Morotai Island is an island in the Halmahera group of eastern Indonesia's Maluku Islands. It is one of Indonesia's northernmost islands. Morotai is a rugged, forested island lying to the north of Halmahera.

Nach ein paar Tagen Entspannung im Kupa Kupa Beach Resort erwartet uns mit dem Aufstieg auf den Dukono Vulkans das bisher größte Abenteuer unserer Weltreise. Die Wetterbedingungen machen den Hike noch schwerer als ursprünglich gedacht, doch nach endlosem Dauerregen und noch mehr Schwefel in der Lunge stehen wir auf dem Kraterrand und sind absolut überwältigt! Kein Tourist weit und breit - nur wir, unser Guide Alex und ein unfassbarer Ausblick auf den Dukono und andere Vulkane in der Umgebung, die regelmäßig vor unseren Augen ausbrechen. Indonesia -- Ternate Island Tour
Located in eastern Indonesia's North Maluku province, nestled on the west side of the large island of Halmehara is Ternate Island. Ternate is a small island, but has a large and important place in Indonesia's history dating back to the 1500's when Portuguese traders came here to the Spice Islands to establish a strong hold to monopolize the Spice trade. Our tour takes us around the island to visit several Portuguese forts, nutmeg and clove forests, including the oldest known clove tree (nearly 400 yrs old), 2 natural lakes, 2 beaches (1 deserted, 1 a favorite of school holiday visitors), and the torturous Burned Rocks area, which is a constant reminder that the island is dominated by the towering volcano, Gama Lama which can be seen from every side as you tour the island.
Thank you to the directors of the English schools, Ahmad Mahifa (Mr Bla Bla), from the L-PIA and Mr. Rusdi Karim and Mr.Samin Hamudu from the English Training Center for making our island tour possible by providing transportation, meals, and all the great student guides. Special thanks to Azzis, Samin, Jasmal, and Rusdi, with whom we became great friends...our gratitude for filling our stay with activities, unique experiences, opportunities to taste great Indonesian food, and for your personal assistance, (and for The Ladder ...LOL!). Indonesia - Glimpses of Tobelo scuba diving
Scuba Diving in the waters around Tobelo on N. Halmahera region of Halmahera Island in Indonesia is spectacularly beautiful with great visibility, dramatic walls, and incredibly colorful and diverse marine life. Do 5 dives with us in this clip: a sea mount, a beach dive in front of the Govt. Tourism dive center at Kakara island, 2 dramatic walls, and the unique dive at the UW volcano where you can see and feel warm water gushing out of the mini-calderas and see how the sea life has adapted and thrives here.
For the moment, diving is arranged for certified divers through the govt. tourism office, but a private dive center, Karianga, with a Certified Instructor is in the development stage at this time, by owner, Jono Gaza, who is working in cooperation with the tourism office.

Indonesia - Another glimpse at Tobelo
This was our second visit, thus “another” glimpse, at the town of Tobelo and surrounds. We found our friend, Yus, at Tourism, again. He helped organize for us a dive tour off 2 of the nearby islets and another tour with a walk to beautiful Sapoli twin waterfalls, and a delicious picnic lunch at water’s edge. Later that day, we also drove to an overlook to see Lake Duma-Galeta, one of many freshwater lakes on Halmahera Island. Thanks to Yus, we were invited to the opening ceremony and VIP dinner given by the Regent, for the Festival of Gemstones, a week-long fair featuring the semi-precious gemstones found around Halmehara Island.
We would like to thank the Regent of North Halmehara for inviting us to the dinner, and especially to Yus, who organized the tours and helped us with translations and other services during our visit. Filmed in September 2014.

Nachdem wir den aktiven Vulkan Dukono auf Halmahera bestiegen haben, mieten wir uns einen Roller und erkunden die Insel. Mit dabei sind traumhafte Sandstrände, grüne Landschaften, eine bunte Unterwasserwelt und die freundlichsten Locals. Nicht mit dabei sind Touristen - denn während unseres kompletten Aufenthaltes haben wir keinen einzigen anderen Backpacker getroffen :) Wenn Halmahera kein Geheimtipp ist, dann weiß ich auch nicht mehr weiter!

[CATAT] RUTE PENERBANGAN KE HALMAHERA UTARA | Naik Pesawat Jakarta-Kuabang lintas 3 zona waktu
Banyak yang salah mengira kalau dari Jakarta ke Maluku Utara itu paling cepat lewat Ambon atau Ternate. Ternyata bukan. Rute paling cepatnya adalah lewat penerbangan Jakarta-Manado-Kao.
Ada penerbangan langsung dari Jakarta ke Manado. Selanjutnya kita bisa naik ATR menuju Kao, Halmahera Utara.
Bandara Kuabang Kao menjadi salah satu gerbang Halmahera Utara jalur udara. Meski saat ini baru melayani perjalanan rute Kuabang-Manado dan sebaliknya, tapi kita bisa melihat akses transportasi memudahkan kita melakukan perjalanan. Nanti akan mengiringi pertumbuhan ekonomi, kenaikan taraf pendidikan, dan peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Senang rasanya transportasi kita dapat menjangkau pulau-pulau kecil di Indonesia.
