Drone Chile
Temuco es una ciudad y comuna de Chile, capital de la Provincia de Cautín y la Región de La Araucanía. Fue fundada como fuerte en 1881 por Manuel Recabarren debido principalmente a su ubicación estratégica en el valle central de la Región de La Araucanía. La ciudad se encuentra ubicada a 619 y 675 kilómetros al sur de Santiago, capital de la República, en linea recta y en ruta respectivamente.
En su radio urbano, cuenta con uno de los espacios naturales protegidos más emblemáticos de la región, el Monumento Natural Cerro Ñielol, ubicado a diez cuadras de la Plaza de Armas, donde se pueden apreciar vestigios de los bosques originales del valle central de La Araucanía.
El nombre de la ciudad procede de Temuko, que es un término en mapudungun que significa agua de Temu. Temu, es el nombre común mapuche de dos especies arbóreas de la familia de las mirtáceas, nativos de Chile, Luma apiculata (Arrayán) y Blepharocalyx cruckschanksii. Ambas especies se caracterizan por su corteza rojiza anaranjada en su estado adulto y por presentar frutos y hojas aromáticas comúnmente utilizadas en la medicina tradicional mapuche. Mientras Blepharocalyx cruckshanksii se encuentra en peligro de extinción, Luma apiculata es relativamente común y, en Temuco, se puede observar tanto en el Monumento Natural Cerro Ñielol en su estado natural así como también de forma ornamental en parques, jardines y veredas de la ciudad.
Como parte de la campaña de sometimiento a la soberanía chilena del territorio mapuche que hasta ese momento se mantenía independiente, conocida en el país como Pacificación de la Araucanía, a partir de mediados del siglo XIX se inició un proceso de construcción de guarniciones militares, alianzas con algunos caciques y acciones armadas contra otros.

En este contexto, el Fuerte Recabarren o Fuerte Temuco fue fundado cerca del final del conflicto, el 24 de febrero de 1881, por orden del Ministro Manuel Recabarren, conformado por el Ejército de Chile e inmigrantes de diversas nacionalidades, y asimismo poblado por los mapuches
En sus inicios tuvo las características de un campamento militar (Fuerte Recabarren), pues era asediado por los mapuches, quienes hostigaban a los ocupantes mediante malones, incursiones rápidas de ataque y saqueo, que incluían el rapto de mujeres y el robo de ganado.6
En noviembre de 1883 tuvo lugar el último ataque mapuche al fuerte de Temuco, en el que los mapuches intentaron una emboscada y fueron derrotados. Luego muchos de los heridos fueron asesinados en los alrededores por soldados que salieron a rematarlos. El fortalecimiento urbano significó la instalación definitiva de los chilenos en la zona y la conexión de la Zona Central tradicional con la población existente más al sur, particularmente Valdivia y Osorno.
Poco tiempo después, el 15 de abril de 1888, ya se elegía a las autoridades que conformaron la primera Municipalidad, donde figuraba como alcalde José del Rosario Muñoz. El rápido crecimiento poblacional de Temuco ya se apreciaba en los primeros años. En 1895, un censo establecía una población de 7.708 personas y, al crearse la Provincia de Cautín, cuando Temuco se convirtió en capital, esta cifra aumentó hasta los 16.037 habitantes uber temuco

Temuco (Spanish pronunciation: [teˈmuko]) is a city and commune, capital of the Cautín Province and of the Araucanía Region in southern Chile. The city is located 670 kilometres (416 miles) south of Santiago. The city grew out from a fort of the same name established in 1881 during Chile's invasion of Araucanía.[4] Temuco lies in the middle of the historic Araucanía, a traditional land of the indigenous Mapuche.
Temuco's central place in Araucanía with easy access to the Andean valleys, lakes and coastal areas makes it a hub for tourism, agricultural, livestock and forestry operations as well as a communication and trade centre for the numerous small towns of Araucanía. Temuco has recently been regarded as a university city as it houses two large universities: University of the Frontier and Temuco Catholic University. Nobel laureates Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda both lived in Temuco for some time.
emuco is a city in central Chile, south of Santiago. Its grand, central square, Plaza Aníbal Pinto, is adorned with imported palm trees. Nearby is the Regional Museum of Araucania, a colonial building housing traditional Mapuche costumes and decorative objects, plus archaeological artifacts like funerary urns.
