning scenery and hiking. On our way back to Buenos Aires, we took the Tren Patagonia to Las Grutas before meeting up with Audrey's dad again.
To finish off our trip in Argentina, we spent more time in the capital and later Mendoza where we got to experience wine tourism to its fullest extent. Overall, we had an amazing time travelling around Argentina having only scratched the surface of this vast and diverse country.
Overall our Argentina travel series explores cities, small towns that are off-the-beaten-path, and scenic attractions with a strong emphasis on Argentina cuisine and local culture.

However, before leaving breakfast and an accommodation tour of our cabin in La Cumbrecita was our first priority.
The bus from La Cumbrecita to Villa General Belgrano was a short but scenic journey. Upon arrival we dropped of our bags at our new place and went into town in search of food. We food a nice little spot specializing in pizza where we devoured a nice meal before heading back to our place to enjoy a bit of pool time.

La Cumbrecita to Villa General Belgrano Travel Vlog | Córdoba, Argentina:
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a travel vlogging couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world.
We had the privilege of traveling around Argentina for nearly 3 months from January- April 2019 on a trip covering a large section of the country.
We kicked things off with several days in Buenos Aires where we were joined by Audrey's parents eating and sightseeing around some of our favourite neighbourhoods in the city. We then flew from Buenos Aires to Cordoba where we spent a couple of weeks in the Sierras of Cordoba visiting both La Cumbrecita and Villa General Belgrano with highlights including hiking and delicious German and Swiss cuisine.
From Cordoba, we then travelled a considerable distance on an overnight bus to Mar Del Plata just in time for a special food festival called Feria Masticar featuring the best of Argentine food and wine. We spent several days enjoying beaches and seafood before heading south to Patagonia to visit the province of Chubut.
While on the Atlantic side of Chubut we visited Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes, Trelew, Gaiman and Dolavon. To summarize our time in this area, we had incredibly close encounters with wildlife including penguins, sea lions and guanacos while also experiencing Welsh culture in Argentina.
Our time in Patagonia continued as we headed from east to west trading more barren landscapes for thick forests, impressive mountains and magnificent lakes. We spent significant time in both Esquel and El Bolson with day trips to visit Trevelin, Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Cholila and Lago Puelo. Highlights included sailing, hiking, riding vintage trains and partaking in the national asado festival.
We finished visiting Patagonia with time spent in Villa La Angostura, San Martin De Los Andes and Bariloche where we enjoyed more stunning scenery and hiking. On our way back to Buenos Aires, we took the Tren Patagonia to Las Grutas before meeting up with Audrey's dad again.
To finish off our trip in Argentina, we spent more time in the capital and later Mendoza where we got to experience wine tourism to its fullest extent. Overall, we had an amazing time travelling around Argentina having only scratched the surface of this vast and diverse country.
Overall our Argentina travel series explores cities, small towns that are off-the-beaten-path, and scenic attractions with a strong emphasis on Argentina cuisine and local culture.

De linaje alemán y a 80 Kilómetros de Córdoba capital podes visitar Villa General Belgrano, una ciudad de construcciones Bávaras y rodeadas de sierras, muy cercana a Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, Embalse y La Cumbrecita.
Sus orígenes son alemanes, ya que unas cuantas familias oriundas de ese país europeo, convirtieron a la Villa en la mayor Colonia Argentina de alemanes, suizos, italianos y austríacos, los que trajeron consigo toda su cultura y tiñeron la localidad con la misma.
Un hecho llamativo es que su nombre original no fue el que lleva actualmente. El cambio se produjo porque durante la segunda guerra mundial, en 1941, sus pobladores quemaron la bandera argentina, y en honor a su creador, la legislatura cordobesa dispuso que el pueblo se llame Villa General Belgrano, en vez de Villa Calamuchita, nombre que recibió en 1937, ya que antes se llamó Paraje El Sauce.
Durante el mencionado periodo de guerra, llegaron 125 marineros del acorazado Admiral Graf Spee que había sido hundido en el Río de la Plata cerca de Montevideo. Estos marineros se integraron a la sociedad. En aquel momento se culpó a tres marineros de ésta embarcación por haber quemado la bandera que unos años después significó el cambio de nombre de la ciudad. Sin embargo, tal imputación, no fue esclarecida.
Los primeros colonos llegan esencialmente a partir de 1929, con Paul Friedrich Heintze a la cabeza, que compro junto a Jorge Kappuhn, terrenos que loteó y luego ofreció para la venta solo a familias alemanas. Comenzaron con la compra de 300 hectáreas para totalizar más de 2000. Como en 1931 se establecieron los primeros colonos, se dispuso como fecha fundacional, el 11 de octubre de 1932.
Para 1935 ya habían llegado más colonos que le comenzaron a dar la impronta a la ciudad que tiene actualmente en un entorno serrano y boscoso único con hermosos arroyos.
Es muy conocida por la fiesta típica alemana, el “Oktoberfest” que se hace cada año en el mes de octubre desde 1957, atrayendo a más de 150.000 mil personas, siendo la tercera más grande del mundo. Pero también existen otras fiestas que congregan a muchas personas, como la Fiesta de la masa Vienesa durante las pascuas, la del chocolate alpino en las vacaciones invernales, entre otras.

Comida Alemana en Argentina + Paseo por Villa General Belgrano, Córdoba
Para nuestro último día en Villa General Belgrano, Córdoba, salimos a pasear por el pueblo y comer comida alemana. Comenzamos el día con un rico desayuno en Café Rissen, luego subimos al Mirador para disfrutar las vistas de las Sierras y el pueblo, y después paseamos por Paseo dei Fiori y Paseo Los Troncos - dos galerias comerciales donde uno puedo comprar todo tipo de souvenirs al estilo alemán. Para el almuerzo, fuimos a Blumen, un restaurante que se especializa en comida alemana y cervezas artesanales. Nosotros pedimos la Costeleta Blumen con chucrut, hongos, papas, manzanas - una porción para 2-3 personas! También probamos la cerveza Berlin - una rubia y un roja, y para el postre un Apfelstrudel con helado y una copa Selva Negra. Riquísimo!
