From Wikipedia:

Antipas, officially the Municipality of Antipas (Hiligaynon: Banwa sang Antipas; Cebuano: Lungsod sa Antipas; Tagalog: Bayan ng Antipas; Maguindanaon: Inged nu Antipas, Jawi: ايڠايد نو انتيڤاس), is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cotabato, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 26,817 people.

The Municipality of Antipas long before its creation into a regular municipality was just a mere sitio called Buru-Buruan of Barangay Kiyaab of the Municipality of Matalam which is inhabited mostly by Manobos. Due to continuous influx of Christian settlers in the area, the Municipal Council of Matalam passed a resolution in 1963, approved by the defunct Provincial Board of Cotabato and then was consequently recognized as one of the regular barangays of Matalam, Cotabato bearing the name of ANTIPAS.

The name Antipas was derived from anti from the word antique and pas from Passi, two places found in Panay Island. The enthusiasm of the natives and their determination to run their own affairs coupled with the fertility of the soil and a promise of a brighter future of the area brought forth the unified will of the people when they petitioned the National Government through the Provincial Government headed by Governor Carlos B. Cajelo and represented by Assemblyman Jesus Amparo of the Batasang Pambansa. On October 14, 1980, by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 88, approved by President Ferdinand Marcos, ratified by the people of the Municipality of Matalam on December 6, 1980, and ultimately inaugurated on March 7, 1981, Antipas was created as the 15th municipality of Cotabato.

Antipas is centrally located at the heart of Arakan Valley. It is bounded on the southeast by the Municipality of Magpet, on the north-east by the Municipality of Arakan, on the north by the Municipality of President Roxas (north) and Arakan River, on the west by its mother municipality, Matalam and on the south by President Roxas (south).

Reaching The Well Paved Highways Of Tulunan, North Cotabato #tulunan #northcotabato #barmm

After crossing the two towns of Buluan and Datu Paglas in tne Province of Maguindanao in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region In Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), we crossed into a Christian-dominated town of Tulunan in North Cotabato on our way to Mlang for a town burial.

Tulunan, officially the Municipality of Tulunan (Cebuano: Lungsod sa Tulunan; Tagalog: Bayan ng Tulunan; Maguindanaon: Inged nu Tulunan, Jawi: ايڠايد نو تولونن), is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cotabato, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 60,978 people. The Tulunan is derived from a Maguindanaon word “tulun” which means “a place of abundance” or “where grace fall”.[5] The early settlers of the place were mostly Muslim tribes who settled in the lowlands. The nomadic tribes like the B'laans and Bagobos occupied the hills and mountains. The first system of government was datuism and the first ruling datu of the place was believed to be Datu Enok. During the period when Tulunan was ruled by Datu Enok the inhabitants enjoyed the abundance of life through their bountiful harvest from their kaingin. Because of the generosity of nature, the place was named “Tulunan” which was derived from a Muslim word “tulun” which means “abundance of grace”. The early inhabitants consisted of small groups of nomads which subsisted by hunting. They lived a life with few needs which they provided through contacts with other groups changed and improved their way of life. They learned better system of doing things. When Mohammedanism was introduced in Mindanao by the Sharif Kabungsuwan in about 14th century, the influence of religion reached the place through the people who settled and called themselves Maguindanao Muslims. However, there were minority groups such as Bagobos and B’laans who occupied the eastern highland portion.
The most known Muslim leader was Sultan Solaiman. When he died, Datu Mangko Ambag, the nephew continued to reign the jurisdiction with some advisors such as Dappil Tuden, Kasan Kandugon and Datu Parangan. They occupied the lowlands along the banks of the rivers. They made kaingins and fished in the rivers. The famous leader of B’laans was Datu Dempon. Clashes occurred between the Muslims and B’laans which greatly affected the peace and order condition. The marriage of Datu Mangko to one of the beautiful young lass of the B’laans ended the trouble of the two groups. The B’laans were subjugated and placed under the umbrella of Datu Mangko. The addition of the B’laans to the Muslim group gave more strength and bigger income to Datu Mangko. In early part of 1956, a group of leaders made a representation to the defunct Provincial Board of Cotabato headed Datu Udtog Matalam, requested for the separation of Tulunan from mother municipality, M’lang but failed due to the oppositions. The strong determination of the people to be independent was again represented by the group known as the “BIG FIVE” composed by Datu Dabpil Tuden, Arsenio Villamor Sr., Juan Jinen, Mauro Quibrantar and Jose Ordenia succeeded in their mission with flying colors. On August 6, 1961, the late President Carlos P. Garcia signed Executive Order No. 441 separating Tulunan from mother municipality, M’lang. The first appointed officials were Datu Ibrahim Paglas Jr. as the municipal mayor; Arsenio Villamor Sr. as the Vice mayor; Datu Mangko Ambag, Roberto Jover Sr., Benito Cabello and Datu Diadel Kamag as Councilors and the first Municipal Secretary was Antonio Caballero.
Six month prior to the election 1963, Datu Ibrahim Paglas Jr. resigned as Municipal mayor of Tulunan in favor of his candidacy as Municipal mayor of Buluan. And by virtue of succession Vice Mayor Arsenio Villamor Sr. took his reigns and was considered the first Christian Mayor of Tulunan. The result of the 1963 election placed Godofredo Laluyan on the pedestal as the first elected Mayor of Tulunan. However, the 1967 election turned the political wheel in favor of then Mayor Conrado Lemana who oversee the municipality until 1980 when he met his Waterloo. The vote of confidence of the people in the 1980 election was vested to the incumbent Municipal Mayor Josue Faustino. Mayor Faustino is implementing the various programs of the government with diligence and wisdom. Tulunan, North Cotabato is geographically located at the southernmost part of Cotabato Province. On the north, it is bounded by M'lang; Datu Paglas, Maguindanao on the south; by Liguasan Marsh on the west; by Makilala on the north-eastern portion; and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur in the eastern part. Tulunan is politically subdivided into 29 barangays. [6] Each barangay consists of puroks while some have sitios.

Philippine Pursuits ~ Tulunan to Lampangang

A video of our ride back Tulunan to Lampangang, again in the passenger seats of a trike.

There are way more motorbikes on the road right now, and their driving styles are quite daring at times too. We also pass the obligatory number of animals and people on the road, as well as some apparently controlled fires. In addition, there's also a few places where farmers lay out their produce on the road to dry, so we have to navigate around those as well.

Towards the end, the trike's speed also significantly drops as it clearly struggles to carry this many people plus shopped goods back up the slope to Lampangang, which is a good 100m above Tulunan. But it somehow manages that heavy task, and as we arrive, Spike - the family dog - is already waiting for us, happily wagging his tail as he sees us return.

Philippine Pursuits ~ Tulunan to Davao

A video of our bus back from Tulunan to Davao. This time we don't have to change buses, making for one longer ride in place of the three medium-to-short rides we took to get here in the first place.

Since the bus ride takes us along primary roads all the way, most of what we see is houses, villages, towns and cities that seam the roads with little interruption. However, on occasions the roads also pass through fields, forests and plantations.

Shortly after our departure, we also run into the daily rain shower, but that one passes quickly. Afterwards, it's up into the more mountainous segment, where the speed of the bus varies heavily based on the gradient of the road, with uphill climbs being long and strenuous, and downhill segments being quick and pleasant, almost like on a bike ride.

Finally, despite this ride having quite a long coastal segment, and me facing towards the water this time, I should see preciously little ocean along the way due to the fact that most of the time either houses or trees bar the view to the water.
