Peak travel is Dec–Jan, when the weather's hot and humid. Beachgoing is popular at this time. Wet season is Dec–Mar. Winter (Jun–Aug) is mild and dry. Whale watching season runs Jul–Nov. The Hervey Bay Ocean Festival (Aug) includes a market, a parade, fireworks and whale-themed events. Also running during the Ocean Festival, the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival (Aug) has stalls offering fresh catch cuisine, local wines and live music.

We have had so much rain in South East Queensland in recent weeks, so we decided to jump in the car for a day trip and drive...north...to Hervey Bay on the Fraser Coast!
Situated 3.5 hours north of Brisbane, Hervey Bay is widely known as a site for observing humpback whales and is also the most popular access point to Fraser Island. But, Hervey Bay has so much more to offer.....
Hervey Bay has a wonderful subtropical climate. Temperatures range from 16.7c to 26.2c degrees in winter ☀️ It’s also well known for fishing and boating. The Bay has 17 kilometres of beautiful golden beaches and the bay’s waters are sheltered by Fraser Island which makes it very safe for swimming ????
We had a great day walking around Hervey Bay, enjoying fish and trips for lunch and finishing at a waterfront restaurant for a refreshing drink with a view... before heading home ????

Hervey Bay's SECRET Waterholes FOUND! A Dam you MUST visit! Fraser Coast's best inland trip spots!
Hervey Bay has some waterholes... that have been found! Not only that... a Dam in the region which is a hidden little gem, that you simply must go spend some time at!
First stop in this one, Wongi Waterhole is a magical little spot in the Wongi State Forest, located on the Fraser Coast, not far from Maryborough. This little day use area and camping area will blow you away with it's beauty, birdlife and how quiet and unknown this place is! Tranquility is abundant at this fantastic campground!
A short drive through the Wongi State Forest, along it's dusty dirt roads, you come to Lake Lenthall/ Lenthall Dam. This is not your everyday run of the mill dam folks! This one has an amazing day use area, with clean BBQ's, plenty of shade and tables to use... it also has showers, toilets and a washing up facility! There is a Ranger onsite 24/7, which gives you great piece of mind when you camp here... yes that's right! Camp! The facilities here for the campers would have to be the best I have EVER seen at a dam!
Limited numbers keeps this campsite quiet, which is always a good thing!
Boating, Fishing, Camping, Relaxing... that should be the slogan for Lake Lenthell!

Hervey Bay is a bay and a city in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, Australia.It is a natural bay between the Queensland mainland and nearby Fraser Island. The local economy relies on tourism which is based primarily around whale watching in Platypus Bay to the north, ferry access to Fraser Island, accessible recreational fishing and boating and the natural north facing, calm beaches with wide undeveloped foreshore zones.
Urangan Pier is a historic pier in Urangan, Hervey Bay.
It is a former deep-water, cargo-handling facility originally built to facilitate the export of sugar, timber and coal. The pier, served by the extension of the railway line from Pialba, was used for the transfer of cargo between rail and ships. It was built between 1913 and 1917,[2] originally to a length of 1107 metres. The pier was closed in 1985, and 239 metres of it was demolished. However, due to public outcry, 868 metres of the pier was left, and the land was handed to the Hervey Bay City Council.
By 2009 the last 220-metre section of the pier had been fully restored, and the original timber pylons had been replaced with steel pylons with a plastic covering

•This was my second visit to Hervey Bay and I just fell for it ???? I visited a few restaurants and Food and service were amazing I wish I had more time to explore next time.
•Westside Park is guaranteed fun for kids & a great relief for parents because it's Free!????

Hi all and thanks for checking out this weeks addition on the Reefworld Aquarium in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia. This is a small facility but full of life and interactions that the kids are going to get a kick out of. You can even feed the turtles!
This is not something Matt and I would normally do, but it was raining in Hervey Bay and we were coming up with indoor things to do in the area.

We stayed at the beautiful #Oaksresort and I have to say we will be back to this part of #SunshineCoast. I have to tell you this place is way underrated. In October 2019, Hervey Bay was named the First Whale Heritage Site in the world by the World Cetacean Alliance, for its commitment to and practices of sustainable whale and dolphin watching.
As at June 2018, there were 54,674 people in Hervey Bay, having grown by an annual average of 1.31% year-on-year over the preceding five years.
