Meteora (Kalabaka) – Trikala | Greece [4K]
Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six (of an original twenty four) monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. The rock formations have always been a site of worship for the ancient people of the area, however between the 13th and 14th century the twenty four monasteries were established atop the rocks. Meteora is located near the town of Kalabaka at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly, near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains. Meteora is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the name means lofty, elevated, and is etymologically related to meteor.

Theopetra (Θεόπετρα) – Trikala | Greece [4K]
Theopetra (Θεόπετρα) is located in Thessaly, Greece, on the north-east side of a limestone rock formation, 3 km. south of Meteora. The site has become increasingly important as human presence is attributed to all periods of the Middle and Upper Paleolithic, the Mesolithic, Neolithic and beyond, bridging the Pleistocene with the Holocene.
The formation of the limestone rock has been dated to the Upper Cretaceous period, 135–65 million years BP. The excavations began in 1987 under the direction of Ν. Kyparissi-Apostolika, which were meant to give some answers to the mystery of Paleolithic Thessaly. Radiocarbon evidence shows for human presence at least 50,000 years ago.
Theopetra Cave contains one of the longest archaeological sequences in Greece, comprising Middle and Upper Palaeolithic as well as Mesolithic and Neolithic cultural remains.The records have shown important palaeoenvironmental data based on sedimentary features and botanical remains.

The bridge of Paleokaria with its two artificial waterfalls stands there, in the valley of Portaikos in Thessaly, from the 16th century. The bridge of Paleokaria is a single arch in a rocky strait of the gorge of the same name to bridge the river Paleokaritis or a stream of Gropa, thus serving the communication between the areas: Pili, Paleokaria and Mesochora. Essentially, it was a busy route of that period, connecting Thessaly with Epirus.
