10 Best place to visit in Ubon Ratchathani Thailand

x

???????? 3 Must-Visits in UBON RATCHATHANI, Thailand.

Ubon Ratchathani is a major city in Northeastern Thailand. It is also considered a gateway to this region. It has got an international airport and I will be flying with Vietjet today.

Nowadays, Vietjet flies to over 10 destinations in Thailand and a lot more destinations across Asia. Vietjet has always got great monthly promotions and several flight options. If you fly to Bangkok from abroad, its flight is a good connection from Suvarnabhumi Airport to other parts of Thailand. And their service is quick too! On the aircraft, you can select your seat with only a small fee.

Ubon Ratchathani boasts the country’s first sunlight each morning. It has a long history and is rich in culture. Local culture there is derived from many roots, including Thai, Lao, Cambodian and others.

#1 Wat Mahawanaram
????

Wat Mahawanaram, as known as Wat Pa Yai, is an ancient temple in Ubon Ratchathani, believed to be built in 1779. It is a place to enshrine Phra Chao Yai In Plaeng, a Buddha image in the attitude of subduing Mara. The name literally means Indra transformed'. There is a stone tablet inlayed behind the Buddha image. This temple is the centre of merit making in Ubon Ratchatahni.

#2 Wat Phra That Nong Bua
????

Wat Phra That Nong Bua is a must-visit place. With its stunning architecture, the highlight of the temple is Sri Maha Pho Chedi which was built in 1956 to honor of 2500 years of Buddhism. The gleaming gold and white chedi at this temple loosely resembles the Mahabodhi stupa in Bodhgaya, India. The old stupa with 5 meters wide and 1 meters high is now housed by the new 55-meter stupa square base.

This temple is where Buddha relics are stored. Visitors can come and pay respect and experience peaceful environment for meditation. During the annual Candle Festival, carved candles in the parade are mostly prepared here.

#3 Khampun Museum of Weaving Culture & Khampun Museum Cafe
????

Khampun Museum is owned by a Thai National Artist - Ajarn Meechai Taesujariya. Ajarn Meechai's love for hand-woven textiles inherited from his mother, Khun Mae Khampun Srisai (คำปุณ ศรีใส). Khun Mae Khampun was named a National Artist for Visual Arts in 2018 and Heritage Artist in 2010. Together with Khun Mae Khampun, Ajarn Meechai has invented weaving techniques and designed textile patterns. They vowed to conserve the age-old skills and knowledge, consequently the founding of Khampun Museum in the compound of Ban (House) Khampun which is open to the public once a year during the Candle Festival while the museum is open daily.

There is a nice café which serves local dishes and a variety of coffee and drinks. The overall atmosphere is serene and charming. This is a highly recommended place to visit.

Hope you enjoyed this short trip with me in Ubon Ratchathani. Stay tuned for more videos from Thailand. Please subscribe!

Exploring the rustic life of Ubon Ratchathani's Khong Jiam District

Destination Thailand discovers cultural and natural travel attractions of the backwater town of Khong Jiam in Ubon Ratchathani Province

Little-visited Ubon Ratchathani is one of Thailand's most interesting provinces. The capital city has plenty of history and charm, as does the laid-back riverside village of Khong Jiam and the fascinating national parks that surround it. The scenery along the Mekong River is often as bizarre as it is gorgeous and Pha Taem National Park has so much to see that it warrants a couple of days.

Ubon Ratchathani | A paradise in the East of Thailand

#ubonratchathani #thailand #travel
Ubon Ratchathani is one of the four major cities of Isan, also known as the big four of Isan. The city is on the Mun River in the southeast of the Isan region of Thailand, and is located 615 km away from Bangkok. It is known as Ubon for short. The name means royal lotus city

Ubon Ratchathani province features plateaus and mountain ranges with the Mun River running through the middle. The region where Ubon Ratchathani borders both Cambodia and Laos has been coined “the Emerald Triangle” in recognition of its magnificent green landscapes. Adding to Ubon Ratchathani’s natural appeal, Phu Chong Nayoi and Pha Taem national parks are two of Isan’s most unspoiled and unvisited natural preserves. Ubon Ratchathani, the north-east's largest city, is also a wonderful place to witness the annual candle festival, a charming Buddhist celebration.

Ubon Ratchathani has many interesting and beautiful places to visit such as Pha Taem National Park, which is famous for its prehistoric rock paintings, Sam Pan Boak or the Grand Canyon of Thailand, Huai Sai Yai waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Northeastern Thailand, Kaeng Saphuee Public park, Wat Tham Khuha Sawan, and Wat Phrathat Nong Bua.

For those who are enthusiastic about local festivals, the Candle Festival on Khao Phansa Day is the most important EVENT of the province, in which huge and elaborately carved candles are paraded throughout the city.

Popular souvenirs from Ubon Ratchathani include hand-woven cotton Cloth, loincloth, silk cloth, folk pattern pillows, and brass wares. For Food lovers, white pork sausage, Thai sweet sausage, and northeastern-style fermented sausage are the must-try.

From Ubon Ratchathani to Khong Chiam - Thailand 4K Travel Channel

The journey takes us along the Mun Rivers from Ubon Ratchathani direction the east to Khong Chiam. The distance is slightly more than 100 km and is the driving time for almost 2 hours. On the way, we pass an OTOP in Sai Mun. OTOP are shops that sell products, on which one has specialized in the region. The OTOP of the village Sai Mun are the traditional drums. The so-called tambols are mainly for the use in temples. They are available in all shapes and sizes.
Khon Chiam is a small place at the confluence of the Mekong and the Mun River. It is the starting point for two different national parks. The Kaeng Tana includes the confluence of the Mun River and the Mekong River.
The Pha Taem National Park is about 20 km further north. Here you should visit the Pha Taem cliff with its 4000 years old rock drawings.
A highlight in Khon Chiam is the beautiful white temple Wat Tham Khuha Sawan. The temple was built in the Ayutthaya period and belongs to the first Royal Temple. From the temple, we will watch the training for the next dragon boat race.

Die sogenannten Tambols werden speziell in Tempel verwendet. Hier gibt es sie in sämtlichen Formen und Größen.

Amazing Green Papaya Salad and Grilled Chicken in Ubon Ratchathani

For more details, click here ►

Ubon Ratchathani is a small city in the Isaan region of Thailand, and one of my favorite restaurants in the city is a place called Pornthip Som Tam Gai Yang – Wat Jaeng (ร้านอาหาร พรทิพย์ส้มตำไก่ย่าง (วัดแจ้ง). The restaurant is well known throughout Ubon Ratchathani, often considered one of the premiere places in the city for the combination of gai yang (grilled chicken) and som tam (green papaya salad). And along with these two signature dishes, they also have numerous other wonderful Thai Isaan food to choose from.

This was my first time to visit Ubon Ratchathani, and for one of my first meals, we headed straight to Pornthip Som Tam Gai Yang – Wat Jaeng (ร้านอาหาร พรทิพย์ส้มตำไก่ย่าง (วัดแจ้ง). Although there are many different types of Thai green papaya salad to order, probably my favorite is version is called Som tam Laos (ส้มตำลาว), green papaya salad that’s named after the country of Laos, and includes slivers of green papaya dressed with lots of pungent fermented fish sauce. This plate of som tam was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life, flavored almost perfectly for my taste buds, and it included a wonderful mixture of ingredients, like a Laos olive, and a handful of sprinkle of white popinac seeds, which have a bit of an earthy green flavor - and I think they go wonderful with a green papaya salad.

Along with the amazing som tam, what Pornthip Som Tam Gai Yang – Wat Jaeng (ร้านอาหาร พรทิพย์ส้มตำไก่ย่าง (วัดแจ้ง) is most well known for throughout Ubon Ratchathani is their grilled chicken. The chicken was nicely marinated, then grilled over low heat, so it was cooked to perfection, and remained juicy with an outstanding smoky flavor. But even better than the actual grilled chicken, was the sauce that it was served with - there were two different types of sauce, both equally wonderful. The first sauce, the light colored sauce, was a combination of chilies and garlic, and I think they might have used a hint of Sprite or some carbonated drink, because it had a little zing to it. The other sauce was a combination of fish sauce and chili flakes. The gai yang (ไก่ย่าง) was marvelous.

Additionally we also ordered the tom saeb graduk moo (ต้มแซ่บกระดูกหมู), pork ribs made into a delicious Isaan style soup. Unlike other restaurants that serve tom saeb in a normal bowl, at this restaurant I liked how they served it in a fire pot so it stayed piping hot for our entire meal. The soup was wonderful, fiery spicy and filled with dry chilies, sour from lime juice, and teeming with fresh herbs like cilantro and mint. I wasn’t planning to order their sausage, sai krok moo yang (ไส้กรอกหมูย่าง), but my wife wanted to try it, so we got an order. It turned out to be just as delicious as everything else, and what I also liked about it was that it seemed a bit less fatty than other versions I’ve had.
