Porvoo a scenically beautiful town in Finland ????????

Porvoo is a city and a municipality in the Uusimaa region of Finland, situated on the southern coast about 35 kilometres east of the city border of Helsinki and about 50 kilometres from the city centre. Porvoo was one of the six medieval towns of Finland, along with Turku, Ulvila, Rauma, Naantali and Vyborg. Porvoo itself comes from the Swedish Borgå, from the castle (borg) on Linnamäki Hill and the river (å) below.

Old Porvoo, with its red-ochre painted riverside warehouses, is one of the most photographed national landscapes in Finland and a steady favorite among travelers. Here you can admire the colorful wooden houses and stroll the winding cobbled streets – as if in a children's story book.

Visiting Hailuoto, July 2021, Finland [4K]

Visiting Hailuoto, July 2021, Finland. Walking takes place around the most western village of Marjaniemi known for its sand beaches, old fishing village and Marjaniemi Lighthouse.

Hailuoto is an island and a municipality in Northern Ostrobothnia region. The population of Hailuoto is 953 (March 31, 2021), which make it the smallest municipality in Northern Ostrobothnia and the former Oulu Province in terms of population. The municipality covers an area of 200.53 km2 (77.43 sq mi). Of all the Finnish islands in Finland's sea areas, Hailuoto is the third largest after Ahvenanmaa/Åland and Kemiönsaari/Kimitoön. Land in the region is constantly rising due to post-glacial rebound.

The permanent settlement of Hailuoto apparently began in the 12th century. Residents came from many directions, especially from Karelia. The island has a rough history: During the Great Famine of 1695–1697, 88 inhabitants of Hailuoto died. During the Great Northern War (1713–1721), 200 Cossacks of the Tsardom of Russia killed about 800 people in Hailuoto with an ax on September 29, 1714. Many of the victims had sought protection on the island, as Hailuoto had a population of less than 300 at that time. The bloodshed done overnight was the greatest of the Great Northern War.

Finland/Suomi. Pori city walking tour. Yyteri beach and resort

Pori is a city and municipality on the west coast of Finland. The city is located some 10 kilometres from the Gulf of Bothnia, on the estuary of the Kokemäenjoki river. Pori was established in 1558 by Duke John, who later became John III of Sweden.
Now the city has a population about of 90 thausand. It is the 10th largest city in Finland. Pori was also once one of the main cities with Turku in the former Turku and Pori Province (1634–1997). Pori is especially known nationwide for its Jazz Festival, Yyteri's sandy beaches, Kirjurinluoto, Porin Ässät ice hockey club, FC Jazz football club, and Pori Theater, which is the first Finnish-language theater in Finnish history. Pori is also known for its local street food called porilainen.
Yyteri is a district and a beach in the city of Pori. It is located about 17 kilometres from the centre, bordering the Baltic Sea. The distance from Helsinki to Yyteri is about 260 kilometres and it takes more than three hours to get there by car mainly along Highway 2. Yyteri is not an urban district, instead it is mostly like a holiday resort.Yyteri is famous for its beach, which stretches for about six kilometres. It is very popular among both local people and people from elsewhere in Finland. The beach is one of the longest in Finland and all of Nordic countries, and has also many distinctive dunes. The dune area is unique in Europe because of its size.

Pori on kaupunki ja kunta Suomen länsirannikolla. Kaupunki sijaitsee noin 10 kilometrin päässä Pohjanlahdelta, Kokemäenjoen suistossa. Porin perusti vuonna 1558 herttua Johannes, josta tuli myöhemmin Ruotsin Johannes III.
Dyynialue on kokonsa vuoksi ainutlaatuinen Euroopassa.

???? ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????? (????????????????????????????????????) ????????????????????????????????.

Good morning dear scene walker. ☕
The sun is shining and it's nice to have you here.
We are walking towards raging rapids and a dam waterfall in Helsinki's Old Town (Vanhakaupunki).
Also nearby are the Museum of technology and the hydropower plant.
The river to our right is the Vantaanjoki (River Vantaa).
From here the river flows into the Gulf of Finland.
It is the same river that flows through the rapids in Myllykoski.
I'll link a video of it in the top right corner of your screen and the description below.
MYLLYKOSKI:
The Vantaa river has a total length of 101 km and starts from the lake Erkylänjärvi.
Helsinki uses water from this river as its backup water supply.
The Old Town rapids are 200 meters long and the drop is 6 meters.

Let's go back in time to the year 1550 when a town was founded near the rapids called Helsinge fors (Swedish for 'Helsinge rapids').
Founded by the Swedish king Gustav Vaasa, the city gradually gew around the rapids.
Residents from the cities of Rauma, Ekenäs, Ulvila and Porvoo were forced to live in the newly founded city (Helsinki).
If they refused, trade would no longer be allowed.
It was to compete with Talinn for trade in the Gulf of Finland.
In the 1640s Helsinki was moved to 'Vironniemi' for better port conditions to improve the economy.

Interesting fact: before the introduction of refrigeration equipment, ice was also needed in summer for various purposes.
In the winter, large ice cubes were lifted from the Vantaa river by horsepower and stored in a warehouse covered with sawdust during the summer heat and then delivered to the shops.

Located next to the rapids, the Museum of Technology was founded in 1969, but the buildings date back to 1876.
As the population of Helsinki grew, the importance of hygiene became important in the late 1800s.
Before the water plant, the inhabitants of Helsinki obtained drinking water from wells.
And so, in 1876, the first hydroelectric power station was established to pump clean water to the center of Helsinki.

The rapids or the 'concrete fish ladder', completed in 1986, was demolished in 1998, but restored to its natural state in 1999.
During the summer, when water levels are lower a snake-like movement of the water can be seen.
This allows fish such as rainbow trout to move up and down effortlessly.
Also notice the seated fisherman.

Today, the hydroelectric power station produces electricity for households and the Museum of Technology can be visited.
The area around the rapids has become a popular spot for both fishing and nature lovers.
Thank you for joining, have a nice day and hope to see you again in the next scene ????.
Together we learn, explore and walk through the scenes. ????????
