???????? UŽICE, SERBIA (Ужице) - Welcome to Part 14 of my 2022 Serbia Travel series! For the last 3 months, I’ve been travelling around southwestern and central Serbia, but I’ve been based in Užice the whole time - it’s time to revisit this incredible city one more time!
I filmed 2 big videos here in 2021… this is very much the final part of an ‘Užice trilogy’! This time, we head back to the dramatic Stari Grad (Old Town ie a Medieval Fortress) but go one step further up to the cross and viewpoint, which is an adventure in itself!
This area of Serbia is FULL of iconic destinations full of amazing food, history, and architecture - Čačak, Požega, Bajina Bašta, Zlatibor, and more, ideal for your Balkans trip! There’s much more to Serbia than Belgrade and Novi Sad!
This is my 5th visit to Serbia (I was first here in 2019). Two of my trips were heavily impacted by the pandemic, but in 2021 I managed to explore quite extensively, visiting outstanding locations such as Kruševac, Subotica, and Kragujevac!

UŽICE is UNREAL! ???????? | Serbia’s HUGE Dam, KADINJAČA War Memorial & Komplet LEPINJA | Serbia TRAVEL
UŽICE, SERBIA ???????? - Part number 11 of my 2021 Serbia Travel series comes from the stunning Užice in western Serbia, once again. Užice (Ужице) is one of Serbia’s lesser-known cities in relation to tourism yet is absolutely unreal in terms of Serbian food, architecture and history, but most of all, its scenery and landscapes!
I filmed a video in Užice a number of weeks ago, when we checked out Stari Grad (OId Town), which features the monstrous late 13th century fortress. We also ate Komplet Lepinja (awesome Serbian food) at the famous Šuljage, but I always wanted to film a second video!
This time, we compare the Komplet Lepinja (again!) at Blue Moon, visit Kadinjača, which is a war memorial or spomenik complex (monument complex), and walk to Velika Brana (the Great Dam), a HUGE old dam related to Nikola Tesla and the hydroelectric power plant in Užice, based on the Đetinja River (or the Kanyon Đetinje).
If you’re planning to visit Serbia and are looking for activities or things to do in Serbia, Užice has to be on your list! I stayed there for a month as a travel base and I can’t wait to go back!

???????? UŽICE, SERBIA - Welcome to Part 3 of my 2022 Serbia Travel series! It’s time to check out my home base, Užice! I filmed a couple of regular travel videos here last year, but this video is one of my 4K City walkarounds, where we walk around the city for 30 minutes in one shot. We visit Blue Moon (epic Komplet Lepinja), Partizan Square, Hotel Zlatibor, the main street through the centre, the River Đetinja and more!
People often describe Užice as ‘the ugliest city in Serbia’, but I love it. The scenery, history, architecture, people and Serbian food are all amazing. I would seriously recommend! It has also has great bus/train connections to locations such as Zlatibor, Bajina Bašta, Čačak, Požega, Ovčar Banja, and more! Užice is one of my favourite places to visit in Serbia.

These 5 cities are (imo) the best in Serbia to travel to that aren't Belgrade, especially if you will be in Serbia for a while and have time to base yourself in different cities to explore more of the country. This list is also good if you are planning to move to Serbia or or live in Serbia already.

Journey to the Stari Grad, Užice, Serbia
If you ever travel to Užice, come and visit the magnificent remains of this mighty medieval fortress to hear the echoes of times.
Built in the second half of the 14th century on the impregnable cliff, this fortress was the key point of defense of Užice and the caravan road between the Morava Valley and Bosnia. Passing from one hand to another during its history, this fortress became home to many Serbian, Turkish and Austrian reigns. Its story as the fortification has ended in 1863 when it was mined and destroyed according to the protocol signed at the Kanlıca Conference by Mihailo Obrenović.
Now the government take efforts to rebuild this fortress and turn it into a real tourist attraction. It was opened for visitors in March 2022.

OUR STORY
Hey! We're Olivia and Nathan ???????? A couple from California.
We met back in 2014 in Monterey, California. I (Olivia) was a senior in college & Nathan had recently moved back to the area after living in Italy.
After a few “deep life talks” (ones that were so foreign to me) and hearing about the lifestyle Nathan had been creating for himself for the last 6 years, I wanted to spend more time with him.
We started dating and I learned how he’d moved to Cambodia when he was 17, Germany when he was 18, Italy when he was 20, and was itching to travel again.
I was fascinated and wondered HOW THE HECK DID THIS GUY PAY FOR ALL OF THAT?
Nathan would work in California for 2 years, save every dollar he could, move abroad, find a job in that country, live there for 1-2 years and then do it all over again. Each time, he’d learn the language of that country, acquire new skills & make lifelong friends.
I was deeply inspired & wanted to travel with him. After 1 year of working our butts off and saving every dollar we could, we moved to Australia. We lived + worked there for 3 years (learned to speak perfect Australian lol) & created online jobs so we could continue traveling full-time.
We were traveling South America when covid hit, flew home and bought an RV to travel the US.
Down to earth, entertaining, and informative is our goal — we want you to feel like you’re experiencing the day with us.

And the last thing I want to say is... because everyone asks me: there is no problem being black in Serbia. I have experienced ZERO racism in Serbia. The Balkans is the most friendly place I have ever traveled to and a traveler being black in Serbia is not an issue AT ALL.
