Best spots on Thakhek Loop in Laos ???????? #shorts
We did the Thakhek loop in 4 days / 3 nights and it was really amazing! ✨
⭐️ The landscapes along the route are beautiful and change a lot. Here is a small list of our favorite places on this loop:
First stop at Tham Nong Pa Fa, a small hut on the edge of a magnificent lake with locals fishing. We stayed 15 minutes watching them ☺️
Followed by the Xieng Liap Cave which we crossed on foot for a little adventure.
We then rode directly to our accommodation for the evening at Phosy garden Bungalow and admire the sunset over the lake with hundreds of dead trees in the water (it looks creepy but it's really cool !) ????
The next day we left for the Konglor cave: we made a first stop at the Dragon cave ????
Little cold spring bath to cool off: the spot is impressive, the water is so clear ????
We then drove straight to reach our guesthouse at Konglor cave before nightfall.
The next morning at 9 am, we left for a 3 hour visit to the cave by electric motor boat, it was super quiet ????
We then took the road on our return to do the same route but in the opposite direction because the rest of the loop is of no interest and is borderline dangerous.
We had lunch at the restaurat of the dragon cave, a very nice little place ???? We continued on the road to enjoy the sunset over the lake again. This time we slept in the bedroom part of Phosy garden and not in the bungalows: the first night was very cold it was 6 degrees ???? So we had the luxury of sleeping in a room for 4€ more.
We finished the loop the next day by stopping at the Tham Nang Aen Cave which had no great interest except for being lit with LEDs.

Overlooking the Mekong River in Central Laos Thakhek is a former French Colonial town with it’s current claim to fame being the Thakhek Moto Loop. For the adventurous traveler looking for something different it just might be one of the best places in Laos. It’s not about the laid-back island vibe of Don Det further South or the temples of Luang Prabang or the party spirit of Vang Vieng. Here it’s about the Laos Caves and the motorbike adventure to explore them.
A band of karst (terrain with caves) that starts in Thakhek stretches through to Vietnam and on its Eastern end includes the largest cave in the world Hang Son Doong. That’s right, if you head East from Thakhek and kept going, you’d arrive at the largest cave in the world Hang Son Doong, as well as a host of other fantastic caves. The Caves, that’s what this area is best for. Some of the best caves in Southeast Asia and perhaps the world, and it all starts in Thakhek. To me, this region is one of the best places in Laos. It’s certainly one of the best places in Laos for an adventure.
