After a refreshing night with a stunning view from the Zandarashvili Guesthouse, we woke up to a sunny and silent day. We left everything at the guest house and started to wander around the city. We found our way to the historic castle and explored it a little bit. Got some fresh fruits for the breakfast and afterwards. I didn't know about Sighnaghi before coming here, but it proved to be a great city established over the hills.

Sighnaghi is a municipality located in the Kakheti region. It is determined by archeological excavations that this area played an important role since the Paleolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Ages. The territory of Sighnaghi district was formerly known as Kambechovani, and later it was called Kiziki. After the recognition of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia, this side acquired great importance. St. Nino was executed and buried here. Sighnaghi is a word of Turkish origin and means shelter. Sighnaghi municipality is characterized by a diverse landscape. Here you will find bright forests, vast fields and open spaces. The Kilakupra mud volcanoes create a particularly exotic sight. You will also visit interesting monuments in the region. The monasteries of Bodbe and Khirsi are especially famous. The city of Sighnaghi is beautiful with its architectural form and excellent views of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains. It is also called the city-museum.
Sighnaghi Municipality is located in Eastern Georgia, in the Kakheti region. Its administrative center is the city of Sighnaghi. The municipality is bordered by Gurjaani and Sagarejo municipalities to the northwest and west, Dedoplistskaro municipality to the southeast, Lagodekhi municipality to the north and northeast, and the Republic of Azerbaijan. A large part of Sighnaghi municipality is occupied by the Iori plateau. A small part of Gombori ridge also enters on its territory. The highest mountain in the Gombori ridge within the municipality is Choporti (1087 m). Sighnaghi lacks a hydrographic network. There are mostly periodic rivers here. We must distinguish two rivers, the Alazani and the Iori. Thorn bushes are spread on Iori highland. In the southern part of the Iori Plateau we find the bush saltwort, from which soda is extracted. There are floodplain forests along the banks of the river Iori: Tsnori, floodplain poplar, Ialghuni, etc. Oak and hornbeam are noteworthy in the forests of Gombori ridge. There are several types of climate in the territory of Sighnaghi municipality. The Iori plateau has a moderately humid steppe climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The Alazani plain has a moderately humid climate, where the winters are moderately cold and the summers are hot. The Gombori ridge has a moderately humid and moderately warm climate with cold winters and long warm summers. The average annual air temperature ranges from 11.1 ° C to 12.6 ° C.
Sighnaghi is one of the most beautiful and interesting districts and attracts a lot of tourists. Here you will be able to visit important cultural monuments. Among them, the Bodbe Monastery is especially famous, which according to legend, it is built on the place of St. Nino's burial. The city of Sighnaghi is very popular and has a lot of visitors. Paradise called Signagi
I didn't go to Tsnori, but this map really is inadequate. I went to Signagi, which is a few kilometers uphill from Tsnori, and a much more significant town, especially when it comes to tourism.
So in Tbilisi I randomly picked Signagi to be my next destination. Signagi is a small, idyllic mountain town in east Georgia, just over 100km east of Tbilisi. It is actually one of Georgia's smallest towns with only a population of a few thousand, but it is historically a significant town with lot of historical monuments, and it is an important tourism center as well as an important producer of wine and carpets. The town has been inhabited since ancient times, but the name Signagi firts appeared in early 18th century.
A bus from Tbilisi took about two hours and it left from eastern bus station, which was a bit harder to find than the norhtern one. I went there an hour too early, because I wasn't really sure when the minibus was going to leave - there's only a few in one way. During the extra hour I went to wonder around in a local market nearby and it was again amazing to see all the things they sell, from clothes and toys to honey nuts and mushmellows. In a remote part of the market I found an old lady who was selling old money and pins, mostly notes from soviet union decades ago. I had to buy I few, after all, my ex-girlfriend's dad collects notes around the world, and I was pretty sure these ones he doens't already have.
It was around noon when the minibus finally arrived to Signagi. The last 30 minutes of the ride was amazing, as the bus drove along small windy mountain roads. When I finally saw the town of Signagi from the window, I was totally amazed. I can safely say it was the most beautiful town I had ever seen in the most beutiful location ever. I know I constantly say everything is nice, but Signagi really is awesome, see the pictures! The town itself is located on a top of hill, overlooking the vast Alazani valley and the magnificent snow-covered mountains of Greater Caucasus behind the valley. So you could see the old town with it's churches, the forest around it, the valley and the white mountains behind it all at the same time. I felt I could just stare the views for the whole day. In addition, the town of Signagi was recently renovated on a massive scale and was in perfect condition. Each building had been renovated, the beutiful steep streets were clean and everything was in perfect order. The town was small, and there is not much to do for many days, but it is really idyllic - it was a paradise, not least because of the location. When people ask me which was my favourite place during my trip to Armenia and Georgia, I usually answer Signagi. It was totally another world than the rest of Georgia (or Armenia). It was it better condition than such towns in the Alps, and surely much more interesting. Although, again, really small.
I had a home accommodation in mind when I arrived, but I wasn't sure where it was. I started to walk the steep streets towards the church and enjoyed every step of the walk. I couldn't help noticing, however, that the town also seemed a bit dead. But then again, it was low season. Sun was shining all the time which made everything even more beautiful. I couldn't keep my eyes off the views! After walking around a bit I did find the home accommodation, which was a lively big house kept by a local family and full of tourists, mainly young israelis. And what do you know, the house had a terrace overlooking the valley and the snow-covered mountains! I turned out to be the best home accommodation ever. The price was low and it included a home-made dinner with free flow of home-made wine! Each night all the tourists gathered around big tables and ate the delicious food made by the family and drank the wine. But I couldn't help feeling a bit sad for the family - there they lived in the living room amongts all the tourists, giving up all the rooms for other people. No privacy for them. I got the last bed, which was sort of in the hallway, but it didn't matter as the deal was so good otherwise.
After leaving my stuff to the room, I started to walk towards St Nino monastery, which was located about 2 kilometers downhill ...

This is the village life in Georgia where i got to make breads and see the cheese. Villages in Georgia of the Caucasus region are known for cheese, breads and wine and beautiful monastery. We did a day trip to the village and monastery and paid 200 Lari for two people.

I flew the Twin Otter into Mestia in the Greater Caucasus Mountains of Georgia. In the film the snow capped ridge is the border of Russia. The strip is 4000 ft long an if you do not make the landing the area for the go around is very tight even for a Twin Otter. You will not that the strip has no straight in approach and one must make about a 65 degree left turn onto final. Enjoy

Едем к водопаду, который находится в Лагодехи. (Кахетия, Грузия) Сняла дорогу к нему и сам водопад. Дорога без подготовки - нелёгкая, на обратном пути заплутали... Короче смотрите видео)))
