Nayarit, Mexico
The Huichol and Cora Indians founded Nayar, which is known today as Nayarit. The state is located along the Pacific coast in Mexico's western region. Many traditions of the pre-Hispanic people persist, as you'll see in the colorful crafts. Begin your tour by walking along the streets of cosmopolitan Tepic, the state capital, where museums, historic buildings and beautiful parks await you.
This state has various lagoons and beach areas. About 62 km (38 mi) northwest of the capital lies the port of San Blas, an awe-inspiring destination, and 59 km (37 mi) away is Mexcaltitan Island, a magical place with abundant nature. As for the coastal destinations, there's Vallarta-Nayarit, on the Banderas Bay, a 1,440-km2 extension of fine-sand beaches and calm waters. This is an ideal spot to enjoy water sports and it's only 10 minutes north of the Puerto VallartaInternational Airport. If you head southwest from the capital, you'll hit the coast of Punta Mita and ecological reserve Marietas Islands, which is an important refuge for the humpback whale from November through April and has thousand of sea birds. There you can also go scuba diving, snorkeling and camping. In addition, this area hosts two important sporting events that you won't want to miss: the BanderasBay International Regatta and the World Champion Challenger fishing tournament. If you choose to continue exploring the beach destinations and are looking for a place with excellent tourism facilities, visit the Rincon de Guayabitos, a 3-km (2-mi) stretch of beach with excellent swimming conditions. The beaches, small islands and coral formations in this state make it an unbeatable place to spend your vacation.

La Riviera Nayarit, en México, son playas salvajes, naturaleza silvestre, pueblos con encanto y hoteles de ultralujo que conforman un destino que se conoce ya como el tesoro del Pacífico mexicano. Tepic, capital de Riviera Nayarit, es una ciudad llena de vida en sus plazas y mercado. Desde aquí se realizan excursiones interesantes que llevan a la preciosa laguna de Santa María del Oro, de origen volcánico, y las cascadas de Real de Acuitapilco.
Otra de las localidades más emblemáticas de Riviera Nayarit es San Blas y uno de los lugares más icónicos es el Muelle de Mantanchén. En San Blas se visita su plaza, el mercado y sus alrededores. También es muy recomendable subir al Cerro Basilio donde está el Fuerte de la Contaduría, un emblema de la valentía y el orgullo mexicano de los samblaseños que lucharon por la independencia del país. Antes de llegar a la Contaduría se encuentran las ruinas de la iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario “La Marinera”, que acompañaban a los marinos que provenían de Cádiz. Una de las excursiones que merece hacer en San Blas es el Parque Nacional de la Tovara, una de las zonas de manglares más importantes de México. En San Blas se puede descubrir la gastronomía de Riviera Nayarit de la mano de la chef Betty Vázquez, jueza de Masterchef México, que regenta el restaurante Delfín by Betty Vázquez en el Hotel Garza Canela.
En Riviera Nayarit hay una gran oferta de alojamientos enfocados al turismo familiar siendo Nuevo Vallarta una de las localidades más turísticas. Desde aquí se realizan varias excursiones como la que lleva a las Islas Marietas, declaradas Parque Nacional, donde está la impresionante Playa Escondida a la que solo pueden acceder 117 personas varios días por semana. También muy cerca de Nuevo Vallarta, concretamente en Mezcales, se encuentra Planeta Cacao donde se conoce la historia y se realizan actividades en torno a este producto. Por último, el precioso pueblo de Sayulita es conocido por los amantes del surf, por el colorido de sus calles y porque es el lugar perfecto para comprar artesanía de los nativos huichol.
