We made the decision to finish our time in Italy by venturing down South so some INCREDIBLE towns in the Puglia (Apulia) and the Basilicata region of Italy. We tried some of the best food we've had (Literally one food made top 3 of all time/all countries on my list) and explore 3 beautiful southern Italian cities. The ancient city of Matera, the Spartan settled Taranto and the gorgeous port city of Bari. Eating italian street food the entire time! (and probably some of the best food in the south of Italy)

With olive groves and rugged coastline, Puglia is one of the more rustic parts of Italy. Located in the country’s south-east, Puglia includes what most people call the “heel” of Italy, also known as the Salentine Peninsula and including the cities of Bari and Lecce. It’s not very well-known in the UK, but to the French it is a beloved destination.
Resorts like Polignano al Mare are teaming with sun-worshipers, looking for a little strip of Mediterranean sand to go and lie on. Which is easier said than done, because the beaches aren’t massive.
When British people think about Italy, they tend to think of Rome, Venice, Florence, the Amalfi Coast, Milan and the lakes, even Sicily, but Puglia is proof there’s a whole lot more to it than that.
With the coastline littered with small fortified towns, Puglia distinctly has a colour scheme. The buildings are limestone or painted white, with cute little blue or green shutters. And all the boats are blue too! It’s simple, but absolutely beautiful.
Inland, Puglia borders the incredibly rustic Basilicata. With the Appenine Mountains forming the spine of Italy, the further inland you go, the more mountainous it becomes, with towns and villages clinging high on the mountainsides, built to take advantage of their vantage points across the valleys below. The views are absolutely spectacular from the top, but the streets are narrow, winding and Google maps gets completely lost when you’re zigzagging your way through the ancient alleyways. And while the coast is thoroughly used to welcoming tourists, the inland towns are a lot less prepared, so you’ll struggle to find anywhere for lunch when everything shuts for four hours in the middle of the day.
Toward the bottom of the heel and you come to the city of Lecce. If Lecce was in any other country, it would be trumpeted as the nation’s tourist hotspot, but because it lives in the permanent shadow of the other more famous Italian cities, it has remained relatively undiscovered. But there’s a reason why it’s known as the “Florence of the South”, with its medieval streets littered with Baroque architecture that could rival Rome itself. Because of its location, a city has been in this spot since before even the Romans, with a city existing here since at least the time of the Trojan War when it was colonised by the Mycenean Greeks. And the evidence of its long and glorious past can be seen throughout its remarkably preserved historic centre.
Puglia is the hottest part of Italy, with temperatures of forty plus degrees in summer not that uncommon. It borders the Adriatic Sea to the East, so the prevailing winds are coming from inland. But if you do need to cool down, I can think of worse places than heading underground to some of the remarkable Grottos that honeycomb the bedrock of parts of the area. We went to the Grotta del Trullo, which were remarkable caverns dripping with stalactites and stalagmites. So why is it called Grotta del Trullo? I’m glad you asked.Yes, but I know you wanted to. It’s because there’s a trullo on top of it! And what’s a trullo, you ask? Trullos are small whitewashed houses with stone cone roofs that are unique to this area of Italy. And nowhere can you see more of these distinctive buildings than in Alberobello.
The people of the area were forced to build trulli because their particularly mean landlords wanted them to live in structures that could be easily knocked down when they tired of having them living on their land. Trulli were traditionally dry-stone buildings, built without any mortar, which meant they could be dismantled easily and reduced to just a pile of stones. But thankfully, thousands of these have survived to the present day, with most of them here in this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Turkey is a big country full of different cultures, wonderful people and amazing things to see. And within all the beauty, there is also a bucket load of weird hidden places that you may not have known where hiding there. So, in order to get to know the place better, we bring you these 10 Weird places hidden in Turkey.
1) Pamukkale
Located on the outskirts of an ancient city in the Denizli province, these rock formations have been formed over millennia by carbonate deposits, funnelled into unusual terraces by hot springs and streams. Some people believe that the waters have healing powers.
2) Nemrut Dagi
This eerie site, filled with ancient statues, is thought to be the ancient tombs of King Antiochus, built in the first century. The mountain, located near Adiyaman in southeastern Turkey, contains statues of King Antiochus, lions, eagles and various Greek and Armenian gods.
3) Mount Ararat
This is a dormant volcano and some scholars believe that this is the site where Noah pitched up his ark after the great flood. A 2007 expedition found seven large wooden compartments near the peak of the mountain that correspond to the way an ancient ark would have been constructed and the wood is around 4,800 years old.
4) The Trojan Horse
Most people think that Troy is as fictional as the Cyclops or the Sirens who tried to tempt Odysseus to his death. Today, you can wander around the ruins of the ancient city, climb inside a replica of the Trojan horse, and imagine the battle that sacked one of the most important cities of the ancient world.
5) Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
This tomb was built by the Greek architects for Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire, and his sister-wife Artemisia II of Caria. It was 45 m (148 ft) high, and the four sides were adorned with sculptural reliefs but was destroyed by successive earthquakes. Today, you can see its ruins. This is the origin of the word mausoleum
6) Cappadocia’s cave houses
A number of Goreme residents live in dwellings carved out of the rock, or in large cave structures beneath the ground. Visitors to the area can stay in hotels hewn out of rock faces, and visit underground Byzantine churches.
7) The Temple of Artemis
Located at Ephesus, this was rebuilt twice and was described by some as the most spectacular of the ancient wonders. You can see the foundations and some ruins at the ancient city of Ephesus.
8) Mardin’s sandstone buildings
Mardin was built 4000 years ago entirely of yellow chalk stone. The houses are decorated with different motifs but on the whole are very similar, giving the whole city a slightly unreal look, like a film set. Most of the tourists get lost in its maze like streets.
9) Myra's rock tomb
In ancient times, the wealthy and important citizens of Myra were placed in tombs carved out of the hillside. These beautiful necropoli are haunting monuments to their mysterious occupants who died thousands of years ago, still watching over their ancestors.
10) Gemiler island
The island's ruined church is believed to contain St Nicholas' tomb (patron of sailors). Around 650 AD the remains were transferred to Demre, but pilgrims still visit Gemiler to pay homage to the saint who inspired the modern-day Santa Claus and visit the ruins of the ancient church

According to legend, Ancient Rome was founded by the two brothers, and demi-gods, Romulus and Remus, on 21 April 753. The legend claims that, in an argument over who would rule the city (or, in another version, where the city would be located) Romulus killed Remus and named the city after himself. This story of the founding of Rome is the best known but it is not the only one. Other legends claim the city was named after a woman, Roma, who traveled with Aeneas and the other survivors from Troy after that city fell. Upon landing on the banks of the Tiber River, Roma and the other women objected when the men wanted to move on. She lead the women in the burning of the Trojan ships and so effectively stranded the Trojan survivors at the site which would eventually become Rome. Aeneas of Troy is featured in this legend and also, famously, in Virgil's Aeneid, as a founder of Rome and the ancestor of Romulus and Remus, thus linking Rome with the grandeur and might which was once Troy.
22- Marettimo - Îles Égades - Sicile - Italie | Explore l’île avec moi
Découvre avec moi l’île Marettimo qui se trouve dans l’archipel des îles Égades en Sicile

Après avoir fait les 2 autres principales îles de l’archipel des îles Egade j’ai gardé Marettimo pour la fin et je ne regrette pas mon choix.
Cette île fut longtemps considérée comme sacrée
En effet dans l’Odyssée sa position géographique coïncide avec Ithaque qui est la patrie d’Ulysse.
Autrefois elle était une importante escale des navigateurs ou bateaux de commerces faisant route entre Carthage et Rome.
Cette île fait le double de Levanzo en superficie : 12km2 (contre 6km2 pour Levanzo) ainsi que pour son nombre d’habitants au nombre de 700.
Les installations touristiques sont également peu nombreuses afin de la préserver.
Tout comme la voiture qui est interdite sur l’ensemble de l’île... ce qui est un véritable bonheur.
Marettimo est appelé également la Perle de la Méditerranée car elle est considérée comme une des plus belles îles de cette partie du globe.
Si vous ne faites pas de plongées ou si vous n’aimez pas lézarder à la plage, vous pouvez faire plusieurs randonnées
Dans un premier temps vous pouvez vous rendre au château à la pointe Punta Troia
(on le voit depuis le village, il est suspendu au flanc d’une falaise dans un coin de l’île)
Le chemin se prend à droite de l’île (lorsque vous la regardez d’en face)
Les guides disent que le chemin dure 1h40 à 2h moi j’ai mis 1h15 à l’aller et 50 minutes au retour
Le chemin n’est pas très dur, il est plutôt bien aménagé mais il y a quelques montées et descentes.
Il est possible de le visiter (juste une pièce en haut et 3 petites pièces en bas )
L’entrée est gratuite, on donne ce que l’on veut pour la visite guidée
(pour info : cela ouvrait à 10h30 mais ils ne sont arrivés qu’à 11h)
Ensuite je suis allé au phare à la pointe Punta Libeccio avec sa plage (Cala Nera) juste au bas des falaises.
Le vieux phare abandonné est magnifique. Contrairement à celui de Levanzo toutes les portes (y compris celle de la maison) sont scellées et cadencées!
Donc toute investigation interdite! Dommage...
Le chemin pour y aller se prend sur la gauche du village (lorsqu’on le regarde en face)
Il est bien aménagé mais je vous conseille de prendre de bonnes chaussures de marches car à plusieurs endroits il y a des cailloux qui font mal aux pieds.
J’ai mis 1h45 (uniquement calculé sur le retour qui a plus de descentes que l’aller)
Après le phare vous pouvez aller jusqu’à la pointe Punta Libeccio il y a de très belles vues du phare dominant sur les falaises.
Vous ne pourrez pas aller plus loin car aucun chemin n’y est aménagé.
Au final je vous conseille vivement de faire cette île qui est paisible et très charmante. Peut-être ressentirez-vous, comme moi, ses bonnes ondes et ses effluves sacrées.
Je ne saurais le décrire mais il y a quelque chose de mystique qui s’y dégage...
