Tumut River Brewing Co by Grasshopper Travel

They say if you do what you love you'll never work a day in your life... I dont know if that's entirely accurate, but we do love making our beer, the only thing we like more is seeing you enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your support! About Us... Like all great stories, this tale of sweat, blood, failure, success and poverty, started with two mates and a couple of beers in the shed. Not to mention our very patient partners who have forgone time and money to watch us tirelessly work towards our end goal. Tumut River Brewing Co. How exactly did we get here you might ask? Well it started as a business venture Tim basically decided the town and hopefully his pocket needed a micro brewery, (shallow I know, it gets better). Simon wanted in. As Tim had never brewed beer and Simon was a very casual brewer it was deemed necessary that Tim has a basic understanding of the brewing process. At the same time Tim's world was getting complicated... As everything fell apart around them what started as a requirement to start a brewery became a passion that filled days and nights in the shed. Micro brewery plans were put to one side and life went on. We never stopped brewing! Our equipment grew, our knowledge blossomed, books were read courses attended and through the toughest times in our lives brewing was a constant. We created new beers, new flavours, we made beers that will never be repeated and some that never should have existed in the first place. Years after our plans for world domination had ended and our brewery had been all but forgotten we realised that we had the tools, knowledge and passion to make this thing happen. Without knowing it was happening we had become beer activists, beer judges and most importantly quality craft beer brewers!

Royal Hotel Tumut in NSW by Grasshopper Travel

The Royal Hotel was built in 1854. A man named Henry Moon was responsible, selling his profitable flour mill, which he called ‘Star Flour’ and getting into the Hotel business with his sons. He originally called the hotel “The Rising Moon” and joked that it was run by the Son, Moon and Stars. Since that day there have been plenty more bad jokes told at the Royal, and to this day it remains an excellent choice for a quality feed, cold beer, good laugh or a bad punting tip. Tumut’s Royal Hotel has seen many changes over the last 35 years including the construction of its budget motel separate from the hotel building. The open then closing of a small bottle shop at the rear of the block. The expansion of the retail floor to fit the current restaurant with the most significant change being a major renovation conducted in early 2000s to give the Royal its internal face lift. The Royal boasts 11 ensuited motel style rooms at the rear of the Hotel Block, as well as 8 “Pub” rooms upstairs (shared facilities) for those looking to travel on a tight budget, specializing in short stay accommodation, the Royal has something to suit your needs. The kitchen at the Royal Hotel or as we prefer to call it, “RHT” is open 7 days a week for lunch and 6 days per week for dinner (Mon to Sat), and for breakfast on Sunday mornings from 8.30am, we also have hand made pizzas available late in the evening for those who get peckish. Chef’s Amber Jones and Jess Bevan, along with their team are prepared to cater for patrons and take pride in customer satisfaction. Undoubtedly the youngest team in the district, the team prides themselves on producing quality food every time, with an emphasis on fresh product, don’t be fooled by the age of these young ladies, they are fast becoming known for producing Tumut’s finest food, not just by locals but also by the many visitors to our beautiful town.

Great time of the year to be doing activities outdoors. Walking, cycling, jogging, riding or hiking from the back yard. Country towns have an advantage when it comes to getting away to the Great Outdoors on a long weekend. Especially at this moment in time when there are restrictions placed on people not to wander or travel too far from home.

If the pandemic keeps people locked down for many months, people in the Mega cities may resort to using the underground to get out of there.
Big cities are turning into a prison, imagine that, being locked down in a stinking big smoke city.

People in the suburbia prohibited by the law, not to go and spend time in the Great Outdoors. It is madness.

City Councils should be taken to court, for charging people all kinds of exorbitant taxes and rates. Electricity, water, road, transport, parking fees, airport fees. Big city organizers are morally sick. They are like zoo keepers.

Basic human rights are:
Right to Life.
Right Liberty.
Right to property.

Resting Place by the Tumut River.

Tumut NSW

Regardless of the season, Tumut is an exceptionally pretty country town. Nestled in a valley on the edge of the Snowy Mountains it is surrounded by rolling foothills. As early as the 1850s the European settlers, dreaming of their home, were planting poplars and willow trees along the banks of the Tumut River. It is a town with four distinct seasons - summers can be blisteringly hot (it reached 43°C in 2014); autumns are a riot of reds, oranges, yellows, burgundies and browns; winters commonly see snow on the surrounding hills and fogs and heavy frosts in the valley; and spring, like a European spring, bursts upon the valley which becomes intensely green before burning off with the summer suns. The Tumut River, which runs for 145 km before joining the Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai, flows through the valley. Fertile river flats spread out on either side of it. The rainfall, most of which falls in the winter between June and September, virtually ensures that the valley is green and fertile for most of the year.
Location

Tumut is located 410 km south-west from Sydney and 194 km due west from Canberra. There are two roads to the town from Gundagai - either through Gocup (35 km) or Brungle (37 km). The town is 280 m above sea level.

Tumut is a charming base for enjoying the natural wonders, outdoor adventures and delicious produce of the NSW Snowy Mountains. In the snow season, the picturesque town is a northern gateway to Selwyn Snow Resort.

The name Tumut is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘quiet resting place by the river’. At any time of year, it’s lovely to stroll along Tumut River Walk, winding to the bird-rich Tumut Wetland. In autumn, the leaves turn from green to a beautiful golden colour, lining the river banks.
