Jvari Monastery Georgian is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta, eastern Georgia. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Jvari is a rare case of the Early Medieval Georgian church that survived to the present day almost unchanged. The church became the founder of its type, the Jvari type of church architecture, prevalent in Georgia and Armenia. Built atop of Jvari Mount (656 m a.s.l.), the monastery is an example of harmonious connection with the natural environment, characteristic to Georgian architecture.
Jvari Monastery stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia.
According to traditional accounts, on this location in the early 4th century Saint Nino, a female evangelist credited with converting King Mirian III of Iberia to Christianity, erected a large wooden (or vine) cross on the site of a pagan temple. The cross was reportedly able to work miracles and therefore drew pilgrims from all over the Caucasus. A small church was erected over the remnants of the wooden cross in c.545 during the rule of Guaram I, and named the Small Church of Jvari, which can still be seen adjacent to the main church from the north.
The small church did not satisfy the needs of popular piligrimage site, and the present building, or Great Church of Jvari, is generally held to have been built between 590 and 605 by Guaram's son Erismtavari Stepanoz I. This is based on the Jvari inscriptions on its facade which mentions the principal builders of the church: Stephanos the patricius, Demetrius the hypatos, and Adarnase the hypatos. Professor Cyril Toumanoff disagrees with this view, identifying these individuals as Stepanoz II, Demetre (brother of Stepanoz I), and Adarnase II (son of Stepanoz II), respectively.[1] Nino's cross remained inside of the church, and its original postament can still be found here.
In the 10th century the was burned by Arabs, but it managed to survive with only minor repairments.
The importance of Jvari complex increased over time and attracted many pilgrims. In the late Middle Ages, the complex was fortified by a stone wall and gate, remnants of which still survive. During the Soviet period, the church was preserved as a national monument, but access was rendered difficult by tight security at a nearby military base. After the independence of Georgia, the building was restored to active religious use. Jvari was listed together with other monuments of Mtskheta in 1994 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

I had the pleasure of exploring Tbilisi on the way to giving a math talk at Sokhumi State University (სოხუმის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტი). This is the first of four cities in Georgia that I visited to give math talks and I was constantly impressed by the hospitality of the Georgian people and all the wonders I found. Next stop: Batumi!

Is this the BEST CAMP in all of GEORGIA?! (Ushguli)
In this episode of We Are Adventure Riders, we bring you one of our best videos yet, from one of our favourite days of the trip!
A challenging off road route takes us through mud and water to the medieval mountain town of Ushguli, in the Svaneti Region. Deep in the Caucasus mountains, this beautiful little village is one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe.
After stashing the bikes at a guest house, we set off on foot for a 2 day, 30km, hike in the surrounding peaks. A tough first day climb takes us up over a mountain pass, where we soon stumble upon one of the most stunning wild camp camp spots we have ever seen... Completely alone, we felt entirely grateful.
Day 2 begins badly, as we quickly lose the trail and find ourselves scaling the steep side of an actual mountain! Luckily we all make it safely and continue the hike back down the other side and back towards Ushguli.
What an unbelievable few days in this little slice of heaven.

THE MOST REMOTE VILLAGE IN GEORGIA
ushguli is in the far mountainous north of georgia 6 kilometers from the Russian border.it is nested in the caucasus Mountains.
There are four villages that make up Ushguli, Svaneti, one of the region's most remote outposts and Europe's highest permanent settlement. The road from Mestia to Ushguli is by far the most dangerous in Europe, with steep dropoffs, narrow greasy winding road far above the fast running rivers below. Fraught with avalanches, mudslides and water washouts, this road can be treacherous.
The village is completely shut off from the outside world for more than 6 months of the year and the local people have to live off what they grow in the summer months. Ushguli is also one of the most stunning places we have ever seen, we incredible views over the High Caucasus mountain range and Georgia's highest peak - Mount Shkhara (5193 metres).
the people of USHGULI speaking an archaic Georgian dialect and practising a version of ortodox christianity owing much to earlier belifes, svans as unsophisticated(although, sensibly, they do it quietly).

Ушгули находится на крайнем горном севере Грузии, в 6 километрах от границы с Россией. Он гнездится в горах Кавказа.
Четыре деревни составляют Ушгули, Сванетию, один из самых отдаленных аванпостов региона и самое высокогорное постоянное поселение в Европе. Дорога из Местии в Ушгули, безусловно, самая опасная в Европе, с крутыми обрывами, узкой замасленной извилистой дорогой далеко над быстрыми реками внизу. Эта дорога, чреватая лавинами, оползнями и смывами воды, может быть коварной.
Деревня полностью изолирована от внешнего мира более 6 месяцев в году, и местные жители вынуждены жить за счет того, что они выращивают в летние месяцы. Ушгули также является одним из самых потрясающих мест, которые мы когда-либо видели, с невероятным видом на горный хребет Высокого Кавказа и самую высокую вершину Грузии - гору Шхара (5193 метра).
жители УШГУЛИ, говорящие на архаичном грузинском наречии и исповедующие вариант православного христианства, во многом обязанный более ранним верованиям, сваны столь же бесхитростны (хотя, разумно, делают это тихо).

Путешествие в Грузию. Зелёное озеро - чудо в горах Аджарии
Туристам на заметку.
Зеленое озеро, о красоте которого ходят легенды, расположено на севере Арсианского хребта. Недалеко от перевала Годерзи на высоте 2133м, от уровня моря. Поблизости расположен бальнеологический курорт Бешуми, где даже воздух лечит от множества болезней и наполняет тело жизненной энергией. Со всех сторон озеро окаймлено хвойными и лиственными лесами. Питают его поземные ключи, поэтому вода не только прозрачна, но и вполне пригодна для питья. Более того, озерная вода – минеральная, ведь родники, наполняющие его, богаты элементами таблицы Менделеева. Но туристы пьют воду из ключа, который протекает рядом с озером. К этому природному водоему рекомендуется идти с палатками, потому что остановиться на пару дней у воды, однозначно, стоит. На озере можно сделать отличные панорамные фотографии, пейзажи и селфи. В конце августа встречается ежевика, это одна из самых популярных ягод в горах Аджаии. Свое название озеро получило из-за насыщенного бирюзового окраса. Но его уникальность заключается не только в окрасе. Зеленое озеро расположено в альпийской зоне, где зимой постоянно держится минусовая температура. В горах летом холодно, а уж зимой морозно особенно. Но какая бы низкая температура ни была, а в горах она часто держится в районе –10 –20, Зеленое озеро не замерзает. Объяснить эту особенность сложно, так как вода стоит, и нет ни горячих, ни теплых источников, питающих озеро. Более того, вода на озере всегда холодная, даже прогретая летним солнцем, она достаточно прохладна.

???? ???? The USAID/Georgia Economic Security Program, in partnership with The Gastronomic Association of Georgia, started a new project “Discover Georgian Gastronomy”. Within the project mini-movie series will be produced on Georgian Regional Gastronomy & Destinations. The main idea of the project is to shine a spotlight on 6 different regions of Georgia with its unique gastronomic traditions - it’s all about exploration and discovery of the hidden gastronomy gems of the country.
???? The video series is meant to become vehicles to paint the country of Georgia as a beautiful and accessible destination on the frontier of food and dining in the webspace and different online platforms and to promote its rich gastronomic heritage. A destination is highlighted through Georgian famous influencer Chefs discovering a region’s full culinary ecosystem from terroir, produce and cuisine to artisanal producers, bazaars, local experts, home cooks, and colorful Georgian feast traditions.

Грузия. Тбилиси. Крепость Нарикала, церковь святого Николая, монумент Мать Грузия с DJI MINI 2
В декабре с другом совершили поездку в Грузию на неделю. Провели 4 дня в Тбилиси и 3 неполных дня в Батуми. Смотрели достопримечательности, наслаждались грузинской кухней и конечно я снимал видео как на камеру так и на мой дрон DJI MINI 2.
Это видео про съёмки с дрона крепости Нарикала в столице Грузии и облёт монумента Мать Грузия.
Нарика́ла (вернее, Нирин-кала; груз. ნარიყალა, ნარინ კალა «нижняя/маленькая крепость») — крепостной комплекс различных эпох в Старом Тбилиси, на правом скалистом берегу Куры. Точное время основания крепости в Тбилиси неизвестно, но в IV веке она уже существовала и называлась Шу́рис-Ци́хе (შურის ციხე «крепость-соперник»).
Церковь Святого Николая (груз. ნარიყალას წმინდა ნიკოლოზის ეკლესია) — храм грузинской православной церкви в Тбилиси, находится в крепости Нарикала. Современное здание церкви представляет собой новодел 1996 года (архитектор Тариэль Кипароидзе), возведённый на раскрытых в 1966 году в ходе археологических раскопок фундаментах. Храм Святого Николая в крепости известен с XII века. Упоминается царевичем Вахушти (1730).
Мать Грузия (груз. ქართვლის დედა — Картлис Деда) — монумент в столице Грузии, городе Тбилиси, ставший одним из символов Тбилиси. Статуя символизирует грузинский национальный характер: женская фигура держит в левой руке чашу с вином для приветствия тех, кто пришёл как друг, а в правой руке меч для тех, кто пришёл как враг.

Haunted Christmas in Warsaw (Warszawa) ep. 1: Osiedle Dudziarska
I was in Warsaw again this Christmas and decided to go to spice things up a bit by going to Kozia Górka near Praga Południe for some urbex. Osiedle Dudziarska was constructed as a place to put residents of Praga who were unable to pay their rent. Unfortunately, the three apartment buildings were built in an empty field with no infrastructure. Thus, there was no heat, hot water, or many other basic amenities that anyone could expect. Moreover, there wasn't even anywhere to buy basic groceries nearby and several people have died trying to cross the railroad tracks to access basic infrastructure in the city. The last resident left in 2019 and unfortunately, it seems we barely missed being able to explore these buildings. But, there was plenty of other interesting stuff in the surrounding region of Kozia Gorka.
