CRISTO REI LISBON PORTUGAL | How to visit Christ The King | Boat Across the Tagus River

How to travel to visit the Cristo Rei statue in Lisbon, Portugal.

We spent an amazing day visiting this iconic statue that stands tall on the Almada side of the Targus river, looking over the city of Lisbon.

Watch to see how we crossed the river using the public ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas and then walked up to the sanctuary on top of the hill in Almada.

It is a cheap and easy day out in Lisbon and the views are spectacular from the sanctuary. The sanctuary is free to enter and it cost only €5 to ascend to the viewpoint at the Cristo Rei statue.

Travel on the local ferry and take a picnic lunch and you have an excellent and very cheap day out!

Lisbon discovery: Beyond the Bridge | LX Factory, Belém and Trafaria in 360° | Portugal Vlog Ep04

Leaving downtown of Lisbon we find exciting sights, like the secret quarter of LX Factory, the historical Belém and Trafaria. Join me on this virtual trip and for the upcoming episodes, subscribe here:

============================

On the 24th of July Street, running by the riverside of Lisbon, we can take one of the special sightseeing trams or the classic, yellow tram line 15. Traveling towards the ocean shore, now we’re getting further from the downtown to the 25th of April Bridge and Belém district.

Getting through a secret doorway, we find ourselves in the middle of the Sunday market of LX Factory, and continue our trip to the historical Belém.

Check out the Monastery of Jerónimos in Belém, the Monument of Discoveries and the Tower of Belém in 360°! Then let's jump to the other side of the river, and walk with me in Trafaria, before we take a ferry to another station, called Cacilhas....

Cool beaches in and around Lisbon

Lisbon is one of the very few European capitals with many pleasants beaches by the sea easily accessibles in public transport.

Lisbon is located at the Tage’s mouth, the water mass in front of the city isn’t the sea, but a river - although it is also called “ straw sea”, the ocean is further West and the beaches also.

Some beaches offer straw huts, bars and restaurants, sometimes kids’ playgrounds, beach volleyball or Beach football courts. You can also find boards’ rentals there. Beaches are usually clean, the water is invariably cool.

Here are some of the nice beaches around Lisbon.

In the South.

What about taking a boat before joining the beach? Go to the River stop in Belem. 25 minutes by ferry and 1.25 euros later, you are in Trafaria. A small town, a small beach and its fishermen small boats few kilometres from the centre of Lisbon, which could also be 300 kilometres from here in Algarve.

15-20 minutes’ walk later, you are in a big and beautiful beach across the ocean: Praia de São João. Some bars open during the season and this is one of the best places to enjoy a sunset.

In the West.

This is one of the longest beaches in Lisbon, nearly a kilometre 300 of fine sand. The ideal meeting point for sports lovers with equipment to play beach volleyball or beach football, with surf schools to more easily compare Portugal with California. The promenade is punctuated with many bars, cafes and restaurants. It is busy and chilled. 40 minutes’ away from the centre of Lisbon.

Further west bypassing some options, we arrive in Cascais where 4 smaller beaches follow each other over a kilometre. Between beautiful posh houses and fortifications, the city reminds a bit of Brittany or Normandy.

Praia dos Pescadores or “the fisherman’s Beach” is the closest to the leisure port and the old town. Pleasant between the ancient fortifications and the sailboats.

Praia da Rainha has the air of a rocky creek. Smaller and more cut out, she gives a hindsight into the diversity of the Portuguese sea line.

Praia da Conceição is a big beach in Cascais, bordered with beautiful 19th century houses. By following the pedestrian path, you arrive to Estoril and Praia das Moitas.

Still in Cascais, you will find La Boca do Inferno, cliffs and an arch sculpted by the waves. Impressing how the ocean makes the man instantly humbler at high tide. It is very touristy but it is interesting in giving a foretaste of the wilder coast in the north of Cascais.

If you have the time and the curiosity (and incidentally a vehicle), don’t hesitate to go discover it. You will follow the coast for 10 kilometres before arriving to the beaches of Cresmina and Guincho in the shape of a moon crescent. Beautiful waves, a large beach and a landscape between dunes and rocks with Sintra Hills in the background. The beach is very appreciated by surfers and kite surfers.

Further north, the coast alternates between cut out cliffs and small creeks accessibles by car or by foot. It is superb, wild, regenerating and peaceful all at once.

LISSABON - COSTA DA CAPARICA - STRAND IN LISSABON - PORTUGAL URLAUB

#Lissabon #PORTUGAL #PORTUGALURLAUB
Lissabon - Costa da Caparica - Strand in Lissabon?

Also, lass uns in Lissabon treffen. Ich bin begeistert, dich hier zu treffen.
Dein Marc

► ANKUNFT COSTA DA CAPARICA

1.) FÄHRE VON CAIS DO SODRE NACH CACILHAS UND RETOUR
ttsl.pt/passageiros/horarios-de-ligacoes-fluviais/ligacao-cacilhas-cais-do-sodre/

BUS 135:
