Charming Seaside Village | PORTUGAL | Vila do Conde Near Porto
Vila do Conde is a picturesque and peaceful seaside village on the northern coast of Portugal, located 25 km (15 mi) northwest of Porto. Vila do Conde lies at the mouth of the Ave River where it spills into the Atlantic Ocean. Historically, this is a ship-building town which flourished in the fishing and trading industries. This was an important maritime center during Portugal's Age of Discovery. The village still thrives as a fishing port as well as maintaining a lace-making tradition. The current population is about 36,000 people.
This video was recorded on a cloudy day with light rain and a comfortable temperature in March 2022. A Saharan Dust Storm was influencing the color of the sky.
It is easy to catch a metro (Red B Line) from Porto and it takes about 45 minutes to travel here by train.

Vila do Conde - Portugal
A povoação de Vila do Conde é muito antiga, anterior à fundação de Portugal, e o seu topónimo não sofreu alterações, era já Vila do Conde. A primeira referência a Vila do Conde é do ano de 953 no livro da condessa Mumadona Dias onde é referida como Villa de Comite. Fica perto do Porto, e tem um nucleo urbano antigo muito bonito e interessante, com casas quinhentistas, ruas estreitas, igrejas e conventos e uma zona ribeirinha rebilitada, onde podemos passear e ver esta cidade de 1001 angulos diferentes.

Day 1, Camino Portuguese Coastal route Porto to Vila do Conde
My first day walking on the camino Portuguese Coastal route from Porto (actually Matosinhos) to Vila do Conde. In total 21,7 Km
Nice route 99% near the ocean. Loads of places you can get a coffee or lunch along the way with a nice view on the ocean. Never mind the petrol chemical industry in the beginning on your richt side, just look at the left and enjoy the ocean views.

Unbelievable! It was precisely 1 year ago that I released my first video on this YouTube Channel! I am so glad I started this journey and I can't say thank you enough for watching my videos and commenting on them. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to recording and editing, but there's one thing I'm sure about: I want to share all about Portugal with you!
I want you to know where to go and what to visit in Portugal when you're traveling here, so my Tips & Tricks About Portugal are a way for me to share the best of Portugal with travelers who can't wait to experience this country the best way possible.
I am a local, and I worked as a tour guide and travel consultant for the past 8 years, so I believe I have many tricks on my sleeve when it comes to sharing the best of Portugal!
If you don't know what to do in Portugal during the month of May, these are some of my tips:
- Visit Coimbra and Participate in one of the most amazing students festivities in the world, the famous Queima das Fitas with its Cortejo da Queima das Fitas (Parade), Serenata Monumental (Serenade) and other events that take place on the first and second weeks of May. This is definitely the genuine Portugal!
- Participate in the Candle Procession in Fátima. Altough there are Candle Processions every night, the best of them all happens on the 13th of May in the Sanctuary of Fátima. There are plenty of other things to see in Fátima, but this is the highlight.
- Witness the many ceremonies taking place in the small town of Barcelos, at the time of the celebration of Festa das Cruzes. If you're wondering what to do in Barcelos, this is the best time to visit it because the city is filled with color and happiness day and night!
- Enjoy the Tapetes de Flores in cities such as Vila do Conde, Caminha and Vilarelho. These places, all located in the North Region of Portugal, organize unique exhibitions of Flower Rugs on the streets... and this is something very unique and unforgettable!
