A Day In Victor Harbor

Victor Harbor is a charming coastal town located in the southern region of Australia. Victor Harbor is an ideal spot for anyone interested in outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, and exploring the rugged coastal landscape.

#victorHarbor #southAustralia #holiday #vacation

Victor Harbor Highlights - South Australia.

Victor Harbor is a coastal town in South Australia on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 82 kilometres (51 mi) south of Adelaide. Matthew Flinders in HMS Investigator visited the bay on 8 April 1802 while on the first circumnavigation of the continent, mapping the unsurveyed southern Australian coast from the west. In 1837 Captain Richard Crozier who was en route from Sydney to the Swan River Colony in command of HMS Victor, anchored just off Granite Island and named the sheltered waters in the lee of the island 'Victor Harbor' after his ship. The township of Victor Harbor was proclaimed in 1914 with the spelling Harbor.
Urimbirra Wildlife Park is an Open-Range Wildlife Park located in Hindmarsh Valley just 5 minutes from Victor Harbor. They have a range of Australian native. You can pet a kangaroo, pat a koala, feed an emu and watch a professional snake handler!
The Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram a 3.1 km (1.9 mi) tramway that links the city's visitor information centre with the nearby Granite Island. Much of its route is over a 630-metre (2,070-foot) causeway.
Rosetta Head, known as The Bluff, offers a fabulous 360 degree view of this picturesque coastal region. From the top of the rocks you can take in the rugged coastline to the west, gaze for miles out to sea and look back over the landscape of Victor’s sprawling township. The Bluff is approximately 100m high and the walk is graded as medium to steep. The full summit walk is about 850m in total, but you can just choose to walk up and back down the same path if you don’t want to continue all the way around.
Once at the top the view is spectacular, especially along the coastline to the west where the ocean crashes into the beautiful rugged cliffs. To the east you can see Granite Island, Wright Island and right out to Seal Rock, home to New Zealand Fur Seals and Australian Sea Lions. Below is Petrel Cove which you can walk down to from the lower car park to discover a sheltered beach.
Footage was taken on a Samsung Note 10 Plus and a DJI Spark Drone.

EXPLORING VICTOR HARBOR!!! What's there to do?

We went on a lovely escape this time! Heading through Mclaren Vale, to Victor Harbor, Horseshoe Bay, Goolwa and finally Strathalbyn!

First, we went to the d'Arenberg Cube, known as the cube for locals of South Australia. The cube is situated in a beautiful part of Adelaide called Mclaren Vale. It's famous for wineries and relaxing atmospheres. After our stop at the cube, we went to one of the best pizza places in Adelaide, Pizzateca, a must-visit place if you're a foodie or pizza lover like I am!

Then we went to our first ever Airbnb and it was lovely and easy to access. We then explored Victor Harbor. Unfortunately, as you will see in the video the main attractions all seemed to be closed for issues such as weather. But, if you are coming to Victor Harbor, they have a horse tram that takes you across to Granite Island, a cockle train to nearby Goolwa, lovely places to eat and stay, a coastal beach feels, museums, swimming with tuna experience, and an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Thank you for joining on yet another Escape. I can't wait for you to join on the near and past adventures.

Get one month Free of music for your videos here! It also helps me out a lot, thanks.

Victor Harbor, South Australia Walking Tour [4k-60fps] ???????? ????

Victor Harbor, South Australia Walking Tour [4k-60fps] | Cockle Train

Victor Harbor is a town in the Australian state of South Australia located within the City of Victor Harbor on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 82 kilometres (51 mi) south of the state capital of Adelaide. The town is the largest population centre on the peninsula, with an economy based upon agriculture, fisheries and tourism. It is a highly popular tourist destination, with the area's population greatly expanded during the summer holidays, usually by Adelaide locals looking to escape the summer heat.

Matthew Flinders in HMS Investigator visited the bay on 8 April 1802, while on the first circumnavigation of the continent, mapping the unsurveyed southern Australian coast from the west. He encountered Nicolas Baudin in Le Geographe near the Murray Mouth several kilometres to the east of the present day location of Victor Harbor. Baudin was surveying the coast from the east for Napoleonic France. Although their countries were at war, each captain was given documents by the other nation's government, stating that the ships were on scientific missions, and were therefore not to be regarded as ships of war. Together, the ships returned to the bay and sheltered, while the captains compared notes. Flinders named the bay Encounter Bay after the meeting.

In 1837, Captain Richard Crozier who was en-route from Sydney to the Swan River Colony in command of HMS Victor, anchored just off Granite Island and named the sheltered waters in the lee of the island 'Victor Harbor' after his ship. At about the same time, two whaling stations were established, one at Rosetta Head, popularly known as The Bluff, and the other near the point opposite Granite Island. Whale oil became South Australia's first export. From 1839, the whaling station was managed for a time by Captain John Hart, a later Premier of South Australia. The town of Port Victor was laid out on the shores of Victor Harbor in 1863 when the horse-drawn tramway from Goolwa was extended to the harbour. The last whale was caught off Port Victor in 1872.

A popular site for visitors is Granite Island, which is connected to the mainland by a short tram/pedestrian causeway. The tram service is provided by the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram, one of the very few horse-drawn tram routes remaining in public transit service. Granite island is home to a colony of little penguins which are a popular attraction on the island. These penguins shelter on the island during the night, departing in the morning to hunt for fish before returning at sunset. Sadly this colony of penguins is now almost gone. A count in 2021 put the number at 20, down from 44 in 2018 - the decrease largely due to foxes.

Between June to September, whale spotting is a popular attraction. Southern right whales come to the nearby waters to calve and to mate. The South Australian Whale Centre located at Victor Harbor, provides hands-on interactive activities and presentations as well as information and whale watching tips.

The Steam Ranger Heritage Railway runs train services, most notably The Cockle Train between Victor Harbor and Goolwa, along the Victor Harbor railway line. The Cockle Train travels along the oldest steel railed railway in Australia dating back to 1854 when it was constructed to provide a link between the River Murray and the ocean wharfs at Pt Elliot and later at Victor Harbor.
