Holland America Buffet Food @ Lido Market (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) on ms Veendam (4K)
See what food to expect at the buffet on a Holland America cruise ship for breakfast, lunch & dinner, specifically in this case from the ms Veendam. Numerous sample menus are included as well in this video.
Most of the offerings were high quality and tasty, though the Asian food for lunch were a bit less well executed than some of the other Holland America ships we have been on (e.g. some stir-fried noodle dishes were too soupy, sushi a bit underwhelming at times, & lack of Asian soup we had on other HAL ships).

Please note that some of the same food offerings are served on different days, but we only show them once to avoid repetition.
Overall we enjoyed the food from the Lido Market buffet. Pretty much the only thing that really needs to be improved is are the opening hours for lunch & dinner- both should be extended by at least an hour in our opinion.

The beautiful province of Zeeland in The Netherlands in 1919 in color! Part-1 [Enhanced & colorized]
The province of Zeeland consists of a number of large islands in the South-West of The Netherlands. Part-1 of this film shows the simple and hard rural life of its inhabitants more than a century ago in 1919. At the time nearly all of them wore the traditional dress.
Characteristic are the two small golden reflectors that are worn at the side of the women's caps.
Some viewers have jokingly brandmarked them as satellite solar panels.
A tradition was to coupe horse's tails and beautify them with ribbons to be shown-off at local horse shows. Zeeland was and is primarily an agricultural area of The Netherlands. In the film women can be seen picking various fruit including goose berries.
Zeeland has had a long fight with the sea. Dikes and dunes often were not high or strong enough causing Zeeland to be flooded often during many centuries until in the 1960's the Dutch government executed the Delta plan. This involved closing-off the waters between the islands from the sea by means of large dams and huge sea locks.
In recent years it has become apparent that this is prohibiting fish like salmon to swim up the Dutch and German rivers to sperm. Therefore some of the sealockes are now opened slightly to let them pass through.

Holland America ms Veendam Tour, Food & Entertainment (4K)
See what is it like aboard the Holland America Veendam cruise ship, including what entertainment & food to expect, including menus. We were on the Veendam in July 2018 for a 14 night Cuba cruise sailing out of Boston.
The staff was friendly, especially at the dining room. The food was pretty good, though the buffet was just a bit inferior to our other Holland America cruises (on the ms Amsterdam & Eurodam). The buffet offerings were still very enjoyable, however. Food at the main dining room was excellent, and the Dive In Cafe on this ship tasted even better than our other pair of HAL cruises. We did have some service issues at the pool deck when eating at the Dive In there- asked the roaming bartender there for water (there was no water nearby), and she was very hesitant, then said she would bring it, and never did.
Entertainment was pretty solid- the singers & dancers had good performances, and the guest entertainers were pretty funny. It is certainly not a party ship, however. Activities-wise we enjoyed Ping Pong & playing some tennis (this is one of the few cruise ships out there with a Tennis Court).
The Veendam is showing her age a bit. On a couple occasions there were AC issues at the Lido Market buffet, and at some point there was condensation at the ceiling there. The shower at our cabin had trouble keeping a constant temperature. The ship's internet was extremely slow and expensive- to avoid frustration we'd recommend avoiding buying an internet package on the Veendam unless they have upgraded the service. Also if you are someone who likes to sleep in- it could be difficult as loud announcements from the cruise director are broadcast through hallway ceiling speakers as early as 8 AM at times.
Like other older HAL cruise ships, it was nice that the Veendam also has self-service laundry facilities ($1 for the washer, $2 for dryer).
The Holland America Veendam review verdict- we enjoyed our cruise overall, despite some of the issues we mentioned, and would certainly recommend to others.

4th of July Buffet on Holland America Cruise ms Veendam (4K)
A fun food event from our recent Holland America cruise on the ms Veendam was the 4th of July buffet dinner at the Lido Market restaurant. Some of the best items offered included:
* Cocktail Shrimp
* Broiled New York Steak Garlic Butter
* Fried Chicken
* Fresh Cherries
* New York Style Cheesecake
Everything did not go smoothly, however, as the smoked ribs ran out earlier, and guests had to line up, some for over half an hour, to get their ribs.

Camper Travel - Winter op camperparc Borgerswoldhoeve in Veendam
Het was een koud maar fijn vorstig weekend met onze camper op camperplaats Borgerswoldhoeve in Veendam, helemaal in Groningen. Daar komen wij niet vaak. We stonden vroeg op om in de mooie Groningse natuur te wandelen en fietsen. Helaas was bijna alles gesloten, maar een kop chocolademelk to go kon gelukkig wel.
Holland America New York Pizza, Dive In Cafe, Afternoon Tea & Late Night Buffet on Veendam (4K)
See what Holland America cruise line has to offer, including menus, when it comes to snacks to satisfy the afternoon & late night hunger of vacationers! Afternoon tea at 3 PM on sea days was pretty good with tasty sweets, including a scone with orange marmalade. New York Pizza is also an option until 5 PM, with our favorite being the Finoccio pizza by famed chef Elizabeth Faulkner. Also on the pool deck is a Mexican Food station that seems to be new. Dive In Cafe is our favorite- with delicious burgers, including vegetarian options. The portabella mushroom burger is spectacular, and so are are the hot dogs there. The fries are the BEST we have ever tasted at sea.
At the nearby Lido Market buffet, despite lunch closing at around 1:30 PM, Holland America offers some snack there throughout the afternoon as well. The salad station is open, and some sandwiches are available for guests, including a station that serves tasty real ice scream.
Dinner buffet closes at a relatively early 8 PM, but HAL does open a late night buffet that goes from 10:30 PM to 11:30 PM. We show the sample menu & some sample food here as well.
