A gem among beautiful Tuscan towns is Lucca, birthplace of world famous opera composer Puccini. Uniquely, Italy completely surrounds two independent states and one of them is San Marino. Further south is one of the oldest, still inhabited cities in the world, Matera. Italy also has amazing islands and Sardinia is famous for some of the best beaches in Europe. But the biggest Mediterranean Island Sicily is also famous for its amazing Greek, Roman and Norman heritage. On the foothills of the Alps is another beautiful lake with some of the most romantic and picturesque sceneries in the world, Lake Como. Rolling Tuscan hills are home to a spectacular medieval skyline of San Gimignano. Siena is another Tuscan town, a true embodiment of a medieval city and Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. Viareggio, a seaside city in Tuscany, Italy, is known for its Carnival. La Cittadella is a complex housing the Carnival Museum, with small reproductions of the city’s allegorical floats.
The Villa Paolina Civic Museums include a museum of musical instruments and an archaeological museum. To the southeast, in the town of Torre del Lago, is Villa Puccini, a museum about the composer in his former lakeside residence.

Dove è vissuto Giacomo Puccini, Villa Orlando Torre del lago, Lucca Tuscany ???????? - drone 4k
IT: Villa Orlando si trova a Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio), affacciata sul lago di Massaciuccoli e poco distante dalla villa che fu di Giacomo Puccini. Le torri di villa Orlando sono oggi le uniche della località Torre, ma non sono esse ad averne dato il nome, anzi sono un omaggio all'antica torre che presidiava un tempo il lago, perduta molti anni prima.
Fu il commerciante livornese di origine alsaziana Piero Kotziana a commissionare una residenza di caccia a svago sul lago all'architetto fiorentino Patchò, che la realizzò in stile neogotico nel 1869.
Nel 1896 fu acquistata da Salvatore Orlando, i cui eredi ancora oggi la posseggono.
Danneggiata anche da bombardamenti, la villa e il suo parco furono restaurati nel dopoguerra.
La villa ha una forma pressoché cubica, movimentata all'esterno dalla scalinata per il piano nobile rialzato, da una terrazza verso il lago, e da una slanciata torretta panoramica. In onore forse delle origini liguri del committente, il tetto fu coperto in lastre di ardesia, anziché coi tipici tegoli in terracotta toscani.
All'interno gli ambienti sono spartiti secondo i rapporti del 3 e del 4, con una sala da pranzo neorinascimentale affrescata da Gugliemo Micheli con grottesche e riproduzioni di navi prodotte a Livorno per conto dell'Orlando. La biblioteca contiene anche l'archivio storico della famiglia Orlando.
Il grande parco che la circonda, facente parte dell'oasi naturalistica del Parco naturale di Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli, arriva fino alla strada e prosegue costeggiando il lago ben oltre il confine comunale di Viareggio, nel territorio amministrativamente di Vecchiano, per un totale di circa quattro ettari d'estensione. Organizzato su tre viali principali, contiene come essenze dominanti i platani, le palme, i cipressi e i roseti.
In corrispondenza del lago è presente una piccola darsena per l'attracco coperto delle barche, pure abbellita da una torretta.

In corrispondenza dell'accesso sul viale Puccini esisteva un'articolata portineria neogotica, arricchita da un arco a tutto sesto, una torretta e un muro merlato racchiuso tra due torrette laterali. Questo complesso fu minato nel 1944 dai tedeschi in ritirata, dove avevano installato un cannone antiaereo.
EN: Villa Orlando is located in Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio), overlooking Lake Massaciuccoli and not far from the villa that belonged to Giacomo Puccini. The towers of Villa Orlando are today the only ones in the Torre locality, but they are not the ones to have given their name, rather they are a tribute to the ancient tower that once guarded the lake, lost many years earlier.
It was the Livorno-born merchant of Alsatian origin Piero Kotziana who commissioned a hunting lodge on the lake to the Florentine architect Patchò, who built it in neo-Gothic style in 1869.
In 1896 it was bought by Salvatore Orlando, whose heirs still own it today.
The villa has an almost cubic shape, moved on the outside by the staircase to the raised noble floor, by a terrace facing the lake, and by a slender panoramic tower. Perhaps in honor of the client's Ligurian origins, the roof was covered with slate slabs, rather than with the typical Tuscan terracotta tiles.
Inside, the rooms are divided according to the ratios of 3 and 4, with a neo-Renaissance dining room frescoed by Gugliemo Micheli with grotesques and reproductions of ships produced in Livorno on behalf of Orlando. The library also contains the historical archive of the Orlando family.
The large park that surrounds it, part of the naturalistic oasis of the Natural Park of Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli, reaches the road and continues along the lake well beyond the municipal border of Viareggio, in the administrative territory of Vecchiano, for a total of approximately four hectares of extension. Organized on three main avenues, it contains plane trees, palm trees, cypresses and rose gardens as dominant essences.
At the lake there is a small dock for the covered mooring of boats, also embellished by a turret.

At the entrance to Viale Puccini there was an articulated neo-Gothic porter's lodge, enriched by a round arch, a turret and a crenellated wall enclosed between two side turrets. This complex was mined in 1944 by the retreating Germans, where they had installed an anti-aircraft gun.
