Welcome to GREECE! Huge Thanks to Traverse and Visit Greece for taking us to Thessaloniki! We started off just by exploring the City of Thessaloniki, trying the famous spanakopita and heading up to the White Tower! Obviously whilst you are in Greece you have to visit a vineyard, It would be rude not to! The next day we headed to Central Macedonia to the national park for a water buffalo safari and a boat ride on the lake!!!!!

Athens is a city that I’ve wanted to visit ever since learning so much about it during one of my Western Civilizations classes in High School. Finally, I had a chance to visit, not only for the amazing history, but mainly for the amazing Greek food!
In this video, I’m taking you on a one day, all out Greek food tour of Athens along with Tassos. We ate a combination of classic Greek street food snacks, and a few restaurants, including for dinner some of the best lamb chops I’ve ever had.
Here are all the restaurants and places included in this Greek food tour of Athens:
Dexameni Cafe - Our first stop was to drink Greek coffee in this small public square. A great environment, and the coffee was excellent.
Price - 1.80 EUR per cup
Kostarelos Deli - Tassos knows his Greek cheese and he says Kostarelos Deli has some of the best cheese in Athens.
Total price - 14.60 EUR
Mam - Mam is often considered the best Greek cheese pie in Athens, and it’s a perfect street food kind of place. Most people take-away, but they have a standing table as well. The classic Greek cheese pie was my favorite.
Total price - 4.80 EUR
Varvakios Market - This is the Athens central market for meat and seafood. It’s a beautiful market and any lover would enjoy walking around this amazing market.
Miran - Pastourma and Soutzouki - This is a really cool little deli in Athens where you can buy for takeaway or order whatever you see and sit at one of the tables to snack. They are known for their camel pastirma, and it was the best thing we tried - absolutely excellent.

Bougatsopoleio Thessaloniki - Bougatsa is a famous Greek food pastry. We tried a couple versions, but the best for me was the minced meat filled bougatsa.

Kostas Soulvaki - Souvlaki, also known as kalamaki is perhaps the best known of all Greek street food or Greek fast food, and Kostas is considered to be one of the best places to eat it in Athens. They grill pork, stuff it into Greek pita, top it with tomatoes, onions, and tomato sauce, and wrap it into a handheld treat. Amazing.
Price - 2.20 EUR per piece
Taverna To Trigono - For dinner, Tassos wanted to take us to one of his favorite restaurants in Athens, a little outside of the city in a place called Kalyvia Thorikou. This is a countryside meat paradise, and they served us some of the best lamb chops I’ve ever had in my life. An amazing meal to end an incredible day of Greek food in Athens.

Many people say that Athens Greece is dangerous at night especially around the Omonia Square neighborhood. I walked from the Viktoria Metro Station along Acharnon Street towards Omonia Square three years ago. Today I take the same walk to see if Athens Greece is as dangerous as before or if the area around Omonia Square is safer now in 2022.

Veria City
Veria (officially transliterated as Veroia, historically Beroea, is a city in northern Greece. Located 511 km (317 mi) north-northwest of the capital Athens and 73 km (45 mi) west-southwest of Thessaloniki, Veria is a commercial center of Central Macedonia, the capital of the regional unit of Imathia and the seat of a metropolitan bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Church of Greece. Veria is located at the eastern foot of the Vermio Mountain. It lies on a plateau at the western edge of the Central Macedonia plain, north of the Haliacmon River. The town straddles the Tripotamos (river), a Haliacmon tributary that provides hydroelectric power to the national electric power transmission network and irrigation water to agricultural customers of the Veria plain.

While Kozani is most famous for its high-quality saffron (or krokos, as it is called in Greece), Vergina is a well-know destination for Ancient Greek History enthusiasts, as it is located extremely close to the Arcaheological Site of Aegae, the first Macedonian City, its many royal tombs, and impressive museum.
Being very close to Egnatia Odos (A2), these are both excellent places to visit as you explore Mainland Greece.
In the fourth and final part, we complete our travel from Veroia, a beautiful city with rich history, to Vergina, a sleepy town in Imathia Regional Unit, that in the past was known as Aigai (or Aegae), the capital of the Hellenic Kingdom of Macedonia.
Nowadays, its ancient sites, especially its royal tombs, and museum, attract tourists from all around the world.
Along the road, we'll pass through a sleepy little village named Agia Varvara and over Haliacmon River through the dam and artificial lake of Agia Varvara.
Alas, even though videos can give you a visual cue of the natural beauty, they cannot provide you with a sense of the warmth, aroma, and sounds one can enjoy in this trip.
These are all things that you must find out by travelling there yourselves!

In the first part, we start our journey from Vatero, a village that is located only a couple of kilometers west of Kozani, and we follow a small ring-road around the main city in order to avoid traffic, as we make our way towards Drepano, a village located North-East of Kozani.
Along the way, we'll pass through a couple of smaller villages, and we'll be able to see Egnatia Odos (A2), as well as lots of sunfower and corn fields.
Alas, even though videos can give you a visual cue of the natural beauty, they cannot provide you with a sense of the warmth, aroma, and sounds one can enjoy in this trip.
These are all things that you must find out by travelling there yourselves!

Veria (Greek: Βέροια or Βέρροια), officially transliterated Veroia, historically also spelled Berea, is a city in Macedonia, northern Greece, located 511 kilometres (318 miles) north-northwest of the capital Athens and 73 km (45 mi) west-southwest of Thessalonica.
Even by the standards of Greece, Veria is an old city; first mentioned in the writings of Thucydides in 432 BC, there is evidence that it was populated as early as 1000 BC.[2] Veria was an important possession for Philip II of Macedon (father of Alexander the Great) and later for the Romans. Apostle Paul famously preached in the city, and its inhabitants were among the first Christians in the Empire. Later, under the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, Veria was a center of Greek culture and learning. In the 7th century, the Slavic tribe of the Drougoubitai raided the lowlands below the city, while in the late 8th century Empress Irene of Athens is said to have rebuilt and expanded the city and named it Irenopolis (Ειρηνούπολις) after herself, although some sources place this Berrhoea-Irenopolis further east, towards Thrace.[5]
The city was apparently held by the Bulgarian Empire at some point in the late 9th century. The 11th century Greek bishop Theophylact of Ohrid wrote that during the brief period of Bulgarian dominance, Tsar Boris I built there one of the seven cathedral churches built by him and refers to it as one of the beautiful Bulgarian churches.[6] In the Escorial Taktikon of ca. 975, the city is mentioned as the seat of a strategos, and it apparently was the capital of a theme in the 11th century.[5] The city briefly fell to Tsar Samuel of Bulgaria at the end of the 10th century, but the Byzantine emperor Basil II quickly regained it in 1001 since its Bulgarian governor, Dobromir, surrendered the city without a fight.[5] The city is not mentioned again until the late 12th century, when it was briefly held by the Normans (1185) during their invasion of the Byzantine Empire.[5] After the Fourth Crusade (1204), it briefly became part of Boniface of Montferrat's Kingdom of Thessalonica, until the latter was conquered by the Despotate of Epirus in 1224. It changed hands again in 1246, being taken by the Emperor of Nicaea John III Doukas Vatatzes, and formed part of the restored Byzantine Empire after 1261.[5]
The 14th century was tumultuous: captured by the Serbian ruler Stephen Dushan in 1343/4, it became part of his Serbian Empire. It was recovered for Byzantium by John VI Kantakouzenos in 1350, but lost again to the Serbians soon after, becoming the domain of Radoslav Hlapen after 1358.[5] With the disintegration of the Serbian Empire, it passed once more to Byzantium by ca. 1375, but was henceforth menaced by the rising power of the Ottoman Turks. The city changed hands several times over the next decades, until the final Turkish conquest around 1430.[5]

-English: Kozani is located in Western Macedonia, and Vergina belongs to Central Macedonia, Greece.
While Kozani is most famous for its high-quality saffron (or krokos, as it is called in Greece), Vergina is a well-know destination for Ancient Greek History enthusiasts, as it is located extremely close to the Arcaheological Site of Aegae, the first Macedonian City, its many royal tombs, and impressive museum.
Being very close to Egnatia Odos (A2), these are both excellent places to visit as you explore Mainland Greece.
In the second part, we continue from Drepano, a village located North-East of Kozani, take the old road that connects Kozani to Veroia, and we are headed to Zoodochos Pigi, a small settlement atop Vermio Mountain Range, that used to be a main resting spot along the road; travellers used to stop there in order to have lunch, or drink coffee and prepare, mentally and physically, for the arduous task of crossing over to Central Macedonia, or to rest a bit after dealing with all the twists and turns, trucks and slow vehicles of the Kastania mountain road.
Nowadays, Egnatia Odos has made this road all but obsolete, as it takes less than half an hour to cross the mountains, while back in the day, it could take over an hour, depending on conditions.
Along the way, we'll pass through a couple of smaller villages, and we'll be able to see Egnatia Odos (A2), as well as lots of sunfower and corn fields.
Alas, even though videos can give you a visual cue of the natural beauty, they cannot provide you with a sense of the warmth, aroma, and sounds one can enjoy in this trip.
These are all things that you must find out by travelling there yourselves!

Ενώ η Κοζάνη είναι γνωστή για τον υψηλής ποιότητας κρόκο (ή σαφράν), η Βεργίνα είναι ένας πασίγνωστος προορισμός για τους λάτρεις της αρχαίας ελληνικής ιστορίας, καθώς βρίσκεται εξαιρετικά κοντά στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο των Αιγών, που ήταν η πρώτη πόλη των Μακεδόνων, στους πολλούς βασιλικούς της τάφους, αλλά και στο εντυπωσιακό μουσείο Αιγών.
Όντας πολύ κοντά στην Εγνατία Οδό (Α2), αποτελούν εξαιρετικά σημεία για μια γρήγορη επίσκεψη καθώς εξερευνάτε αυτή τη γωνιά της Ελλάδας.
Στο δεύτερο μέρος συνεχίζουμε από το Δρέπανο, ένα χωριό στα βορειοανατολικά της Κοζάνης και πιάνουμε την εθνική οδό Κοζάνης - Βέροιας μέχρι τη Ζωοδόχο Πηγή, έναν μικρό οικισμό που την περίοδο προ Εγνατίας Οδού, αποτελούσε σημαντικό σημείο για ξεκούραση και φαγητό ή καφέ πριν ή μετά τη διέλευση της οροσειράς του Βερμίου στο ταξίδι από ή προς την Κεντρική Μακεδονία.
Σήμερα ο δρόμος είναι ξεχασμένος, αφού μέσω της Εγνατίας Οδού, ένα ταξίδι που ξεπερνούσε τη μία ώρα, πλέον γίνεται σε μόλις 25 λεπτά.
Κατά μήκος της διαδρομής θα περάσουμε από δύο μικρότερα χωριά και θα έχουμε την ευκαιρία να δούμε από μακριά την Εγνατία Οδό (Α2), καθώς και αρκετά χωράφια με καλαμπόκια και ηλιοτρόπια.
Αλίμονο, παρόλο που τα βίντεο σας προσφέρουν μια οπτική ιδέα της φυσικής ομορφιάς αυτού του τόπου, δεν μπορούν να σας μεταφέρουν τη ζεστασιά, τα αρώματα και τους ήχους που μπορείτε να απολαύσετε σε αυτό το ταξίδι.
Αυτά είναι εμπειρίες που θα πρέπει να βιώσετε ταξιδεύοντας οι ίδιοι ως εκεί!

Berea Greece The BEMA and Jewish Synagogue Paul's Second Missionary Journey
Berea Greece is one of the stops Paul makes during his second missionary journey. We find Berea written about in Acts 17:10-15. The Bereans were of noble character and received the message of Jesus from Paul with eagerness and they examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Part of the Via Ignatia can be seen in this video. Also the BEMA (which means elevated place) where it is believed Paul preached the message of Jesus. It feels good to stand in the spot.
