VEGHEL, TRAVEL NETHERLANDS...

VEGHEL-is a town and a former municipality in the southern Netherlands. On 1 January 2017 Veghel, together with Schijndel and Sint-Oedenrode, merged into a new municipality called Meierijstad creating the largest municipality of the province North-Brabant in terms of land area. It takes about 21 minutes by bike to go here from Erp were my little sis live. It was fun with the bike and i get lost on way going there since I am only using a google maps. Then i have a quality time with Vanesse she live there and we had brunch and some tour at the center and the church Saint Lambert...

Uden was first recorded around 1190 as Uthen. However, earlier settlements have been found in the areas of the modern day Moleneind, Vorstenburg and Bitswijk and evidence of Ice Age settlements has been found near the hamlet of Slabroek. From 1324 Uden was ruled by the Valkenburg house and became a part of the Land van Ravenstein [nl]. After 1397 it became a part of the German duchy of Cleves.

Uden was hardly affected by the Eighty Years' War and gained religious freedom in 1631. A result of this was the establishment in the municipality of the Crosiers, who fled from Protestant Dutch oppression in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1638. After the peace of Munster in 1648, Uden remained outside the Dutch republic and was a haven of religious tolerance and Catholics from the nearby towns of Veghel, Nistelrode and Erp were able to build churches at the municipality's boundaries. The period of 1648–1795 saw an increase in prosperity due to the weekly markets, however, the town was almost destroyed by a fire in 1746. The Dutch folk-hero Kobus van der Schlossen was locally active at this time.

In 1795, Uden was taken by French troops and incorporated into the Dutch republic and has been a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 1810. After that time Uden's wealth diminished, mainly due to competition from the neighbouring Brabant towns, resulting in emigration to the Midwestern United States. In 1848 The Dominican missionary Father Theodore J. van den Broek led a group from Uden to Little Chute, Wisconsin, beginning a pattern of immigration to northeast Wisconsin that would last until the early twentieth century.

On 12 June 1840, a meteorite weighing approximately 720 grams fell into a field just outside Uden. It narrowly missed a group of labourers digging for peat nearby.[3]

In 1855 the village of Volkel founded its own parish.

Uden began to specialise in the growth of cherries from 1860 onwards and in 1886 the old Petrus-church was demolished by fire and replaced by a new larger one.

During World War I (in which the Netherlands stayed neutral) North Brabant was inundated by Belgian refugees. A refugee camp was erected at Vluchtoord in Uden, which housed several thousand Flemish refugees until 1918.

In the 1920s people started to cultivate the extensive heathlands in the eastern part of the municipality, called De Peel. In 1922 a new village was built, called Terraveen and later renamed Odiliapeel.

After Uden was struck by a devastating cyclone in 1925, it was visited by Wilhelmina, queen of the Netherlands.

Since the 1950s Uden has become a regional centre of development, providing much needed economic growth. Due to the growth, very little is left of the old town's character.

Beautiful Travel Destinations in the Netherlands : Den Bosch | 's Hertogenbosch | Noord-Brabant

This week we visit Den Bosch, capital of Northern Brabant (Noord-Brabant) in the Netherlands. Timo has been here as a teenager once and Kylian and I have never been, so it was a wonderful family trip to take together.

This old city center of Den Bosch has a rich history and culture, with many famous buildings and cathedrals and a number of extraordinary statues. We weren't able to see everything, because Kylian was so keen on going to the playground, but we had a lovely walk through the city.

On our trip, we saw a protest or demonstration back to the station. I think it was a protest against the coorrrrrooons rules. It was a lot of people at once screaming, Freedom/ Vrijheid

Beeckestein - Velsen Zuid - Netherlands

Buitenplaats Beeckestijn in Velsen-Zuid is een uniek stukje Nederland. Wandel door het romantische parkbos in landschapsstijl of door de strakke, geometrische tuinen. Je vindt hier veel elementen van historische waarde. Er is een klassieke kruidentuin met slangenmuur, een bloemenwaaier, een romantisch berceau en een barokke siertuin. Deze buitenplaats is de ideale plek om de drukte van de Randstad te ontvluchten.

De geschiedenis van Beeckestijn gaat terug tot de vijftiende eeuw. Beeckestijn was vroeger een buitenverblijf voor rijke kooplieden uit Amsterdam. In 1742 kocht Jan Jacob Boreel Beeckestijn. Van alle bewoners drukte hij het meest zijn stempel op het uiterlijk van de buitenplaats. Sinds begin 2011 is Natuurmonumenten beheerder van de tuinen en het parkbos. Buitenplaats Beeckestijn is met de gebouwen en het hele parkbos een rijksmonument.

Tuinstijlen
Op Beeckestijn zijn steeds nieuwe tuinstijlen aangelegd zonder de oude te vervangen. Dat is heel bijzonder. Al wandelend passeer je verschillende stijlen zoals classicisme, régence en rococo. Beeckestijn is één van de belangrijkste tuinverzamelingen van ons land. Het tuinontwerp uit uit 1772 waarop de latere restauraties gebaseerd zijn, is van J.G. Michael. Het ontwerp van Beeckestijn was één van de eerste opdrachten van deze later beroemde tuinarchitect.

Stinsenflora
Op buitenplaats Beeckestijn vind je enorm veel stinsenplanten. Dit zijn sierplanten die rond de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw op landgoederen, buitenplaatsen, states en herenboerderijen werden aangeplant. Het woord stinsenplant komt van het Friese woord stins, dat stenen huis betekent. Dit waren de woningen van adellijke of aanzienlijke heren, die vaak landgoederen bezaten. Kom in het voorjaar naar Beeckestijn en bewonder deze bloeiende stinsenplanten. De stinsenflora van Beeckestijn is zeer soortenrijk, waarbij het roomwitte Haarlems klokkenspel er uit springt. Je zult versteld staan van alle prachtige kleuren!

Slangenmuren en bloemenwaaier
Op de buitenplaats vind je twee slangenmuren. Door hun slingerende vorm houden deze muren zonnewarmte langer vast, zodat er leifruit kan groeien. Naast de kruidentuin ligt een ronde bloementuin. De oorspronkelijke versie van de cirkelvormige bloemenwaaier is rond 1745 door de toenmalige eigenaar aangelegd om te pronken met zijn bijzondere plantencollectie. Ronde bloementuinen waren in deze periode vrij gebruikelijk, maar de vorm van de bloemenwaaier op Beeckestijn met zijn gedraaide bloembedden is uniek.

Trouwlocatie
Ook is buitenplaats Beeckestijn een erkende trouwlocatie van de gemeente Velsen. Het landhuis, de siertuinen en het parkbos vormen een prachtig decor voor sfeervolle trouwfoto’s. Wil je foto’s maken op het voorplein en in het landhuis? Daar is toestemming voor nodig van Stichting Beeckestijn. Vul hiervoor het aanvraagformulier in. Je betaalt hiervoor een vergoeding. Dit bedrag komt ten goede aan de instandhouding van het huis en de tuinen van Beeckestijn.

Buitenplaats Beeckestijn vormt een oase van rust, midden in het groen. Kom ook genieten van al het moois op deze buitenplaats.
