Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore a Milano ~ 10 Marzo 2023 | Lombardia
La basilica di San Lorenzo, il cui nome completo è basilica collegiata prepositurale di San Lorenzo Maggiore (nota in epoca paleocristiana come basilica palatina ed oggi anche come San Lorenzo alle Colonne), è una basilica cattolica di Milano. Tra le più antiche chiese della città, l'edificio fu ricostruito e modificato più volte nelle forme esterne conservando quasi completamente la primitiva pianta di epoca tardo-imperiale, che fu realizzata tra il 390 e il 410: assieme alle antistanti colonne di San Lorenzo, un tempo parte dell'antiportico dell'edificio, è considerata tra i maggiori complessi monumentali di epoca romana tardoimperiale di Milano, nel periodo in cui la città romana di Mediolanum (la moderna Milano) era capitale dell'Impero romano d'Occidente (ruolo che ricoprì dal 286 al 402). La basilica è inoltre ritenuta essere il primo edificio a simmetria centrale dell'Occidente Cristiano ed è una delle basiliche paleocristiane di Milano.
Il primigenio nome basilica palatina, poi cambiato in San Lorenzo, deriva dalla vicinanza del Palazzo imperiale romano di Milano, chiamato genericamente palatium. Il periodo tra l'XI e il XII secolo risultò molto travagliato per l'edificio: pesantemente rovinato da due incendi nel 1071 e nel 1075, la sua cupola crollò nel 1103, per poi essere di nuovo distrutta assieme a parte dell'edificio in un altro incendio nel 1124. La chiesa fu quindi ricostruita in forme romaniche pur conservando inalterato l'impianto interno originale.
Se per tutto il Medioevo la basilica di San Lorenzo rimase un simbolo dell'eredità imperiale romana a Milano, nel Rinascimento il tempio divenne un simbolo dei canoni classici perduti ricercati dagli umanisti, nonché un celebre caso di studio per le soluzioni statiche adottate per reggere una cupola così monumentale, e fu studiata tra gli altri dal Bramante, Filarete, Leonardo e Giuliano da Sangallo.
La pianta, la cui struttura è rimasta pressoché immutata dalla sua fondazione, è formata da un quadrato ed un cerchio sovrapposti, propriamente chiamato tetraconco, ovvero una pianta centrale di forma quadrata con quattro absidi, uno per lato. L'aula è quindi organizzata con una struttura concentrica alla pianta esterna a formare un deambulatorio attorno ad essa, quindi di forma ottagonale con pilatri triangolari traforati ed esedre porticate su due ordini orizzontali sovrapposti, in corrispondenza degli absidi: l'inferiore con pilastri di ordine dorico ed il superiore di ordine ionico che funge da matroneo. Dell'antica basilica paleocristiana sono giunte sino a noi la cappella di Sant'Aquilino e la cappella di Sant'Ippolito. [...]

Our Ukraine Travel Series started in Kyiv (Київ) the Capital of Ukraine. We had 10 days to see as much of country as we could. We spent the first few days exploring and eating our way around Kyiv, including a haunting but memorable day trip to Chernobyl and the ghost town of Pripyat. You can watch this as a separate video.
Moving on south west of the country we took an overnight train to Ivano-Frankivsk before taking a hire car up into the Carpathian Mountains. Bad weather in the mountains restricted what we could achieve, before driving north to Lviv. Our final day was spend flying back to Kyiv to catch our flight home to the UK.

Haunting Abandoned Airplanes Around the World!
As you can probably imagine, aircraft are incredibly expensive to produce, maintain and fly. Which is what makes it all the stranger that someone should just abandon one! Even so, it does happen. Quite a lot! Here are 10 Most Stunning Abandoned Airplanes!
1. Bristol Freighter Type 170
This aircraft was designed to carry cargo for WWII, but WWII was finished before the plane got built so it used for commercial flights instead. In the 12 years it was in production, 214 planes were made, and of these, 68 had accidents, so it's not surprising that today only 13 aircraft remain intact. One of these remaining aircraft lies abandoned on Beaverlodge lake in Canada. In 1956, the plane had landed on the frozen lake and was braking when the left main gear broke through the ice, this caused the left wing to hit the ice and bend. The plane was later deemed irreparable, dragged to the edge of the lake, and abandoned.
2. Lockheed Jetstar
Elvis Presley owned 3 jets, 1 was a Convair 880 called Hound Dog II, the second was a Lockheed Jetstar called Lisa Marie, both planes can be found on display in the Graceland Museum. His third plane was also a Lockheed Jetstar that Elvis bought in 1976 and then sold in 1977.
3. Belgium Hangar
A Belgium man called Laurent Burnier discovered an abandoned hangar hidden in the countryside. Inside were 5 damaged airplanes, 4 Stampe SV.4 fuselages, dozens of jet engines all lined up in neat rows, and around 30 to 40 wings perfectly stored.
4. Swamped B17
Captain Frederick Eaton jr was flying this Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress during a raid on Japanese ships over Papua New Guinea on February 23, 1942, when he was intercepted by the Japanese. During the fight, he ran out of fuel and was forced to make an emergency landing in a swamp, the crew survived but the plane wasn't salvaged because the war was still being fought.
5. Russian Buran space shuttle.
The Buran was Soviet Russia's answer to NASA's Orbiter space shuttle and it completed its first unmanned flight in 1988. It was programmed to have a second, longer, unmanned flight by 1993 but the dissolution of the Soviet Union led to a lack of funding, and the project was abandoned. The Buran and two additional incomplete orbiters were put into a hangar for storage.
6. Carlos Lehder's C-46
Just off-shore of the Normans cay island is a semi-submerged Curtis C-46. In the late 1970s, the Island of Norman's cay was used by the Medellin Cartel for drug smuggling. One day a pilot called British Andy was in Florida when he saw a Curtis C-46 that he thought Carlos Lehder might want to use for his Normans cay smuggling operation, and so he flew it to the island. After several days of heavy drinking British Andy decided to do some test take-offs and landings. As he approached for the first landing he miscalculated, touched down too early, and clipped a mound of earth that ripped off the left gear causing the plane to tip, the left propellor then struck the runway.
7. Bartini Beriev VVA-14
Soviet Russia wanted to develop an aircraft that could take out US Polaris missile submarines. For this, they required an aircraft that could fly long distances at altitude, take-off and land vertically from land or sea, and fly low and slow over the ocean by taking advantage of the Ground effect. To accomplish this, they hired the Italian aircraft designer Robert Bartini. By the end of 1972, Bartini had completed stage 1 and his VVA-14 prototype completed its first flight, taking off from a conventional runway.
8. 737 airliner Mumbai
A decommissioned Boeing 737 was being dismantled and transported through the Indian city of Mumbai, at night. The truck driver transporting the fuselage got lost and took a wrong turn and ended up in a narrow street with a flyover too low for him to pass under. Unable to move forward or turn around the driver decided to unhitch the trailer and abandon the 75ft/23m long fuselage in the middle of the street.
9. MiG in Iraq.
When allied forces invaded Iraq in 2003, they didn't find the weapons they were looking for, they did, however, find something rather strange at Al-Taqaddum Air Base. Hidden under camouflage netting, hardened aircraft shelters, and even buried in the sand were 51 abandoned aircraft. MiG-25s, Su-25ks, MiG-21s, various F-7Bs, and even an Ilyushin Il-76 transport. It is still unknown when or why these aircraft were abandoned.
10. More Abandoned MiGs
In Hungary, in a farmer's field are over 70 MiG-21 aircraft that still belong to the Hungarian military. These Soviet-built planes were initially sent to the field in the 1980s in preparation for a scheduled upgrade program, however, the fall of communism in Hungary and the dissolution of the Soviet Union meant that these upgrades were delayed and then canceled. So now, these out-of-date planes just sit in this field, ghostly echos of a troubled past.

Pisa Charterhouse, also known as Calci Charterhouse (Certosa di Pisa, Certosa di Calci), is a former Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, currently the home of the Museo di storia naturale e del territorio dell'Università di Pisa (Museum of Natural History and of the Territory of the University of Pisa), located in the comune of Calci, some 10 km outside Pisa, Tuscany, Italy.
The monastery is noted for the fresco of the Last Supper, by Bernardino Poccetti (1597), in the refectory.

A spasso per la Città Alta di Bergamo - Italy
In un caldo pomeriggio di novembre, partiamo alla volta di Bergamo, precisamente nella Città Alta, su invito di Guide Turistiche Città di Bergamo ( che gentilmente si sono offerti per farci da guida per la città. Insieme a noi, anche un gruppo di travel bloggers hanno partecipato all'incontro. L'associazione è in collaborazione con Visit Bergamo ( che ci hanno fornito il materiale per poterci orientare in città e la conoscenza sulla storia di questa bellissima città medievale.
Il passato di Bergamo è un po' travagliato, conquistata da più popoli, abbattuta e ogni volta ricostruita, lasciando dietro di se, tracce del suo passato. Oggi si presenta come una città antica, fatta da viuzze strette e in salita, locali tipici e scorci di panorami incredibili.
Per arrivare alla Città Alta dalla Città Bassa, occorre prendere la funicolare, in cui potrete godere di ottimi viste panoramiche, per giungere proprio nel cuore della parte antica. Appena le porte si apriranno rimarrete subito incantati dalla città. In alternativa potrete percorrere tutto il tragitto a piedi, passeggiando per le vie in salita, tra muri antichi e case private. Se doveste scegliere per la seconda opzione, vi consigliamo di fare ugualmente un giro nella stazione funicolare.
Una volta giunti non potrete farvi mancare una passeggiata tra la Cinta Muraria, candidata all'Unesco, dove uno skyline si presenta magnifico a voi, soprattutto al tramonto e di sera, quando le luci s'accendono per tutta la città.

In questo caso siamo in trasferta, nella bellissima #Paestum! Nonostante tutto, durante il viaggio estivo, sono riuscito a trovare qualche cosa di modellistico..ma in questo caso ho il piacere di spiegarvi la storia di questa bellissima cittadina, con templi e strutture molto molto particolari.. passiamo dal periodo greco fino ad arrivare al periodo romano!

Ho cercato di lasciarvi le pillole principali di questo museo a cielo aperto, che fa parte del @parcoarcheologicodipaestum8761 e che anche la @rai ha mostrato nella bellissima trasmissione di #Alberto Angela! Quasi un onore poter provare a fare un video in un luogo che ha spiegato magistralmente!
Sicuramente dovete passarci, per una bellissima visita anche al museo che si trova lì vicino. Una chicca che vi consiglio è poi passare di sera.. non vi dico nulla, vi invito solo ad andarci!
Il tempio che più ti stupisce è quello appena all'ingresso del parco, ovvero il tempio di Nettuno, di attribuzione incerta, ma che mi piace seguire nella descrizione che viene data.

LYNGEN ALPS: Breakdowns & Adventures along Norway's MOST SCENIC mountain range //EPS.10 EXPED. NORTH
Between two Fjords rises a rough mountain chain in the far north of Norway: the Lyngen Alps. Join our troubled journey to this little mountain paradise - including a broken motorcycle, a swollen foot and a hospital visit.
We left Senja island - but not before enjoying it's beautiful landscape inlands - and started the day off with a Highlight: Having cake for breakfast in the town Finnsnes. Our inital plan was to go to
Tromsø but on the way we decided to skip the city and pick another way: Rout 91 that leads from Fagernes to two ferries that carried us over Ullsfjorden and Lyngenfjord. The scenery of the Lyngen Alps was beautiful - but we had to deal with two other incidents: My foot was terribly swollen from the insects bites and the Ducati if my travel partner started to leak oil.

Edremit Mehmetalan Köyü Gezisi (Tahtacı Türkmen Köyü)
Merhaba dostlar, bugün Kaz Dağları eteklerinde bulunan Mehmetalan Köyü ne geldik. Mehmetalan Köyü nü birlikte gezeceğiz. Kaz Dağları nda Tahtacı Türkmen köyü olan Mehmetalan hakkında köylülerden bilgiler toplamaya çalışacağız. Balıkesir in Büyükşehir olması ile Edremit ilçesine bağlı bir mahalle olan Mehmetalan Köyü, yaklaşık 200 yıl önce kuruldu. Köy halkının başlıca geçim kaynağı zeytinciliktir.

Öncelikle ulaşımı hakkında kısa bilgi vermek istiyorum. Bu köye ulaşmak için Edremit üzerinden Akçay istikametine giderken sağda Zeytinli tabelasını gördüğünüzde giriş yaparak birkaç km sonra Zeytinli Köyü’ne ulaşıyorsunuz. Köyün tam ortasından geçerek yine birkaç km sonra Mehmetalan Köyü’ne ulaşacaksınız. Buraya kadar yol asfalt. Köyde 300 metre yüksekliğe kadar zeytin ağaçlarının, sonra yer yer tespih, sandal, meşe ve 600 - 800 metre yüksekliğe kadar hakim ağaç olan kızıl çamların arasından geçerek köyün 3 km ilerisindeki milli park giriş noktasından belli bir ücret ödemek karşılığında kaz dağları milli parkına girilebilir. ayrıca bu köyde bulunan kamp alalarında konaklayıp dereye girilebilir.
