Verbania, a garden on the lake: this is the image of itself with which Verbania, in its marvellous natural setting on the Borromean Gulf, welcomes visitors. Gardens and parks are a major tourist attraction of the area, an ideal destination for those seeking a relaxing holiday with, as backdrop, a landscape of breathtaking beauty and harmony.
In the 19th century Lake Maggiore was discovered by literary and artistic travellers, whose descriptions of the area helped to make it a favourite destination of the European upper classes. The lake, with the Borromean Islands set into it like jewels, which so fascinated these élite tourists, now has a public boat service, and the palaces and gardens of the islands are easily reached from Verbania.
Following the example of the Borromeo family, members of the English aristocracy and the wealthy Lombard bourgeoisie built the profusion of summer residences which were to have a profound impact on the landscape, and still adorn the lake shores today.
Some of these outstanding gardens are open to visitors. In Verbania, the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens cover an area of 16 hectares and boast around 20,000 species of plants from all over the world. Villa San Remigio located close to Villa Taranto, is surrounded by a park of 8 hectares, a marvellous example of an eclectic garden. The garden of Villa Giulia, directly on the lake shore, is a public park. This intense interest in the landscape is reflected not only in the very many parks and gardens of the area, but also in the Museo del Paesaggio (founded in 1909). The art gallery (literally “Landscape Museum”) is an expression of the art and the priceless inheritance in terms of landscape of the Verbania area.
While some parts of the environment have remained in their centuries-old natural state, notably the Valgrande National Park and the Fondo Toce Nature reserve, the lake shore and the islands have been transformed and enhanced by landscaping art.

E’ un luogo molto particolare in quanto incastonato nella roccia affacciato direttamente sulle acque del Lago Maggiore.
It is an extraordinary place as it is set in the rock directly overlooking the waters of Lake Maggiore.
L’Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso si trova sulla sponda Lombarda del Lago Maggiore a pochi chilometri da Laveno.

Hai 2 opzioni: in auto o in battello.
You have 2 options: by car or by boat.
Se scegli l’opzione dall’auto devi sapere che una volta parcheggiata la macchina devi poi scendere una lunga scalinata di 268 gradini, che poi devi risalire al ritorno.
If you choose the car option, you have to know that once you have parked the car, you have to go down a long staircase of 268 steps, which you then have to go up on the way back.
A pagamento c’è comunque la possibilità di prendere l’ascensore.

Fece quindi edificare una cappella dedicata a Santa Caterina, attualmente visibile sul fondo della chiesa. La cappella risale al XII° secolo.

Pallanza is a district of the Italian comune (municipality) of Verbania. It is located in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, on the bank of Lake Maggiore.
Pallanza was autonomous until 1939 when it was merged with Intra to form Verbania under the royal decree n. 702 of 4 April 1939.
Verbania is the most populous comune (municipality) and the capital city of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy. It is situated on the shore of Lake Maggiore, about 91 km (57 mi) north-west of Milan and about 40 km (25 mi) from Locarno in Switzerland. It had a population of 30,827 at 1 January 2017.
It faces the city of Stresa lying at a direct distance of 3.7 km (2 mi) across Lake Maggiore, and 16 km (10 mi) by road. The present-day Verbania was created by the 1939 merger of the cities of Intra, Pallanza and Suna, and other frazioni. Since 1992 it has been the capital of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. A small islet lying a stone's throw from the shores of the Pallanza frazione and separated from it by a narrow stretch of water just 10 or 15 metres wide, known as the Isolino di San Giovanni, is famous for having been the home of Arturo Toscanini between the years of 1927 and 1952.
Verbania consists of the following localities: Antoliva, Bieno, Biganzolo, Cavandone, Fondotoce, Intra, Pallanza, Possaccio, Suna, Torchiedo, Trobaso and Zoverallo.

VERBANIA e i giardini botanici più belli del mondo #ProntiPartenzaVia ???????? #trip
VERBANIA è il capoluogo e città più popolosa del Lago Maggiore. Proprio dal Verbano, antico nome del lago, venne battezzata a seguito dell'unione in un'unica città dei due comuni di Pallanza e Intra.
Verbania chiude a nord i Golfo Borromeo e grazie alla sua vocazione turistica ha da sempre attirato visitatori che nel tempo sono andati edificando numerose belle ville, attorniate da ampli parchi e giardini. Sul colle della Castagnola ne sorgono parecchie tra cui la più celebre è Villa Taranto, i cui giardini botanici coprono la vasta estensione di 16 ettari. Una rete di percorsi e sentieri permette di attraversarli e di scoprire - per gran parte dell'anno - l'esplosione di colori dei fiori, le serre tropicali, le vasche di ninfee e fiori di loto, i prati all'iglese, le fontane e i giochi d'acqua, le piante provenienti da ogni parte del mondo.
Questi giardini sono da molti definiti i più belli del mondo e di fatto rappresentano la principale attrattiva di Verbania e una delle più interessanti dell'intero lago Maggiore, insieme alle Isole Borromee, raggiungibili per altro in traghetto anche da Verbania.
Oltre ai giardini a Pallanza è interessante visitare il Museo del Paesaggio e la chiesa di Madonna di Campagna, mentre nel centrro storico di Intra la Collegiata di San Vittore.

Ciao A tutti siamo Pallanza Verbania sul Lago Maggiore. Davanti a noi vediamo Villa Giulia. Villa Giulia fu fatta costruire nel 1847 da Bernardino Branca, l'inventore del Fernet. Fu suo figlio che dedicò la villa a sua moglie Giulia. Ecco perché si chiama villa Giulia. Davanti a noi il ristorante Milano e dietro il campanile della chiesa di San Leonardo.
La statua collocata sulla colonna del porto funge da idrometro e riporta i livelli delle piene storiche del Lago Maggiore. Il grande monumento che vediamo è dedicato al generale Luigi Cadorna essendo Pallanza il suo luogo di nascita. Il piazzale di questo monumento è un bel luogo per ammirare il lungolago di Pallanza e fare una foto.
Ecco il ceppo del grande albero secolare a cui molti pallanzesi erano particolarmente affezionati abbattuto dalla tempesta avvenuta proprio nella data riportata sulla targa.
La piccola isola che dista solo poche decine di metri dalla riva di Pallanza è l’Isolino di San Giovanni. L’isolino di San Giovanni non è celebre come le altre isolee Borromee ma ha sempre il suo fascino. La storia dell’Isolino di San Giovanni è legata al famoso direttore d'orchestra Arturo Toscanini, che la scelse come luogo dove soggiornare in tranquillità, in compagnia solo di una stretta cerchia di amici.
Continuiamo la nostra passeggiata ammirando i bellissimi alberi fioriti ed il romantico panorama del Lago Maggiore.

Hello Everyone we are Pallanza Verbania on Lake Maggiore. In front of us we see Villa Giulia. Villa Giulia was built in 1847 by Bernardino Branca, the inventor of Fernet. It was his son who dedicated the Villa to his wife Giulia. This is why it is called Villa Giulia. In front of us the Milano restaurant and behind the bell tower of the church of San Leonardo.
The statue placed on the column of the port acts as a hydrometer and shows the levels of the historic floods of Lake Maggiore. The large monument we see is dedicated to General Luigi Cadorna, Pallanza being his birthplace. The square of this monument is a nice place to admire the lakefront of Pallanza and take a photo.
Here is the stump of the great centuries-old tree to which many Pallanzesi were particularly fond of, felled by the storm that occurred precisely on the date shown on the plate.
The small island that is only a few tens of meters from the shore of Pallanza is the Isolino di San Giovanni. The islet of San Giovanni is not as famous as the other Borromean islands but it always has its charm. The history of the Isolino di San Giovanni is linked to the famous conductor Arturo Toscanini, who chose it as a place to stay in peace, in the company only of a close circle of friends.
We continue our walk admiring the beautiful flowering trees and the romantic panorama of the lake.

Bonjour à tous, nous sommes Pallanza Verbania sur le lac Majeur. En face de nous, nous voyons Villa Giulia. La Villa Giulia a été construite en 1847 par Bernardino Branca, l'inventeur de Fernet. C'est son fils qui a dédié la Villa à sa femme Giulia. C'est pourquoi elle s'appelle Villa Giulia. Devant nous le restaurant Milano et derrière le clocher de l'église de San Leonardo.
La statue placée sur la colonne du port fait office de densimètre et montre les niveaux des crues historiques du lac Majeur. Le grand monument que nous voyons est dédié au général Luigi Cadorna, Pallanza étant sa ville natale. La place de ce monument est un endroit agréable pour admirer le bord du lac de Pallanza et prendre une photo.
Voici la souche du grand arbre centenaire que beaucoup de Pallanzesi aimaient particulièrement, abattu par la tempête qui s'est produite précisément à la date indiquée sur l'assiette....

The Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto (16 hectares) are botanical gardens located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza, Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Italy. They are open daily; an admission fee is charged.
The gardens were established 1931-1940 by Neil McEacharn who bought an existing villa and its neighboring estates, cut down more than 2000 trees, and undertook substantial changes to the landscape, including the addition of major water features employing 8 km of pipes. He set the name Villa Taranto (Taranto House) in honour of his ancestor Étienne Jacques Joseph Alexandre MacDonald, named Duke of Taranto by Napoleon. They opened to the public in 1952, and after McEacharn's death in 1964 have been run by a non-profit organization. The Villa Taranto itself is not open to the public; it is used by the government.
Captain Neil Boyd Watson McEacharn was born in 1884 in Hanover Square, London, England. His father was the Australian Sir Malcolm Donald McEacharn and his mother Mary Ann Watson, a daughter of Australian mining millionaire John Boyd Watson. He was commissioned into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers of the British Army in 1911 and served throughout the First World War, being appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Today the gardens contain nearly 20,000 plant varieties, representing more than 3,000 species, set among 7 km of paths. Among its collections are azalea, cornus, greenhouses of Victoria amazonica, and 300 types of dahlias. It also contains a small herbarium and the founder's mausoleum.

2021 Ruota Panoramica di Intra Verbania Lago Maggiore Italia. Con 34 metri di altezza è la ruota panoramica mobile più alta d'Italia.
In questo video vediamo dove è stata posizionata la ruota panoramica a Intra Lago Maggiore e saliamo anche sulla ruota da cui ammiriamo un bellissimo panorama di Intra e del Lago Maggiore. Alla nostra destra abbiamo il famoso teatro di Verbania. Oltre il teatro abbiamo la strada che costeggia il Lago Maggiore che porta ai famosissimi giardini di Villa Taranto (campioni del mondo nel 2017 secondo la classifica stilata da TheNeeds) ed a Pallanza.
Alla nostra sinistra abbiamo invece il lungolago di Intra. Sul lungolago si ben distingue il vecchio Imbarcadero di Intra, ora trasformato in un bel ristorante pizzeria.
I battelli e traghetti infatti ora partono dal nuovo imbarcadero che si trova proprio sotto di noi. La destinazione principale dei tragetti che partono qui da Intra è Laveno dove c'è la bidonvia che ti conduce in cima al Sasso del Ferro:

Dans cette vidéo, nous voyons où la grande roue a été positionnée dans Intra Lago Maggiore et nous montons également sur la roue d'où nous pouvons admirer un beau panorama sur Intra et le lac Majeur. Sur notre droite, nous avons le célèbre théâtre de Verbania. Au-delà du théâtre, nous avons la route qui longe le lac Majeur qui mène aux célèbres jardins de la Villa Taranto (champions du monde en 2017 selon le classement établi par TheNeeds) et à Pallanza.
Sur notre gauche, nous avons l'Intra au bord du lac. Au bord du lac se détache l'ancien Imbarcadero di Intra, aujourd'hui transformé en une jolie pizzeria.
En effet, les bateaux et ferries partent désormais du nouveau débarcadère qui se trouve juste en dessous de nous. La destination principale des itinéraires qui partent ici d'Intra est Laveno où se trouve le téléphérique qui vous emmène au sommet du Sasso del Ferro:

In diesem Video sehen wir, wo das Riesenrad in Intra Lago Maggiore positioniert wurde und wir steigen auch auf das Rad, von dem wir ein wunderschönes Panorama auf Intra und den Lago Maggiore bewundern können.
